NFL Off-Season Thread 5 - Everybody Do The Flop

the only thing I have going for me in soccer is that I can move well

can't control the ball that great, can't make accurate passes/shots at long distance

I love one on one situations, both attacking and defending. Trying to get past somebody with moves (especially playing it through their legs) is great and taking the ball from somebody and crushing their dreams is equally entertaining.

I dont think they will, well maybe the up port. But I think we'll see several remakes and graphics upgrades to past games because they are relatively cheap and I think mostly give a good return on investment, that doesnt mean we dont be getting lots of good games; just look at last gen . As for his other points, how can someone hate on getting access to a game early? I mean sure if its a preorder bonus. Legit DLC that isnt already on the disc, how can you hate on new content of whatever game you liked Konka? Patches, if something is broken or can be bettered through a patch why hate on it Konka or would you rather have the game broken forever? One thing that really has annoyed me though from the past gen is say game X: Then stores Best Buy, Target, Gamespot, Amazon, Wal Mart all has like 2-3 things exclusive to them via preorder so you cant own the full package of the game. Even though the preorder bonuses are usually little shit like gold gun or extra costume doesnt make it less annoying. I dont think i'll ever understand Konkas brain.

Because I feel like the ability to patch a game is an excuse for not having the game as perfect as possible at release. Because back when I was buying N64 games I didn't have to think about whether I was preordering to get something good or whether something would be changed later or feel that I wasn't getting the full game experience if I didn't pony up some money for DLC.

With a console I want to pop in the completed game and play it. I don't want to have to download patches and updates before even getting to the start screen.

Like I said, it's just not for me anymore and that's okay.

Yea and 99% of those situations lead to a failure to score. I appreciate soccer, it was my only high school sport, but the it takes away from the great play when it most likely will just come to naught and be undone 30 seconds later.

I've never played a serious game to really know - it's always been random parks/backyard games with a few people and we just mess around

I'd probably end up running around a lot and being really annoying on defense

Confrontation wants me to change my avatar, but it fits me so well that I don't want to.

Still fantastic fun. I love playing it more than watching, need to get my conditioning up though and some more routine in my play. Too much loss of possession by bad passes and lack of control on the first touch, but that's all about practice.

Of course they weren't perfect, that's not the point, I think they would have had more issues if they developers knew they could patch it later to meet a deadline.

So wait til a game is patched to buy it if you're actually worried about it.

Pretty much. I don't buy many console games at launch anymore because they usually plummet in price (something N64 games never did, by the way) and by that time they have been patched and tend to run fairly well.

I understand the complaint about having to wait for a patch to download which can be kind of annoying but patches are a good thing overall. Also on modern consoles you can set the system to download patches and update games when you aren't even playing.

I haven't played them in 20 years but there were a few N64 games that seemed perfect at the time: WaveRace, StarFox 64, Mario 64 and Zelda 64.

I am sure they will look like something that was puked out of Florida if I played them today but that is how I remember those games. Especially StarFox 64. Until Kid Icarus I don't remember a better 3D shooter in the past 20 years.

Thats because you were 11 and we didnt realize all the issues with games back then could be fixed or better handled!

:lol

I was in college when those games came out.

I will say that I was a lot more forgiving of games when I was younger. The shit we put up with on the PS and N64...

Keep in mind that pre-online multiplayer a lot of bugs were looked at fondly as exploits for players in the know. You could just punch your friend sitting next to you if he cheesed you during a match. With online multiplayer it becomes more important to have continuous patches to keep the game in balance and prevent exploiters from ruining the experience.

Not really a bug but poor game design in goldeneye you could run from spawn to spawn once you memorized the pattern. That was easily solved by yanking your friends controller out of the socket. Can't do that in today's online games.

Goddamn you're fucking old! I was giving you the benefit of the doubt man. Yes we put up with a lot in the previous eras. Imagine if traditional gaming is around in another 20 years and we look back to this gen.

The only time I talk about civ v is to say it stinks!

Was responding to Kunka. Its like the 3rd time in as many days that he has needed to tell us that he isn't interested in games anymore.

I dont think i've ever really seen you talk about civ v

that was some cutting edge shit for consoles though

and I remember with the patches the game took up like 90% of the memory card

I just remember everyone sounding like assholes on their low bit-rate bundled Logitech microphones.

Memories.

My interest in gaming was dying up to when I bought the X One. Plants vs Zombies:Garden Warfaresucked me back in with its easy yet fun gameplay. I do find myself being more enticed by offline games now though. AC: Black Flag and Wolfenstein: the New Order are really good single player experiences. Had BF on WiiU and didn't realize how much I was missing out on with that version.

Oh and I got Shoot Many Robots for free on XBLA for the 360 and spent a decent amount of time with that as well. Brainless fun.

AC3 is still the worst game I've ever played, so I'm scared of the newer versions.

Wolfenstein is probably the best single player shooter I've played in years. Loved every minute of it.

I just love the naval battles in Black Flag. I tire of the main storylines endless escort/eavesdrop missions. When I do I just hit the open sea and attack every damn ship I see until I am ready to go back to the main storyline.

I've been really enjoyingAC: Black Flag. Doesn't really feel like a Assasins Creed game though, it's just a cool pirate game. Roaming the seas with your crew singing pirate songs is rad. I just love open world, single player games, I get too much into multiplayer to really enjoy it.

Also, I still remember buying Socom 1. Was probably way too young to play it, but it was fantastic. That first level on that boat. So good.

Greg, you're too young to be this jaded!

90's was the golden era.
haha, I don't get hyped like I used to for games, and it usually takes some weird game to suck me in these days

last few random games that I really loved... MotorStorm RC, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and War Thunder

That level made me quit the single player. Every time I threw a grenade that computer AI team mate "Boomer" would run and jump on it......

I played so much MotorStorm RC for some reason, that game is amazing. Chasing colored ghost trails for days...

I wrote like 800 words about in when it came out in the madden thread. Hate a lot of what Schafer did with it even though his foundation was some old grognardian war games. Bob told me a lot of my issues have been fixed but I've never gone back

You quit after the first level?!

Boomer was just saving your life man!!!

I was stuck in 11th (?) level for so fucking long, where you had to disarm the 3 nukes in Afghanistan.

Civ V is garbage. Play a mans game like Civ IV!

You hate everything and liked a garbage game like Risen so I hesitate to ask but what's wrong with Civ 5? I'm assuming because you're not poor and can use Steam sales like the rest of us that you've played it with all the new expansions also?

I couldn't proceed in the first level because Boomer kept "saving me" from my own grenade.

Just saw the Club Nintendo awards. Nintendo gives no fucks.

Looks great to me. All the physical items just remind me of that wacky guy from the gaming section who kept sending me Nintendo stuff, even after I asked him to stop numerous times.

What game should I pick? I racked up a ton of points with all the registering lately.

I have them but I've never played them. After I pit like 50 hours into it and realized it was kind of broke other better strategy games came out like the Fallen Enchantress expansions and EUIV and CK2 expansions.

Only problem I had is that the rewards should be upcoming games and not already released games.

I remember getting the poster set last year for Plat, and just throwing it away once it got to my house. The only nice thing I got from club nintendo is their 3ds 32 cartridge holder.

Civ 5 is fine, but its the kiddy pool of strat games with the Paradox games that eznark mentioned as being, plus all the space 4x games coming out.
