New Sonic game rumored to be unviled in February for almost every platform

I don't really get why Iizuka would be surprised that people actually wanted SA3 if they were already working on it...

Maybe they changed the name of an entirely different game to SA3? In any case the story won't be serious the way SA2's was. Sega's made it clear that they want to keep the franchise lighthearted and simple nowadays.

You read my post did you not? Wanting a game to feature something to spite others is childish. If you disagree or want to discuss it further you can PM me.

Clearly he was making a super dead serious suggestion. He obviously has utter contempt for fans who dislike boost and wants to see them suffer in any way he can.

He is clearly not kidding around or anything like that at all. Nope.

Man, I just want another good Sonic game. If they do that with boost cool, if they do it without, sweet.

But they better do it with some not shitty bosses :|

I think if theres one thing that should always been taken seriously, its Sonic the Hedgehog discussions.
Even the comics endorse this rule!

Beef hates boost?
I thought we were still talking about chao.

I kind of hope they keep the writers around. I prefer this over the super srs narrative the SA/Sonic 2006 had. Even something like Unleashed or Night of the Werehog would be acceptable.

Let's assume for a moment that RubyEclipse is in Texas for business, not pleasure.

I've seen some people jump to the conclusion that it's Retro, but there's a lot of game developers in Austin.

Battlecry Studios
Bluepoint Games (ex-Retro)
Gamesalad
Ghostfire Games
Junction Point (salient...)
Portalarium
Renegade Kid
Retro Studios (nice, but unlikely)
Roxor Games
Spacetime Studios
Stray Bullet Games
Twisted Pixel (hmmm...)

Unless he provides more clues there's literally no way to know exactly what is happening in the Lone Star State right now. :p

How well did the last few sonic games sell?

Generations broke a million last I checked, and was the most pre-ordered Sonic game in history. The series and it's spin-offs sells well enough to be one of the few big budget series that keeps Sega afloat these days and Sonic games have a good tendency to chart in the UK (All-Stars Racing Transformed is still in the charts since November), but these days I don't think that's something worth boasting about that much.

Generations was reported at 1.85m in May 2012.
Colors was reported at 2.18m in May 2011.

As far as I can tell both games were never mentioned again in fiscal reports.

There's not too much data available for Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed, but I guess we'll get the usual information in May. Didn't exactly impress either though.

Which is crazy considering Colors was Wii Only. You'd think they'd continue moving in that direction.

Skipping a Wii SKU of Generations was completely bonkers on Sega's part, imo. They should have had Dimps develop that instead of the 3DS version. It's not like it would have had much competition.

They should of let the people that made Colors work on the Wii version... I wonder what they've been working on?

IIRC the Colours and Unleashed teams merged to make Generations; it's unkown if they split back apart afterwards.

Oh weird.. so I assume the merge happened in middle of the development of the game seeing as how both Colors and Generations were in development at the same time at some point?

iirc Generations was slated to have a Wii version, but it became drastically different in development and at some point Sega decided to just turn it into a new game entirely, which became Colors.

I also want an original Advance/Rush successor on 3DS, or an original 3D Sonic for 3DS, I don't want scaled down companions, I want a true 3DS Sonic game.

Rumor, likely based on the games sharing badniks, almost certainly false.

Fuck boost gameplay

What would your reaction be if it was a direct sequel to 2006?

Also agreeing with Hitler Christ the Dinosaur here; this is probably going to be an unrelated thing with SA3's name for marketing reasons. Given that Heroes, '06 and Unleashed were all at various stages of development supposed to be Sonic Adventure 3 doesn't really make me mind though, especially since I don't even feel the first two Adventure have aged well at all.

Going off Colors and Generations I'm still expecting this game to at least be 'good', so that's something.

I heard that got debunked?
Probably, I don't know where I heard that from and I can't find anything on google.

An actually 3D handheld Sonic (as in XYZ plane) would be pretty sweet if it was designed competently. I feel like 3DS could handle it.

Doesn't really make sense since something that happens at the end of Colors plays a huge part in Generations.

Yeah... let's get Sonic 06 again to please the crazy guys who liked that game.

That's a strawman. Moving away from boosting does not mean going back to Sonic 06 shit. Colors and Generations had less boosting than Unleashed and they were much better. The problem with boosting sections is that you don't do much during them. Classic Sonic was pretty awesome in Generations. Could give him some 3D levels.

Moving away from boost is pretty much going to the shitty style in Adventure. And GOD, I hate Adventure, Heroes and specially 06.

I boosted pretty much everywhere in Generations. Colors had shitty platforming, because of that jump physic. So, yeah, I think Generations did 2D sections better than Colors.

Oh, and going back to classic is not what I want, even though I have grown playing that games, I prefer the modern style. It's how I always imagined Sonic as a kid.

I dislike those games, too, compared to the latest games, but it's not boosting that makes Generations and Colors better, it's the level design. Colors jumping was shitty, and a lot of the platforming was relegated to small levels that looked like they were made with a level creation kit.

Boost should still be in, but they should make it have an incredible risk/reward to it. Make it cost shitloads of rings and make enemies more prevalent. With the cost on rings really high, it also means you'll see a greater focus on boost as a quick tap of the x button to boost acceleration instead of holding it down. This also adds an aspect where you would have to find the best areas to hit boost in instead of just boosting the whole level.

Make boost only work in larger areas, where smaller more platforming/puzzle-based parts of a level would lock it down.
This is probably the best initiative when it comes to implementing boost.

I don't have much of an issue with homing attack anymore. Just as long as they don't throw springs and nonsense everywhere because it really slows down Sonic's momentum.

This discussion got a bit off quickly, but it's glad to see posts talking about open world Sonic as I never really gave it much thought. That would be pretty fun actually. I'd honestly take just about any Sonic styled game by Sonic Team, but I admit Adventure 3 is on a much higher priority then any other 3D Sonic for me personally as I love those games dearly.

It is a shame we won't have the same voice actors, but that's fine I suppose. I would like hubs again and the ability to play in whatever order you wanted instead of the more linear approach SA2 took. They most likely will stick to something similar to Sonic and Knuckles/Sonic Advance style where all the characters are similar but with differences, but I do admit there are so many ways they can improve on the treasure hunting and mech platforming.

I'd like some fanservice as well such as being able to play Chaos or Metal Sonic on the side somewhere later, an unlockable. 3D Chao Gardens go without saying, but online multiplayer and a way to upload your Chao and share them with others could make for a very addicting experience, and maybe they can make Chao Karate an actual little mini fighting game, or they could make it like a turnbased RPG or whichever like Pokemon. Segamon!

I like how Colors limited boosting. Instead of getting them from rings, you get them from regular wisp capsules, it discouraged the abuse of boosting.

I just hope they design levels with clever usage of the homing attack. It kind of gets stale when you're constantly doing the same ol' enemy bridges and springs stuff over and over.

That would be so much fun. I was disappointed SA2 HD didn't add online for that.

(did the Chao games have multiplayer anyways? I only tried out single player for that aspect)

If this is a new adventure game, I would like to see something similar to SA2 art direction wise.

Some really great stuff happened visually in that game.

That said, please do not take level design cues from SA2 because that wasn't hittin' on shit.

If they make Emerald Hunting again, PLEASE fix the broken radar from SA2. Being able to detect only one emerald (and in order) was absolutely terrible.
