Nintendo says many more Nintendo Direct events between now and E3

The only thing that stinks is I miss a lot of Nintendo Directs. For E3 I would usually use a few personal days, but with random Nintendo Directs popping up out of no where I can't do anything but look up crap on my phone during breaks. In the end I still find out what everyone else did, but I miss out on a lot of the hype fun. :(

What would make a lot of sense to me is Nintendo Directs leading up to E3 focusing on single games. That could maximize coverage and lead to a good month of hype.

That's a great idea. They could spend time showing us behind-the-scenes of the studio and interviews with developers as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this is how they approached it.

Also, if games like Mario Kart and 3D Mario have polished demos, they should release them on the Wii U same day.

I get their intention, get the press more hands on time with the games, but we all know what they're going to write about anyway.

How does Zelda Wii U look compared to the PS4/Durango games? How good are the textures in Retro's new game?

"The new Mario game plays great, but doesn't have the same wow factor as *insert PS4 game*."

This but to be fair they will try to soften their superficial blow by awarding EAD Tokyo's Mario "best platformer" of the show.

(yes, it won't have any competition)

I wish they drop a big bomb, Bayoneta 2 magatons level.
But I doubt they have the money make a big deal with a third party because they have no money, eck they can't even afford for the E3 conference.

ZombiU 2 dedicated Nintendo Direct. Three-to-four times the content of ZombiU. Improved engine and graphics. Expanded Metroidvania level designer with a bigger focus on exploration play. All survival mechanics intact, nothing simplified, though smarter balance / better use of certain equipment.

The true zombie survival horror. Day one.

I'd love ZombiU 2, but I wonder if it's even in the realm of possibility after disappointing sales.

Yeah, me neither. What I meant was that the press will focus almost solely on graphics, and communicate just that message to its reader.

What press? Mainstream media? Because those wont see a difference between Mario 64 2 and PS4 games in terms of graphics.

I understand why they are doing this, but it's still kind of a weird strategy to me. Like, I get that the gaming enthusiast press has turned against Nintendo, and the main stream press and investors have been dour as well, and they haven't gotten the coverage they had during Wii's launch... so what do you do? You double down on your base, you cater to them directly, in the hopes you can up-convert them to additional product to make up for the shortfall. But what they are doing is effectively cutting out the broader audience completely. The ND's have been super successful with that double down strategy, and they obviously get to control the entire conversation (both tone and message), but it's only speaking to their base. Broader gamers/consumers/non-Nintendo owners do not receive this message. They had an opportunity to speak to this audience at E3, but they are largely non-competing, so mindshare will be even smaller. I wonder what phase two of this approach is? It seems like a good idea - look, it gets us, the core, excited - but they have a dwindling core base, so it seems more bandaid/short term than a sustainable solution.
My concerns exactly. I guess they may be thinking that the news disseminates to the mainstream via media afterwards anyway. My worry for the future is that the gaming press will eventually say 'sod you' although that is likely many years away.

The thing about E3 conferences is that the dates are fixed.

There is no way to delay an E3 conference, but with Nintendo Directs Nintendo can delay everything.

Nintendo Directs are my new drugs, hook me up on that shit Iwata bro.

Indeed...someone put Iwatas head on this gif lol

Was thinking about the Game Informer and IGN's of the world. They will see the difference. ANd they will tell us all about it.

This raises a question I've been wondering about.. what happens to 3rd party titles..

I mean getting a stage presence or an e3 demo usually raises the stock of the game, and depending on how they do a Nintendo Direct could kind of get swept under the rug

I like the Direct approach. No waiting all year for info at 1 event. Let fans no as soon as there is something to tell.

Less waiting = better in my book.

True, I hadn't thought of that. The press will pay attention to Nintendo games regardless, but a lot of the third party stuff just won't have a big presence at the show if it's relegated to hands on demos.

I'm assuming Nintendo will include them in ND's. If not, that's a bit of an FU.

I'm sure they will be showcased somehow, but c'mon. Third parties ain't on board w/ U. None but Ubisoft. We'll get the usual Lego, Disney, and DC/Marvel games and not much else it's looking like. Maybe CoD if we're lucky, but after sales of BO2, who knows? Nintendo will have some partnerships with Japanese 3rd parties, which they will likely publish themselves in the west.

What 3rd Party titles? I'm sure that's the main reason why they ditched the E3 presentation...There aren't going to be any 3rd Party games after E3.

I'd buy that, I thought the first game was well.... extremely lacking in just about every area, but I like the idea and it still had some potential.

They're all on youtube under Nintendo's channels.

Usually yeah, but since they have "many more" they will have to spread it out.

I think it'd be more fun to have 3-4 ND directs on par or better than the last few we have had, but put them all within 12 hours of each other near the end of May. The mayhem and total takeover of the first page of Gaming GAF would be great.

So Xbox 720 announcement and than a week later megaton Nintendo Directs, and than two weeks later E3? I'll feel bad for the GAF servers lol.

U don't bump Nintendo Direct threads without Directs

:P

...But...But I only bummed it 5 days :(

Where does it say many more?

TC

I don't see Nintendo trying to compete with Microsoft for attention, my own personal predictions is that we will get a preliminary Wii U Direct before May 21st. (and the rest of the information around E3)

I expect this bump to deliver this week's Direct no way around it now. I must have Direct

You mean "various press events and Nintendo directs?" that Does not translate into "many more" because Nintendo also had two directs last E3.

I personally I think it would be wisest of them to begin their ND with lesser known franchise or new IP's. then lead up with bigger known ones and then bam Super Mario U as the last one!

"Many more" is two I think
We know how they are. I expected a Direct the day Super Metroid releases but with the Xbox soon after I don't know...I'm still betting either the 15th or the week after.

Haha, yeah I'm thinking the same thing. 3 at most. I wish I could be as optimistic as some of you.

Wishful hoping on my part, but maybe they'll do one a week leading up to E3.

I don't think that's wishful thinking at all!

they nothing better to do at E3 they should do one per week even if it is 10 minutes long each time chotto directs focused on 1 game would be fine
