NFL Preseason Thread!

this defense if just awful..I was hoping KC torched us cuz they're good...but the panthers aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut and they're killing us...it's gonna be a long season

Is it just old news that there is an offensive lineman on the Panthers named after King Tut? The fact that this man exists (And has a last name which means "Kings" in spanish, too) turns my world upside down. There should be more uproar directed towards this poor bastard's parents!

Nothing like facing the defending conference champions to knock people off of their high expectations. I try not to put much into preseason team performance, but the Giants really looked badly.

On the plus side, Eli will surely get a whole lot of time to practice his skills for next season.

I do think that the Giants will improve their record this season. The new defensive front might just work, and they have two capable QBs, which is good for when one of them gets the inevitable concussion because the pass protection is horrible. Coughlin is a good coach... I like the discipline he brings to the team and think that he'll fill the obvious needs (OL, fullback/3DRB) in coming years.

In a couple of years they might even get a wild card spot and play the Redskins in the playoffs! :)

...Tutankhamen Reyes? You've got to be fucking kidding me.

lol, good 'ol Tutan played at Ole Miss and I never knew he was named after King Tut. Todd Wade (former Dolphin, current Texan) was our other tackle in '99 and Deuce McCallister was the back, we were a great running team. Of course we had white true freshmen playing WR and we went 7-4 as usual.

Eli looked great again, even with that pass rush. I know the Panthers have the best DL in the league, but damn. His quick release will really be put to the test. Believe me though Giant fans, he knows how to take a hit. He absorbed one of the hardest licks I've ever seen when he was a sophomore against Alabama and threw 2 TDs in the 4th quarter for a comeback victory. The new FB, Stackhouse, also played at OM and excels at picking up the blitz. When Eli played, the primary duty of our backs was to block on pass plays. Running with the ball was a distant second.

Impressed with the Panther fans. I remember watching them play the Saints late in their 1-15 abortion of a season and there may have been 20k people there. Maybe. Now they're selling out preseason games and actually cheering.

I don't know what's going through coach Coughlin's mind but to me it looks like Eli deserves to get the starting nod very early in the season. Watching him out there reading the defense and audibling at the line gave me a sense that I was watching his brother Peyton at work. It almost seems like the coaching staff should have given him some more throwing opportunities as the running game seemed ineffective against the Carolina defense, while Manning was delivering precise short strikes.

Warner didn't look so hot, scrambling around inside the pocket and rolling out often to avoid the pass rush. Now Carolina has a deep and talented defense and the Giants protection leaves a lot to be desired but Kurt was looking much more like his shell-shocked self than his MVP form.

At this point I think the Giants should have Warner open the season in Philly and against the 'skins in the first 2 weeks to give him his token "audition" and then seriously consider giving Manning the chance to start at home in week 3 against the Browns. Short of Warner playing phenomenally in the first 2 games it doesn't look like the Giants are going to come together in time. The defense is already banged-up (all 3 starting linebackers were out) and it looks like they need more time to get a grasp of Lewis' system. It seems like getting Manning experience with the speed of the NFL and in tune with his recievers should be the Giant's priority in the first half of the season.

Just thought I'd post Delhomme's statline cause he was TEARING shit up in just one half :P

J. Delhomme
Code:
CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT RAT
 11 13 144 84.6 11.1 1 0 138.5

"lalalalalalalala I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUUUU"

I'd like to take this time to:

1. Thank Chris McAllister for holding out....
2. Thank the coverage for not seeing an obvious pass play to TO.
3. Boller for reverting back to underfuckin throwing everybody.

Let me correct myself before someone else does. Baxter (#2) got burned that play. You're right about his underthrowing.. They ran a 5 yard pass play and he barely got it there :(

Man, another injured Eagle..

Hah, what the fuck is the Eagles conditioning program?

Alright, guys...let's get back into game shape. Time to play ESPN 2k5! Look, that's your teamate on the cover!

Every Eagle is just going to give up running from now on. That's at least the second non-contact knee injury this preseason to an iggle.

...I am disgusted, absolutely disgusted... all we've heard during training camp here in Baltimore is how much Boller has improved, his decision-making his accuracy... bullshit he looks just as f'n bad as he did last @%$%$@ season.

Whoo! Between Boller and Palmer, the door might actually be open for a 7-9 division win for the Steelers! I'm excited about the season again!

Boller's throws look too soft so far

Nice to see a 30+ yard pass, especially with a PA

Frightful is still a joke returning kicks. Get Deion in there :D

Hah, way to play Ravens. Kevin "I can't believe Archaix actually drafted me" Johnson runs a one yard route too short and then they get a run stuffed on fourth. That's the Baltimore I want to see this year!

Gary Baxter looks like a third CB out there. We need Cmac back. He's coming back next week, or so I hear, but he shouldn't have pulled this crap in the first place.

I don't mind veteran holdouts as long as they get in by week 3 of training camp, especially when you keep the same coaching staff. They don't have a new system to learn, and there's less opportunity to get hurt. ;)

True, I just want him back... AND in shape.

Taunting... why don't they just go ahead and make this touch football... this is ridiculous.

WAY TO GO SPECIAL TEAMS.... idiots.

Last week: Yeah'll we'll let them rekick... oh shit we fumbed.
This week: Hey let's let them rekick again... oh shit we got less yardage...

Awesome coaching... take the 5 extra yards next time dumbass.

hahaha. This Eagles / Ravens game is the liveliest preseason matchup I've ever seen.

Well once again the Ravens look just like the did last year:

Defense: Good to Excellent
Offense-Running: Good
Offense-Passing: Poor
Special Teams: Poor

<sigh>

Rating the running game merely good? Ravens had the best running game in the NFL.

Anyway, I agree with everything else. Chester Taylor should be our #2 back without a question. Musa Stiff can't cut it. Sure, he's big, but that's not good enough to back up Jamal.

-ahem-

Go Jags! Defense looking great! Kicking game looking awful as the first time though.:/

I'm starting to think Garrard might be a better pick than Leftwich haha, Byron's just looked confused out there each time.

Well I haven't been really impressed with what I've seen out of our offensive line yet... but yeah as for actually running, not counting the line I'd rate Jamal and Chester as Good to Excellent.

Right when I say that about Musa, he rushes for 44 yards on 4 carries. Most of the work was done by the O line IMO, but it was still impressive.
