Nintendo Maintains Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing, Retail Pre-Orders to Begin April 24 in U.S.

Interesting choice since even without taking into account tariffs, USD is losing value against JPY since the beginning of the year.

Still good news and a sign that Nintendo doesn't want to fumble the burger market launch despite the worst possible economic conditions (objectively).
I guess it's a matter of perspective, but JPY still hasn't recovered to where it was against the USD in late September and October of 2024. Look back 5 years for a much better view. Going back three and a half months doesn't tell the story at all. If it surpasses where it was at that time last year and continues to rise then there's probably a story you can weave, but the only burger is the nothing burger of whatever it is you're talking about regarding the strength of JPY. It's getting better, but it's no landmark at the moment.

knowing i can use my s1 pro controllers is nice actually. Might pick up 1 more to get ready. S2 pro controller hopefully won't really be necessary.

Third party will feast on this. Hori especially

I don't think anyone can predict anything economically at this point 6 months into the future. 🤷‍♂️
Just seeing history repeat itself.

Nintendo sold so many DS units they assumed people would pay anything they asked for with the 3DS. Seems every game company gets arrogant right after a successful generation.

Nintendo clearly didn't understand why the Wii and DS were big successes when they made and priced the Wii U and 3DS.

At the end of the day at least since 2006 nintendo only does well when their hardware is priced significantly less than their competition.

Uhh Switch 2 is 449$ in USA? Thought it was 399$ since it's 469€ in Europe, gotta applaud them for treating us better than most other companies.

Yep, if I can use my existing pro controllers I'm happy. I don't need the C button at all based on what I know about it.

As of right now it's actually more or less at the lowest level of September last year if you check the 1y chart.

And nothing indicates it will turn around between now and June.

MK World $110CAD, DK $100CAD, Pro Controller $110CAD, Joycons $125CAD....yeah I dunno about this system....

And how is it that the pro controller is more than a Dualsense? It doesn't make sense...
It's only more expensive than Dualsense so far, in the US anyway. Wait until existing stock clears and more controllers that are made in China need to be imported. Gamers are going to see more than just Nintendo first party controllers going up in price. Nintendo is just the first to go there because they probably don't have as much stock on hand as the other players.

Yeah, Euro pricing is actually better considering you have VAT rolled in. €/£ is also appreciating against the $.

I am going to get one of the new Gamesir's Switch compatible controllers with Hall Effect or even the newer TMR sticks before tariff prices kick in.

And even if the tariffs don't end up being imposed, Nintendo won't make things any cheaper — they'll just pocket the money. Classic Nintendo move

Better haptics remain to be seen, but even that, is it worth $40 for them and a C button?
I'll just chime in with the differences compared to the Switch (1) Pro controller:

Added C-Button
HD Rumble 2.0
Added programmable back buttons (GR/GL)
Audio jack

I don't think it's worth the upgrade at double the price though.

I could be wrong, but haven't the Chinese tariffs already been imposed? I believe Nintendo manufactures most of its accessories in China, so they should already be taking the 125% per unit hit on those.

They do some of their console manufacturing in Vietnam, whose tariffs are still under the 90 day pause, which presumably is why they didn't raise console prices in the US.

Do any Bluetooth headphones work with switch 2?

It's not double the price, it's a disingenuous comparison!

But if anyone wants Switch Pro controller for this limited time sale price, go buy it. It's at Walmart for $45 and no other retailer has it this cheap!

Regular price is $70 for Switch pro controller. How long before Nintendo discontinues this controller? Especially due to tariffs and they'll have to raise the price? Since it's made in China!

i might be skipping this thing at launch. hard to care for any of the games and the hardware.

might circle back once i hear anything on Smash 6.

I'd assume so, but I have very little experience with that myself on Switch (1). I have connected a pair of Galaxy Buds to it though which worked perfectly fine, so I'd assume that'd work on Switch 2 as well.

I think any Bluetooth headphone will/should work, but I've only tried it with the Buds.

I think I'm okay with the system price at $450.
I think I'm okay with MK at $50.
I think I'm okay with Donkey Kong at $70.

After that, all bets are off. I will definitely be buying a ton less than Switch 1. Not even close really.

DK will completely depend if it's made by the 3D Mario team and on that level of game. If it's anything like any other DK game from the past, I'm not paying. Agreed with your other takes, Nintendo has not provided solid reasoning for their variable pricing. I don't care what kind of game it is, even Zelda is not worth $80 (unless it was a collector's edition physical release). Nintendo is not going to be able to proceed with high priced games AND their evergreen strategy.

Fuck Trump. Why you people post images of a man who is ruining the global economy is beyond me. He is a disgusting piece of trash.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, the Trump administration is not "ruining" the global economy. It's causing a little turmoil here and there, maybe leading to a crash (stocks down 20%+), but nothing substantial. Best bet is to assume that within one years time, everything will be back to "normal" again. Now a "ruined" global economy would look very different. I'm not even sure if US politics alone would be able to accomplish that at this point tbh.

I hope DK is like a 3D SteamWorld dig. The impressions of peoples playing it was very positive. You have to level up your digging strength and you basically dig down in the depths of the earth and this is where the levels change.

I think at launch I would pick
MKW (bundle) +$50
DK +$70
Zelda BOTW / TOTK upgrades +2*$10
Digital the Fast fusion game as Shin'en is always day 1 god tier.

Metroid Prime 4 Switch 2 +? (don't care, will buy 100%) whenever it releases.
