Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - out July 31

For anyone that didn't play the OG here are all the cutscenes form that game. This was so damn amazing at the time.

Also worth noting is that based on the demo, Ragebound is what happens when Ryu runs off to deal with the events in Ninja Gaiden (NES).

It's literally one of the most impressive games ever made. People act like Final Fantasy was the start of cinematic games, but this is more cinematic than the SNES FF games. The music is better than the Uematsu NES music too. And it's a sick action game. Peak NES.

10/10 from Noisy Pixel as well.

9.5 from Game Informer

Looks like it's MC 87

Disappointing that the Switch version runs at 30 fps. Blasphemous 1 & 2 ran at 60. I hope the framerate is uncapped or they come with an S2 update otherwise I'm getting this for PC. I played the demo and it ran at 120fps. Game Kitchen what the fuck? I believed in you.

You have got to be fucking kidding me !
How the HELL does a pixel art game only run at 30fps on hardware like the S2 I'll never understand...

Thanks Hyde, you just saved me 25 Eurdollars, PS5 version it is then...

There probably is no Switch 2 version, just Switch 1. I would expect they'll patch it eventually.

Guess we shouldn't be surprised. Game Kitchen are masters with 2D stuff. I was pretty lukewarm on the demo though.

It's for the Switch 1 version. NGR doesn't have a native S2 port yet. When asked about it Dotemu gave some obtuse bullshit answer about S2 "benefitting from the new hardware". They also said NGR is going to get extensive post launch support so they might update the game to S2. You can read full article here.

Yep. That's an easy pass. I just assumed it would be 60fps.

Wait, what?

Boyos, I SERIOUSLY hope it's 60fps on the S2 via brute forcing (maybe it's running at an unlocked framerate hence the 30fps with dips in the S1?).

I seriously don't get how it's 30fps even on the S1 though, I mean, how taxing can the frigging game be ? Ori and Cuphead are still 60fps on the S1 so, again, I don't see how this can only be 30fps...

Dead cells is 30fps on the S1 (and 60 on the S2) but that one has at least the excuse of being taxing on the CPU due to the procedurally generated levels.

I havent watched a ton of footage but I think you can switch between characters at any point and it alters the levels. Might be running 2 versions of each level at once or something. I dunno. 🤷‍♂️

This game was made for the steam deck, I assume a locked 60fps for it.
I played the demo exclusively on the Steam deck. From what I remembered, it ran great at around 90fps at least on the tutorial and first demo level. Hold on I'll boot up the demo …

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - Steam Deck Performance

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is the perfect fit for the Steam Deck. It looks amazing on the smaller screen and should be a great fit for this kind of gameplay. However, for those playing on an OLED Steam Deck, getting to a solid 90 FPS throughout will be tough. There are areas in levels, with some in act 1 and act 2 that stand out, which can either drop framerate a bit or cause battery drain to spike. This led to drops to the 70 FPS range and around 16W battery drain. It's not the most extreme, but it's way higher than it should be (normal range at 90 FPS was around 9W).

Setting to 60 FPS fixes this problem, bringing battery drain down to around 9.5W and keeping a solid 60 FPS.

I don't get why it's 30 fps either on Switch. Game Kitchen fucked up here or it's something we don't know about the game. As you said, Ori 1 & 2 ran at 60 fps and those games pushes the Switch hard, so no reason for this to be 30. You're not playing a fucking Ninja Gaiden game at 30 fps. You would think the developers knew that. It better be updated for S2 by the time the physical version drops on September otherwise I cancel it and get it on Steam.

No OLED here, but I assume I will get 60fps lol

Wow, played the demo and didn't expect 9's. Gonna have to pay more attention. Shinobi looks to be more my Jam, but I'll probably get this.

It's a must have for me. Between this and Shinobi , lemme just say I'm glad to have two brand new 2D updates to two of my fave video game ninjas.
I'm not quite as sold on Shinobi but it is on my wishlist. A demo would be greatly appreciated to try the gameplay firsthand.

Edit: I only saw the announcement trailer and didn't know they also released a combat trailer. I'm a bit more confident now though I'd still like a demo!
