Gillis on Kassian: "We feel he can make a solid contribution for us. Gives us a different look. We can't just win with our skill."

I fucking hope he's right.

Gillis on if Hodgson asked for trade: "There will be speculation that perhaps he did. But those discussions are held behind closed doors."
Hah. Gillis trying to soften the blame, I'm sure. There's absolutely no way Hodgson was asking to be traded mid-season.

Just not amused watching the meltdowns over depth players when I was told I was overreacting over a franchise player getting dealt. I just want Tabris to show up with blind faith just to make the yankee connection that much stronger.

My god you are so fucking pathetic. You run your mouth so much when it is clear you dont have a clue what you are talking about and you keep taking shots at me because I am not all gloom and doom like you are. Simmonds is having a better year then Richards, Voracek is better then Carter, and the Flyers got 2 good young players back as well. Then again you think the Flyers should have kept Betts so I dont even know why I bother trying to explain things to you. I am sorry that your man crush got traded, but that is the nature of sports, and the trade has worked out amazingly well for the Flyers.
GP G A P +/- PIM PP SH
Richards 54 14 17 31 +3 59 2 2
Simmonds 61 22 17 39 -1 75 9 0

Carter 40 15 10 25 -11 14 8 0
Voracek 60 11 23 34 +5 26 0 0

Listening to him on TSN, he seemed generally surprised, so yeah I'm sure this wasn't asked by him.

Apples and oranges with the teams around them.

Dropped Scott, and added Oduya. that puts them even lower. I wouldn't have minded if they took a run at Kassian frankly. Supposedly though there is a lot of frustration in upper managment and Bowman was told not to add a lot of salary for july 1st onward.
Oduya will fight but he's no Scott. Really though, Scott has only been in a half dozen fights this year and him playing 2 minutes a year only puts more strain on the rest of the D. Guys like Hayes are what the 'Hawks need and they need a bunch of them. Kids that play hard and will throw down if need be. Mayers has been the 'Hawks best "enforcer" this year by far. Carcillo was playing well before he got hurt. I wouldn't mind Chicago bringing him back for cheap next year but the 'Hawks new coach REALLY has to get on Carcillo about not playing like a dumbass. He can be pretty effective when he isn't suspended.
the Hawks top end is going to be like Gretzky a la NHLPA 93 since this team is mostly sackless.
:lol
TSN still claims Nashville as a winner, even after giving up a 1st for Gaustad?
Nashville is going to do well in the playoffs so a late 1st isn't that big of a deal.

yup, people gotta realize a late 1st in this round is pretty weak in this draft so if Nashville picks high they really haven't given up anything they couldn't replace through other means, especially with how they play the game.

as for the Hawks, the problem is Hayes really doesn't or never did have a natural mean streak. He did drop the gloves but he isn't nasty by nature. Mayers is fine and I'd take him again next season, but they need a few younger guys that play a tougher game all around. Not even just fighting, but battling on the boards, finishing checks. Hayes could develop that more, and I do like what he has already, odd skating strides aside... Shaw also has some upside as far as being a grinder. Won't scare anyone, but the kid showed some brilliance, and since he's up again we'll see if he has the hunger to stay here. Frankly I'd pass on Carcillo, he's made it clear he can't separate himself from pure stupidity.

I'd love to see Mayers back next year. He was the best offseason move by far.

Hayes doesn't have a mean streak necessarily but he doesn't back down. He hits and is a pretty damn good skater for his size. He's still learning but there really isn't anything with his game that I haven't liked so far.

Shaw has some potential but he's a ways off. He was great for a few games and then hit a wall.

I think the right coach could nudge Carcillo in the right direction. Given that Q is a giant pussy, he's obviously not the right one to do it.

I thought after today I'd have a much better feel for the favorites in the West.

I still have no clue. Any team from the 8 playoff teams could take it.

That's cold. Kassian at least got a call from Darcy Regier.

The Canucks were angry because the deal leaked long before the trade call was made. They didn't want to tell Hodgson until they were sure it was done.

Gillis apologized to Hodgson (personally, of course) for not speaking to him first. Apparently he was still dealing with the NHL office when TSN broke the trade.

Yup.

The Sabres plane was going to take off and the deal hadn't been officially approved by the league yet. Kassian and Gragnani had to be informed before the place took off. Once the trade was out there, there's nothing the Canucks could do to stop the news from spreading. They were waiting for league approval before contacting Hodgson.

(Apparently.)

Also,

Alek Stojanov
RW
6'4"
230lbs

Zack Kassian
RW
6'4"
228lbs

Just sayin'.

Similar with McGinn, found out on the plane from Minny to SJ.

They didn't want to tell Hodgson until they were sure it was done.

But Buffalo, those classless bastards, told Kassian and Gragnani before it was completely and fully finalized? Burke clearly has met his match in media and public opinion manipulation in Gillis.

I wonder what's worse as a player, hearing that you've been traded from your GM and then not leaving due to a clerical error, or hearing from a fellow prospect that you've been shipped out.

Anyone know if Gragnani is going to Phoenix tomorrow as well or will he just go to the Wolves? He's only played one game in February with the Sabres.

This one for sure. You know they don't want you and tried to get rid of you.

At least in the other situation you know you're gone.

I can't tell if you're kidding. They had to pull Kassian and Gragnani off the plane, so there really wasn't much choice.

What's the point? We traded Stojanov for Nas-

Oh.

Well no one will miss Sulzer so Gragnani can't be any worse.

Just heard about Hodgson. Man, that's definitely disappointing upon initial reaction. Seems to be a great talent and a great person.

I'm still scratching my head as to what Gillis is thinking with that return.

The Pahlsson deal is pretty pricey. I think he's too old.

Clearly I must not watch enough Canucks hockey, because I'm not getting the commotion over Hodgson.

Anyways, RE: Nash. Dude is going to have to EXPAND his list of teams this offseason, not shrink it, if he ever wants to get moved.
