Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S.

From a value standpoint, I'm kinda interested more in a refurbished Steam Deck OLED now. IDK. I'm a sucker for new shit. Maybe around the holidays when more exclusive S2 games are available I'll pick one up … if prices haven't gone up that is.

And how is it that the pro controller is more than a Dualsense? It doesn't make sense...

Cause it's not shit hardware.

And let me clarify that: I think the DS on paper is a good controller, it's the fact that Sony is purposely make it shit so we have to buy a new one every 6 months.

I've had my Pro controller since launch and it is in immaculate state, same for my launch joycons.

They have completely priced out their core base consisting of families. Going to be interesting to see if they can replicate the success of the switch and Wii this time around.

I wasn't planning on buying any accessories anyway, so this is a big win for me as far as I'm concerned.

I'm in!

It's absolutely ridiculous. A $600 cost to a switch 2 fully kitted out

For me to get ps4 tier hardware and controller for ideal TV play
You can still use your old Pro controller at least, so it isn't essential. But it is a pricey jump for Nintendo. Likely a taste of things to come for next gen PS and Xbox.

Kinda shocked TBH that they aren't raising the console price, I think that's the first thing people were expecting. Peripherals getting a price increase (probably depending on the peripheral) in response to tariffs isn't too big a deal, as most peripherals aren't necessities.

MK World being $80 will still not be funny tho, and we don't know how common $80/$90 dollar games are going to be (right now it's only MK World). Also no price increase for the NSO service; hopefully it remains that way, but if they added new meaningful features at least that would justify some increase (take notes, SIE).

This news is kind of a W for Nintendo after what SIE just did with the PS+ price increases.
So 1 win and lots of losses. It's still losing mate.

For one I have the pro controller from switch 1, and either way, the joycons are now bigger and it felt really good imo to play with just that on the couch with arms relaxed on the side and flick the joycon for Zelda aiming

Accessories I'll wait what happens with price in future, but there's nothing there I need for a long add time

Thing is, paying $700 seems fine when it's cutting edge hardware

Paying $600 for 2013 ish hardware is insane

They should've used this as an opportunity to lower prices after how bad the reactions were to the initial reveal.

Also I assume in 90 days prices could go up given tariffs.

It's a common exaggeration that they never put their stuff on sale. Switch 1 first party stuff usually hits $42 digitally once or twice a year. They rarely if ever go below -30%. It may take several years before that starts, but it happens.

Is it predictable when the sales occur or just random? I imagine right after Xmas?

I guess we'll see if that's true when next gen consoles hit the market in a few years. The console market is pretty stagnant right now, if not contracting. I don't think we'll see much growth with $500 Switch 2's and $800 PlayStations.

A Nintendo superfan might be able to answer that one. Black Friday is always a good guess. And they also had that voucher thing going pretty much 365 days a year for a couple years. I usually get emails from Nintendo for sales, and also emails automatically trigger for anything on my wishlist.

Yep, same. I have two Switch Pro controllers and I don't see anything in the Switch 2 Pro controllers that make me feel like I need to replace what I already have.

I'll be going for the MK World bundle and that's it for launch. Can't wait.

"I talked to Miyamoto, great guy, he makes great products, we made the best deal in gaming history, we gonna have the best games and the best controllers, and Microsoft will pay for it"

I wouldn't even put it past Phil to help get Switches in peoples hands to reach more gamers. Sounds like something he'd consider at least.

So far it looks like Nintendo customers will pay for it. Glad I'm not a Nintendo customer.

You can get a brand new switch 1 pro controller for $46 free shipping on Walmart.com right now. Better haptics remain to be seen, but even that, is it worth $40 for them and a C button?
I have one already, plus an extra Splatoon 3 one sitting in a box somewhere. I guess I'm good.

We will see after the tariff pause ends. Right now the console price isn't effected. If anything I was hoping Nintendo would adjust to market feedback and use this as a chance to lower some pricing (even if its only until tariffs take effect).

I feel this is what's the most ridiculous to me. 80 dollars for a game is a tough pill to swallow. MK8 Deluxe sold a ton of copies but then again it was 60 dollars and making it cost 30% more is a lot to ask especially for parents/families.

Interesting choice since even without taking into account tariffs, USD is losing value against JPY since the beginning of the year.

Still good news and a sign that Nintendo doesn't want to fumble the burger market launch despite the worst possible economic conditions (objectively).

I'm not american but at this point I'd strongly suggest whoever is in USA and on the fence about buying it or waiting... by all means, buy it at launch.
The fact that the PR specifically says "at launch" is concerning.

Given also what just happened with Sony's PS5 prices in EU... we are entering a weird era of prices going UP after launch :\

I'm not buying anything for $80. I'll wait 3 years for Zelda to get their usual 30% off they do once a year. Not buying any indies or 3rd party games on this thing either. Just Nintendo 1st party, $70 or below. Barely going to use this thing.

I'll get the bottom tier of NSO only for Splatoon 4.
I feel switch 2 will go the way of the 3DS where the first year and a half sales were terrible due to how greedy they were.

6 months after release they dropped the price from 250 to 170.

it wasn't til the XL came out the next year (at 199) that the system started to be successful.

I see Nintendo being humbled for their greed like what happened with 3DS with the switch 2 getting a 50 dollar cut and the games going to 60.

I have a switch 1 pro controller

But unfortunately there's FOMO with not getting a switch 2 pro controller

Not getting the official controller made fit the new system

I dunno why hands on impressions seem so light on details. No mention of haptics

Agreed. The communication suggests to me that they'll sell through all of their stock that they already have in the US at the previously announced prices, and then after that who knows.

It's a different market since when 3DS came out, it's a different machine than 3DS.

I think 450 makes sense.

I don't think anyone can predict anything economically at this point 6 months into the future. 🤷‍♂️

I wonder what's going to happen with Switch 1 accessory makers in China now with the stupidly high tariffs. Joycon replacements in particular were great help in ergonomics and device stability side.

Phew. I was honestly getting scared that we would see a price hike once yesterday passed without an announcement. Friday is generally the day when corporations dump their bad news. So it's a relief that the system price is unchanged.

Switch 2 stays the same as its made in Vietnam. Accessories go up as they are made in China.

Yeah, a $5 price increase is pretty mild given the severity of the Chinese tariffs. We're honestly in best case scenario territory here, though I was already planning to pass on the pro controller at launch and this certainly hasn't changed my mind.
