Nintendo is interested in knowing our opinión about Keycards.

You are:

Paying full price for a product that:
-Won't work unless your conect to the internet.
-You'll be subsidizing the Space the Game takes because nothing comes in the card
-You're also getting a cover with a ugly ass label
-No alternative other than digital purchase is offered

Its better than code in a box but not much better.

Also close to 90% of Game releases are like this.

Like I said, every single game is incomplete in the box. On every single platform. Just because the vast majority of games work doesn't mean you're getting the full, complete game as it stands when you buy it or going forward.

That's one thing gamers have always liked since consoles started coming with standard drives (Xbox I guess) or common SD cards (contrary to the PS memory cards or even the PSP Sony-exclusive cards). But the idea of not being able to just insert a game and play can make you anxious, I agree with them.

Lol remember all the feedback they got for Breath of the Wild and gave us the same unchanged game with added features?

Or what about everyone wanting 3 lap tracks on Mario Kart World and they intentionally patch it to force people to play intermissions.

I think they only care to look like they care, but they don't care.

Could we see collectors editions including "full game" on cart because those can be 100+ anyway and it's an in demand feature?

My opinion is simple.
If a physical game is not the game in physical format then it's just plastic pollution. Go full digital and don't come up with this s*.

I already sent the survey. I told them I don't support the Keycard or digital format, only physical.

There are tricky questions to get you to give a positive answer, and I told them no... 100% physical format is best.

And I don't plan on buying an SD Express card.

The thing I hate about it is that you get punished for being a super fan. You can only connect 2 switches. I have 2 OG switches (one for me and one for kids) and now a switch 2. I guess I just have to toss one in the garbage. I will definitely not be purchasing another switch 2 after this if they come out with an OLED model.

Codes are one and done. Key cards do not share that malady.
It's better, but it's not physical. I will admit that Key Cards have obvious and tangible advantages over game key codes, such as transferability and so forth. But in the long run, they fail my use case. I still regularly enjoy to play games from my Super Nintendo, Saturn, or whatsoever. If those were game key cards, I'd not be able to do that any longer as the servers would be long since dead, therefore no amount of "it's not as bad as x" will encourage their use or support from me personally.

I don't get the fuss. If you want a physical copy this is as close as you'll get. Download it and there's your physical copy you can play without internet authentication in the field.

Never felt so satisfied to take a survey and tell them how much I don't like key-cards. At least they are fully aware of the situation. Attach rate data for physical vs key-card must be somewhat worrying I'd imagine

Game-Key Cards can suck my unit. I don't care what franchise it is or how huge hype is. I'm not buying it, Nintendo.

Nobody wants a game key card. I like the digital cards and loaning them out. I don't want a physical thing that is only an entitlement without data on the disk.

I'm not really interested in physical format wars but not being able to gift anyone else a game from the eShop itself? That sucks and I made it clear in the form

More sizes incoming?

Macronix also revealed that its ROM products are primarily used in Nintendo Switch game cartridges. In the future, the company will utilize both in-house MLC NAND and outsourced 3D NAND to meet varying capacity requirements. This business is closely influenced by the sales cycle of game consoles and demand for gaming software, and the company will continue to monitor relevant market trends.

I'm fine with them. They are account agnostic so they are better than digital. I can still buy/trade/sell them. The only difference is the size of the download which by the nature of the Switch 2 is already pretty small.

I've been faced with this decision before.

Several PS5 games also released on PS4. The PS4 versions are generally cheaper. Many come with a free upgrade. I will buy those then select the PS5 version to download and play which saves me a small amount of money.

Then look at many PS5, XS, and PC owners and realize many/most of their games are digital only and I can't see a way to complain about a keycard that can be traded, sold, and is account agnostic. It just doesn't matter how big the patch is to me. Once the game is downloaded, I have a "physical" copy of it on my SD card.

It is difficult to imagine a scenario where this would affect me that doesn't involve zombies or the US losing power for a prolonged period of time AND me having no prep time AND me having an uninstalled game that I really wanted to play using my Switch and I'm guessing some sort of solar array I would need to buy to charge it? Lots of things would need to line up. The only reason I care is because you seem to care. Yet I've never truly seen the "why" explained in detail.

i thing for me, as someone who collects physicals as much as I can, is that the reason I buy physicals is because the data is supposed to be stored on there.

right now i can walk in to a wal-mart, dig my hand in one of those huge bins full of bargain dvds and blu-rays, buy one and the movie will be on there. imagine having to download the thing after you got home?

why should video games be treated differently. preserve that data. in 20 years i should be able to buy that physical and it should just work.

Gamecards may suck now but they will be the only option for physical media in the future once discs are gone. I still want to be able to buy and resell games.

I have only bought three games for my Switch 2 so far and all of them have been games that shipped fully on carts: Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077 and Donkey Kong Bananza. Thankfully, I have no interest in buying anything other than first-party Nintendo games going forward - I bought Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 in support of both CD Projekt RED and their decision to release the game on a 64 GB cart - so the whole game key card and code in a box thing hopefully will not be an issue for me.

However, I did complete the survey to express my dislike of game key cards and how important it is to me that I have Switch 2 games on a physical cart even if ultimately all the games will need Day One and follow up patches and DLC that mean the code on the cart becomes basically a beta version of the game.

The problem as I understand it is that Switch 2 carts, which are based on microSD Express cards I believe, only ship with 64 GB as the smallest size. There is no option for 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 GB like on Switch, which uses standard microSD cards. Unless a game is more than 32 GB then it does seem a bit of a waste to ship it on a 64 GB cart for most publishers since these cost them around $17 each. The alternative would be to increase the cost of third-party games and ship them all on 64 GB carts but that would likely lead to reduced sales due to the games simply being too expensive.

The solution is for Nintendo to request smaller cart sizes from the people making these for Switch 2 going forward, starting with 32 GB then 16 GB and 8 GB with corresponding lower costs for publishers wanting to use these. This will also benefit Nintendo as well since at the moment they have to put games like Doney Kong Bananza on a 64 GB cart even though the game itself is only (I believe) 9 GB.

As long as Nintendo continue to ship their games on carts for Switch 2 then I am happy to support buying their consoles and their games. I will not be supporting or buying any game key card or codes in a box releases though.

P.S. Kind of disappointed that this survey was a link posted on a games website rather than an official email from Nintendo sent to all their online subscribers for Switch and Switch 2.

The link to that survey was also only active for a depressingly short amount of time which makes me feel that the results will be stilted and not really representative of what actual Switch/Switch 2 owners really think. I mean I could have completed the survey multiple times while it was active for example as it is not linked to a single person. That means that this survey could have been open to abuse from non-Switch/Switch 2 owners.

Ehhh there's still a big difference between a game needing a day one patch just to exist like Jedi Survivor and a game is totally good to go like BOTW. I used a pile of my own 30 Switch games to load up a hacked Switch that I don't connect to the net and can play them all just fine without updates. Of course that is because I am buying physical copies of games like BOTW, not Jedi Survivor. Jedi Survivor may as well come from CDkeys, just like all these keycard games.

You have to have like NO LIFE at at, whatsoever, to spend your time abusing an online survey just to hurt Nintendo fans/owners...like, wut?

Well, there will be two paths. I

f he doesn't change... It'll be the new Wii U.

If he listens, we'll all be happy.

For my part, I'm standing firm until they resolve this.

Already sold about half of WiiU lifetime sales in 2 months. No way it is the new WiiU.

WiiU been smoking?
