New Xbox Series X consoles have slight internal redesign

GoldenEye98

posts news as their odd job
If you are going to be "accurate and honest" then that requires pointing out all the differences, that includes the fact that the Pro is a higher tier console than Xbox Series X. All things are not equal outside of the drive.

I am very aware the PS5 Pro has a different SoC. Everybody's aware hence the price difference. I am trying calculate that price difference accurately by equalizing what's possible to equalize. AKA "all other things equal"

In the most generous comparison with no disc drives(equalized) and storage equalized at 2TB you could say a 2TB Digital PS5 base would be $550 and the price difference is $150 with pro.

eh.....just creating false equivalencies at this point, but ok.

series S is 75 % of all xbox sales, so this one will be a niche console

It is baffling that they did not redesign the Series S to make it even smaller and less power hungry, while cutting the price slightly and maybe even stealth increasing the RAM by something like 1GB.

Microsoft could have released the Galaxy Black Special Edition Series X with the 6nm die shrink along with the full compliment 56CU GPU. It may have made it somewhat more attractive, especially if they clocked it up a little. That 1.825GHz GPU clock is very low. The PS5 GPU runs at 2.233GHz for comparison. There’s no reason a die shrunk Series X couldn’t hit similar or slightly higher clocks.

~8% extra CU and ~20% higher clocks would have given us >15.5 TFlops. All for literally no effort.

Such a wasted opportunity but that’s Microsoft for you…

Excellent point. You’re right, typical Microsoft with a wasted opportunity.

It's impressive, yeah. Imagine using a news thread about an internal redesign of a console that makes it use less power, to start screaming how poor it sells. Then imagine that the people doing that are most likely adults.

I imagine the consoles warriors are not older than 20, at most,

I don't even like Sony.

Okay. I'm sure you're in the minority here, though.

You'd be surprised. Unfortunately. I don't really care which console people prefer. Most like the PS5, which makes sense, given the much better selection of games available for it. Some like the Xbox, because of the controller, game pass and what not. All of this is understandable.

What I don't understand is what brings grown ass men to derail a thread like this and make it all about how many consoles Sony sells.

Just as impressive as adults who let what others think about a plastic box bother them that much.

Why do you assume I'm bothered about it? I honestly do not get bothered about random people on Neogaf. I even like my favorite stalker, demigod demigod , who goes to great lengths to hand me an emoji on all my posts.

Hence why it's hyperbole. No-one is disputing that Xbox Series sales have slowed.
Look who's being hyperbolic now.

Microsoft reported an over 40% collapse in hardware sales the last two quarters and obviously started hidding it. This quarter is bound for an over 50% fall. Last year hardware sales were awfully bad and this year they are absolutely catastrophic.

It’s a disaster, I’d be surprised if they managed to shift 4m units this year

And a vertical stand.
Assuming a person isn't joking about this, the "stand" argument is really stupid, to be honest.

PS5 or PS55 Pro doesn't need a stand. It works 100% fine with whatever comes out of the box.

If you want to stand it vertically - which is an optional thing - one can buy an optional accessory. Just like the Series consoles do not come with vertical/horizontal stands.

The PS5/Pro consoles work perfectly fine without a stand.

You brought it up when you could have ignored it. The fact that you’re still rambling on about it says it all. You’re continuing to derail the thread and I assume you are also a “grown ass man”.

If you read the thread it's not hard to answer this question. The thread is about a Series X board revision. Someone commented that they aren't sure why when they aren't selling the one they have. Someone else retorted that they are selling it and started acting like a baby posting comically fake Xbox numbers. There is a lot more talk about Xbox sales in here than PS5, but you shouldn't be surprised PS5 sales become a legitimate point in the conversation given their inverse relationship with Xbox sales.

Xbox sales rate is currently near the same rate Wii U needed to move the number it did in its lifespan, so to make a comment about sales with a console revision isn't exactly drive-by shit posting. Then Xbox stan showed up and blew the conversation open. Take your holier-than-thou attitude somewhere else.

Yes, I wonder what was so funny because the statement is correct.
I think it has to do with the fact that he said "across the board". The SoC in use is pretty efficient for the performance it provides but xbox's standby mode sucks for efficiency and is power hungry at 15watts, to the point where xbox did an update that forced them into shutdown instead so people don't use that mode (and don't get any of the benefits either). In comparison in Rest mode the PS5 used just 0.36watts to 1.3Watts with all features enabled .
When people had the default standby mode on xbox or enable it-it's pretty bad for the electricity bill. Like leaving 2 living room lights on 24/7. Xbox and PS also both suck for things like streaming video. They use around ~50watts, but streaming sticks (or the TV itself) uses a tenth of that at 5Watts.

Feel free to continue derailing threads with things that are completely irrelevant. Just makes you look bad.

Take care.

If someone said "what's the point of making a Wii U revision", you would have shown up and said "why are you derailing threads with irrelevant things"?

It would be an irrelevant thread derail for you to say that and yes, it does make you look bad. Thanks for the case study on the principle you're teaching us.

I never used the stand that comes with the console, I just put it vertically without it

The issue is that the PS5 did come with a vertical stand. A really nice one, at that. It also came with an optical drive integrated.

The console is exclusively marketed vertically. It’s clearly designed to be vertical, both aesthetically and for cooling purposes. It’s a “pro”, top of the line product that can’t be bothered to include even their current cheap version of the stand. It’s insulting, really.

After all this...The Series X galaxy black is sold out in the UK....

The series X has a stand built into it's design, because microsoft engineers clearly know how to design a product. ;)
