Strangely enough, on Amazon's UK site the old set is 20 pounds more expensive. You can't even see the new one on the first page of search results.

I didn't even know there was a new release. The old one was the one I was price watching. I'm guessing there's no difference between the two in terms of content?

Actually, considering Fox just re-released the complete set with new covers and such, I'd imagine the original blu-ray set will see some significant price cuts just to move it out of the warehouses.

Speaking of Fox, I wonder, when Disney takes over full distribution of I-VI*, if they, in an attempt at consistency, will replace the 20th Century Fox logo with whatever LFL logo will debut with VII. I know people who hate changes would also hate that change. This thought occurred to me as I was watching TPM last night and during the end credits, I saw a bit where it said "Released by 20th Century Fox". Seeing that, I thought to my self, I could see that at one point saying "Originally Released by 20th Century Fox" once Disney has 100% ownership of the home distribution of Star Wars. Would you be for or against Disney putting their mark over I-VI (both in the opening logos and ending credits)?

*Provided they ever acquire full ownership of IV.

You mean the Disney Castle with fireworks ?

Nah. They don't do it with MARVEL. Probably just the LFL logo and into the movie we go.

I know. I was saying they will probably make a new full length LucasFilm logo for VII and I was wondering if, once Disney can release I-VI on Blu-Ray if they will go back and scrub away the Fox logo and replace it with the LucasFilm logo for consistency. That would mean no more classic Fox fanfare in the movies that originally had them. If they did so, I could see a lot of people being upset.

This already exists it got previewed somewhere. Not sure if it has been on anything distributed yet though.

I know. But that has to be temporary. No major film logo and fanfare is that short. And the music is poorly edited (check out Bobby Roberts' much better alternate logos that he made). I anticipate a new fully fleshed out fanfare, hopefully scored by John Williams. Plus, the logo in the digital releases is still the old logo. Plus, they already have an all new CG logo that debuted with the trailers. One reason I think the new LucasFilm logo will have a new, fully fledged fanfare is the fact that Marvel got one when Disney fully took over production starting with Thor 2.

But back to my original point. I wonder if Disney will go back and replace the 20th Century Fox logo and fanfare in I-VI with the new LucasFilm logo and fanfare (provided they make one).

Including rereleases of I-VI? Would you be for/against them removing the Fox logo and fanfare completely from I-VI?
That current weird Lucasfilm with weird fanfare is already on the iTunes release of the films. A New Hope still has the Fox logo with the old sounding Fox fanfare that also covers an older Lucasfilm logo. Fox still has distribution in that film so it makes sense. The others though just have the Lucasfilm logo w/ weird new fanfare straight into "A long time ago..."

Fox own ANH forever so if Disney want to do a non special trilogy (which they will, lets face it they like money) a deal will have to be done so I can see the fox fanfares staying on all of them.

Edit apparently I'm wrong. Only ANH is keeping the fox fanfare.

Is there a difference between these two Blu Ray collections?

Apart from obvious cover.

I saw that the new release still has 9 discs. 6 for the movies and 3 for the bonus features. Looking at the design of the new box, it almost looks to me like this time each movie could have their own case within the main box (unlike the original Blu-Ray set). I suppose if I'm right, the set could have 7 cases total (six 1-disk cases for the movies and one 3-disc case for the special features).

I'm sure Disney could throw enough money Fox's way to change that.

Fox will want on on the money train that will be non special blurays. Without fox they can't do it as its pointless without ANH. It's a great hand in any negotiation.

Fox has distribution on all the existing films until 2020. Then Disney gets distribution rights for 1-3, 5 & 6. Fox keeps distribution on 4 forever, or until Disney makes them one hell of a deal.

To further clarify: In the event the original versions ever see release, they won't be contingent on any sort of agreement from Fox. Fox has no say over the content of the films they're distributing, nor do they own rights to any specific cut or version of Star Wars. They simply own the rights to distribute the films theatrically and on home video until 2020, and for Star Wars (1977) in perpetuity.

Huh, what's the explanation for there being no Fox logo on any of the films but A New Hope on the iTunes release in that case?

I wonder if it predates the Jedi/Sith order. He talks about finishing what Vader started, but Vader didn't start anything. Can't wait for more context.
Considering that this is canon since it appeared in The Clone Wars and bearly resembles the light saber we're used to, I'll go ahead and say Kylo's saber design doesn't predate the Jedi (and if my memory is correct the Sith are just a branched off group from the Jedi). Of course there are other orders of force users besides Jedi/Sith, and Ren could be one such order.

The iTunes version of A New Hope is a Fox release. Says so right there on the store page. The other movies are Disney. That's also why you can't get A New Hope on Disney Movies Anywhere.

Figured the sides were exhaust, but the ancient design detail is interesting. Still amusing to see so much hoopla over nothing.
People always speculated that the sides were exhaust but the close-ups in some of the more recent trailers and spots confirmed it for me even before I saw this. They behave more like flames than anything else.

Basically - somewhere along the line some sort of deal was made between Disney and Fox regarding releases - which is why there's a re-release of the blu-ray set, and a digital release at all. Nobody seems to know what the particulars of that deal are, though.

The whole situation is pretty confusing, and it's made even more confusing by a bunch of enthusiast press members adding inaccurate reporting into the mix.

Just a theory: dunno if we got any shots of Kylo Ren using force-esque moves outside of the forest shot, but maybe with the forest scene potentially being some kind of weird force hallucination / dream sequence thing, Rey's just imagining Ren to have the Force?

We saw him use the force in countless shots. Both with and without Rey. He is a force user.

Well to be honest, Anakin's goal was defeating death. It was the premise of the prequels and what led him to the darkside. He would become as strong as it took to defeat death.
Originally to save Padme, but he did have his own goal.
Hunting Jedi was not his goal, that was Palpatine's goal.
We know that. I don't think Kylo would. I imagine in the SW universe, people know Vader as the muscle for the Emperor, with the goal of hunting down the Jedi and either destroying him or convincing him to join the Dark Side

That's what Kylo is continuing IMO

No idea, but some gaffers were adamant that there was no way he could be force sensitive and that he was "faking" it (somehow).
Understandable, but all will be right when people realize Kylo Ren is actually Darth Maul possessed by Anakin Skywalker's evil ghost. No, no, not the ghost from the end of ROTJ, but the evil part of him that still lingers on....

Darth Bane was just the beginning.
