I hear the Ravens pass blocking hasn't been that good so far, what do you think Darien? I'm only going on what I've been reading on a Ravens message board that has constant game updates..

It doesn't look so good from what I've watched(I'm not paying total attention to the game). Boller has had to scramble a few times, and even on one play where he didn't scramble he had all sorts of pressure. Not horrible, but it could certainly be better.

You've heard correctly, it's been ok... not great... not horrendous, but it could definitely use(as usual) some more consistency.

AH HAHAHAHAHA

Stewart takes the field! Watch closely, Baltimore...this is your future once Boller goes down.

Archaix

I'm not talking badly about Boller, but he'll be hurt some time this year. And when that time comes, look back to this point when I warned you about Kordell. The Bears fans didn't believe me last year. Now look at them.

And I'm a Steelers guy. A steelers guy who hates Duce Staley, is incredibly uncomfortable with the offensive line situation, is downright scared that Plaxico and Hines are both unhappy with their contracts, and realistic about our secondary. Go ahead. Try and tell me something I don't know :p

So ATL's backup is a rookie? Isn't that a little dangerous when you have a QB with a league-wide bounty on his head? Just more wreckage along the Saints' road to the NFC South championship.

Nothing, not even a third round rookie QB, can be worse than Kurt Kittner. Nothing.

You gotta intercept a tipped ball like that... good job....TD! As much as I dislike Kordell for how badly he torched us just a short, short time ago I've always found it interesting how quickly Pitt fans turned on him...

EDIT:

WOO HOO!

EDIT 2:

Kordell... bad decision....

Quickly? From 97-2002 it was nothing but a rollercoaster ride, one with more downs than ups. Most people simply grew tired of it.

I never liked Kordell. We got to the AFC title games in spite of him, not because of him. If there were a better QB at the helm, they would have been super bowl trips, not AFC title games.

Saints? NFC South championship?

lol good point.

As for the NFC South, the Bucs are terrible, ATL perpetually one play away from ruining their season (Vick injury), and Carolina a 1 hit wonder that won a ton of close games. The Saints are the most talented team in the division, and this year they will finally play up to their potential with Haslett on the hot seat and Deuce in a contract year.

Can you pin it all on Kordell? For the MOST part his stats while floating a bit are generally consistent.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?statsId=3117

I've never pinned it all on Kordell. And plenty of times I've been accused of being a Kordell apologist on Steeler boards for pointing that out, which is laughable. But the reality is, when push came to shove, if you needed Kordell to come from behind in a playoff game, or needed one big throw from him to win a championship, he either threw a pick or tossed it short into the turf. Or, as we've just seen here, he fumbles it away. Give him a thundering defense, a rumbling running attack and a lead and he was ok.....but what QB wasn't under those conditions?

I'm glad you brought that page up. His wonderful pro bowl year that everybody whines about (Buh huh, how can you bench him! He went to the pro bowl uh huh) is only an 81 QB rating, 14 TDs with 11 ints(one of his best TD/INT ratios of his career, which is pathetic) and 3100 yards. It was a mediocre year at absolute best. And then look at the championship game, three interceptions thrown. Granted, their rushing attack was pathetic at best in the game also, but if Kordell throws even one less INT it could be a totally different outcome. That's not his style though. In a game of any importance whatsoever, he would fall apart.

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Agreed, he was always an average QB, who ran well but under pressure generally could be counted on to wilt.

BTW what's the new adjustment to the challenge rule, a upheld challenge gets you a new challenge, but you can only get 2 new challenges per game?

Archaix

Drunky McMurder
Jeesus christ, that's just about the worst call ever. He hardly even made it on the other side of the white line! God damn.

And, no, the rule is if you get both challenges right you get a third. (As just explained before I hit enter)

edit: Joe Thiesman has clearly taken too many hits. He has no recollection of the music city miracle play, doesn't remember that it was a kick return, doesn't remember that it was Buffalo who challenged and not Tennessee(There was no penalty called, and I don't believe that replay rules would allow it to be overturned if it was originally ruled a forward pass), he really should have given up on that thought when it came to him.

edit 2: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE OFFICIALS

Archaix

Drunky McMurder
Sweet zombie jesus, the announcers and officials are even more out of game-shape than the players are. This is pathetic. Granted, the ESPN announcers aren't the best to begin with(And Pat's brand new liver probably doesn't allow for him to drink like he did with John), but this is really painful.

No challenging that one.... excessive celebration?!?!?! WTF..... One person jumping in another persons' arms is excessive you have GOT to be kidding me....

Archaix

Drunky McMurder
So who wants to break the news to Bish that he missed out on a soaking wet Suzy Kolber?

As far as the excessive celebration, it was probably because he spiked it in the face of a Falcon defender. Which would be pretty hard to avoid, seeing as though five of them watched him catch the ball.

And that wasn't even the year that I thought was his best. I was always more impressed with his play in 97, being his first year as a starter....until, of course, he imploded against Denver in the championship game. He really never was the same after that game. Or maybe it took 17 games for his fatal flaws to show through.....in any event, I think it was a turning point.

As for this excessive celebration......I dunno, the league is too stuffy with this stuff. I don't mind them trying to cut out the use of props and things like that, but yeesh, at least let the guys be happy in the endzone.

Archaix

Drunky McMurder
Apparently you can't advance a muffed punt(News to me)

Here's my problem, though. He jumped for the ball when he clearly shouldn't have. I say fuck it, give them the touchdown because he was stupid enough to dive for it :p

OMG we finally won a challenge.

Wasn't it originally ruled as Baltimore's ball?

I thought they were challenging that he should have had the TD. I don't know.

These officials are simply pathetic tonight.

edit: It's happened! It took almost the entire game, but Pat Summerall has finally begun to sound like his voice in the PSX-era Madden football games. This is why you watch preseason football until the fourth quarter, fans.

Panthers went 4 and 0 in pre-season last year basically on the depth of their defense (and Jake Delhomme playing in the second half). Depth is very key, it allowed us to lose an all-pro linebacker to cancer and make the Super Bowl.

"I was mad, I was upset," Vick said. "They blitzed me knowing I wasn't going to run. They can do what they want in preseason. I'll see them again one day."

Oh stop your whining. You might see us again one day... but it won't be this season....lucky you.

I've been thinking about this today, and I believe Mike Vick is going to be the next great player to lose his career to injury. His coach (and he himself) was too afraid to actually have him do anything last night. They knew going in that he was only going to play one series, and then the first two plays of that series were hand offs, then the third a screen. He said during the game that he wasn't allowed to run.

He's not going to be ready if he doesn't play in the preseason. He's on his way to being Ken Griffey Jr of the NFL.

Also, the Browns winning the AFC north? Can I buy some pot off of you?

Everybody just needs to calm down. It was the first pre-season game. He will get more and more playing time in each preseason game leading up to the season opener.

Yes, it was the first preseason game and they didn't have him to a damned thing. They didn't even have him TRY to advance the ball. By the third preseason game, he'll play one series again. Maybe he'll play half a quarter in the second game.

And then by week 2 of the regular season, his leg will fall off after not having been used.

Vick has great talent, but everybody being too scared to get him hurt will end up getting him hurt.

I may as well give my preseason picks.

AFC (seeds in order)

Wild Card

NFC: (for the record, I'm not entirely confident in a single pick from the NFC)

phi.gif

(Yeah, I said it! I'm incredibly wrong, but I'm going out on a limb here, give me some credit)

Wild Card:

car.gif
min.gif

And I'll go one further! Player awards for the 2003 season!

MVP:
s4261.jpg
Ahman Green GB RB (Tough choice, pretty much guessing here. RB don't get it often, but here's the thing: Brett Favre goes down by an injury...I sure am going out on a limb a lot here, aren't I? ....and Ahman keeps them alive for the last few games of the season)

Offensive Player of the Year:
s5452.jpg
LaDainian Tomlinson SD RB (Sure, he's going to be on a shitty team, but he doesn't even have David Boston this year...he's going to put up sickening numbers)

Defensive Player of the Year:
s5910.jpg
Ed Reed BAL S (Okay, Okay, so I'm just trying to not give it to Ray Lewis...but Reed and Roy Williams are going to be known as two incredible safeties by the end of this year and Reed takes it because he's on a better defense)

Speaking of great young safeties...

Defensive Rookie of the Year:

badman.gif
....Okay, ESPN doesn't have a picture of him up yet on his player page. Sean Taylor WAS S (I'm not hopping on the bandwagon, I'd have put him second in the draft. Then again, rumors have it that many teams had him number 1 overall, one of the 7 or 8 different players at the top of different boards. )

Offensive Rookie of the Year:
Hell, I don't know. It was Anquan fucking Boldin last year. Hell, give it to Robert Gallery. It doesn't matter who I predict, somebody else will perform better and unexpectedly.
