Nintendo Direct Announced For April 2, 2025 - 6AM PT, 9AM ET, 2PM UK, 3PM CEST

Trilobit

Absolutely Cozy
Here's what I'm delusionally hoping for:
Super Mario Bros 2(Grab and throw) sequel or remake.
DKC 1 & 2 (Snes era) remasters.
Super Mario 64 remake or sequel (SM 128).
Wind Waker-esque BotW/TotK sequel. I love me salty water sailing arrr. And me cel-shading arrrr.
A Link to the Past remake akin to Orioto art.
Ocarina of Time remake.

Now, preferrably there would only be completely original games and zero remakes/remasters, but considering how long development times are nowadays I am perfectly fine with Nintendo padding out original releases with non-lazy remakes. And many of these games are ones I've never completed and would buy if they were modernized with Switch 2 capabilities. It might be a good way for them to also give smaller studios a chance to prove their worth and have them eventually make their own games. I just want a bonanza of output this gen.

Are there any credible rumors? I haven't been as tuned in to this as usual.

Expecting MK9 for sure. Definitely at least 1 new IP, if not 2. Not sure what else honestly. They're long overdue for the next main 3D Mario but I wouldn't be surprised to see it unveiled a little bit later.

It’s labeled as a Nintendo Direct, so I’d assume that’ll be the format.

For comparison the Switch (1) event was never announced as being a Nintendo Direct, it was labeled as a ”Nintendo Switch Presentation”.

And as Woopah Woopah mentioned above the reason we’ve had zero leaks about what this presentation contains is likely because Nintendo themselves have full control of the format without reliance on anyone else this time.
I didn't see anyone leak that Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life were in the last event, so hopefully this Direct is also leak-free.

In 48 hours we'll all be blown away with the presentation or be severely disappointed.

I have a gut feeling it will be the former.
That initial Mario Kart footage didn't blow anyone away though.

Personally, I think people want the weird Nintendo more than they think they do and showing something that is almost identical to the previous Switch will not be as much of an explosive marketing event as people expect. Hopefully they have some great games ready to showcase. Switch 2 will sell out, but I think there's not much to be shocked by in terms of the hardware alone. Maybe upscaling.

Same. And I think it was the same in the one before that, I don’t recall seeing any leaks for Mario & Luigi: Brothership, for example.

They seem to have gotten better at keeping things quiet.

Nothing really for first party titles.

We only know of Mario Kart because Nintendo teased it in January.

Also, there was a leak at Gamefreak last year which confirms Pokemon gen 10 is a Switch 2 title.

That's it. Nintendo have done a great job keeping things under wraps.

i really want some kind of trophies/achievements system Nintendo.

also a really good open world pokemon game with amazing graphics and gameplay.
Why would you want Trophies? Nintendo is a company that believes the fun should be in the activity itself, not in the accomplishment.

Trophies and Achievements are bad for people.

Super hyped for this. Crazy that we're about to see the next 3D Mario game. My hopes/predictions:

New 3D Mario Game - Think this one is obvious. Release timing will be interesting - having it as the holiday game worked for them last time, but they also had BOTW at launch. Obviously this time they'll have MK9 though, so I think ultimately this won't be a launch game. Still, going to be great to finally see what they've been cooking - expecting a heavy influence from Bowser's Fury.

Animal Crossing - Hugely successful for the Switch, I think it's a no brainer for them to put this out. I do think it'll be a ways away - they'll have no issue moving that initial stock so having this timed to get the more casual audience in when they start replenishing makes sense. Could see it being a Q1 2026 type thing. Probably not much time spent on it, but it'll show up in a montage or something.

Monolith Soft - They've been reliably putting out games at a good pace and are due for another. Probably the best open world devs in house at Nintendo. Think we see what's next for Xeno, with a summer release.

Metroid Prime 4 - We didn't get a release date last week was because this will launch day and date with the Switch 2. It'll be the title they use to demonstrate the visual upgrade compared to Switch and I'm expecting the Switch 2 version to look great (especially considering what we saw already looks great and runs at 60). This will also show off the mouse capabilities.

Donkey Kong - This ones been heavily rumoured, but I think we'll finally see whatever it is. I am a little hesitant because it could in theory be redundant next to Mario - I could see it being something a little smaller in scale as a result, or less platforming and more collecting ala DK64

Gamecube and/or DS added to NSO - I think part of the reason we haven't seen these MP2/3 and WW/TP remasters is because Gamecube is coming to NSO - these would be 4 of the most obvious premier titles to add to that service so having them release so close as remasters would be less than ideal. I think having some combination of these + F-Zero + Smash Melee would be a nice first batch of games.

All sounds delish! I hope for the same (being ready for disappointment I'm afraid)

I'm certain the next mainline Pokemon game (gen 10) will be open world like Scarlet and Violet, but not sure about the amazing graphics. Gamefreak have been putting in minimum effort since gen 6. This won't get shown at the direct (it's a firm 2026 game), but I think (read hope) we will see...............

New 3D Mario
2D Mario 40th anniversary collection
Mario Kart 9
New Animal Crossing
New Nintendo IP
Zelda OTT remake
New Monolith Soft game
GC games added to NSO........

Nintendo are going to bust a nut. We're going to bust a nut. The whole world will be busting a nut together on Wednesday.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I'm not gonna watch this live, it's too early.

I hope I can get to it later without running into spoilers..

My expectations are high -- not only is it a new console launch but Nintendo has been relatively quiet for really almost two years now. The time for the big guns to come out is now.

Already told my colleagues at work that I'll be watching the stream as it happens and pre-ordering will take priority over everything else. :lollipop_grinning:

I would kill for a console port of Uprising, not putting it (and a lot of other 3DS games) on Wii U was such a missed opportunity
And with Switch 2's mouse like controller, bringing Uprising to the system is more than possible.

I LOVE that game soooo much.

I’m expecting to see a few switch 2 games, especially considering there is the switch 2 roadshow starting this Fri for next two months , be pretty stupid to have switch 2 units to play one but only switch 1 games running on it
