Nintendo statement on lack of adaptor in NA.

Perfect way to die as a company. Guys we don't need new owners.

Good thing It hasn't dawned on Nintendo that we have 3DS game cases, and carrying cases.
You know what guys? In our efforts to save you the consumer money, we decided to cease a including case with our New 3DS games. In order to keep our games at the $39.99 price point and save the environment, cartridges will now come in a paper sleeve.

Don't give them ideas. Pretty soon you will see them decide retail costs too much money and put all things digitally by that logic flow.
I am just glad at least the XL stuff works on the new version. It is really shitty to just phase out the regular 3DS though with no explanation. If I remember right, DSi or GBA SP did not make the original accessories for GBA/DS not work.

Ya, you guys have officially gone off the deep end in ludicrous at this point.

Yeah but your comparing apples and oranges. If you want to just bring up all kinds of shifty anti-consumer things up, Apple doesn't require you to keep your old devices to do some outdated physical transfer of your digital goods when you upgrade your device (not to mention an upgrade that they want to entice to keep them in business).
I just realized this. Yeah transferring is going to be a big pain in the neck. Also I doubt the charge they give you will last during the transfer process. What if it goes off during it, is your system SOL?

I agree with Nintendo on this one; a significant portion, if not the majority of these chargers would go to people who already have one and assuming they have matched the price accordingly, I think companies should be encouraged to send as little shit straight to the landfill as possible.

Whose first thought is to throw away an extra adapter?

lol this exactly. The over reaction are laughable. Its a revision targeted mostly likely to current 3ds owners looking to upgrade, but hey this is the nature of the internet.

Nah you guys are just sheep consumers. That's what's laughable.

Oh don't worry, I'm the last person who will defend Nintendo's practices. They're comically bad at making things easy for their customers (see: everything to do with digital downloads) and they deserve the backlash.

Bingo. This is Nintendo's business model now. Continue to shake every nickel and dime they can out an ever shrinking fanbase.

They have no growth or hope for growth, just robbing their whales blind until the first smartphone generation grows up and tells them to get lost.
Sad but true.

They're very fortunate to have a rabid fan base that will swallow everything they dish out and defend every shameless, anti-consumer move as if their life depended on it.

Switching into VR evangelist mode again, theres a good chance in 30-40 years it wont be a case of "no room in pockets for two devices" but your damn face and eyes being plugged into one manufacturer/OS of choice. When that sort of tech company has a monopoly on your fucking vision, I do wonder what room there is for outfits that have nothing in that area or quite simply can't compete.

They'll be a distant memory of my childhood or selling software for whatever device wins the VR wars. The good news is that either way they won't be making shitty hardware anymore.

With this and no New 3DS, it made today's Direct kind of a let down. There's no defense for this from a consumer's point of view. It's just shitty.

Ya, you guys have officially gone off the deep end in ludicrous at this point.
I am glad Xbox 360 owners were not as forgiving as 3DS owners seem to be. I would never own an Xbox One if that was the case. All new games would be 50 GB downloads with a 25 GB patch on day 1. *shudders*
So, yeah. I'll stick with the handheld that I own instead. Nintendo loses a sale, and it also loses even more of what little goodwill that it has left with me, as a company.
Yeah. Seems Nintendo learned absolutely nothing from working with Sony. The Wii/DS really was a fluke. I doubt Wii U/3DS will match GC/GBA numbers.

It probably saves Nintendo about 50 cents USD to a dollar for each unit.
They also get at least $5 per sale of an adapter. Free money.

That was me. I was thinking about upgrading. Then Nintendo cheaped out on an AC charger, and decided to make me pay for it instead-- something I haven't had to do with a Nintendo handheld since buying batteries for my GBA 13 years ago.

I would like to see how much removing the AC adapter actually saves the consumer. I do find it interesting to see some people are conditioned to expect less from Nintendo.

Wish it were an option to choose an AC adapter over the microSD card. I'd much rather have the AC adapter to charge the blasted thing.

...What? What are you even talking about at this point? Just look at what you wrote:

Don't give them ideas. Pretty soon you will see them decide retail costs too much money and put all things digitally by that logic flow.

Everyone is going this way... in every industry that can get away with it.

If I remember right, DSi or GBA SP did not make the original accessories for GBA/DS not work.

You remember wrong. DSi had a different charger, the DSLite had a different charger.

And I'm pretty sure your accessories also didn't stop working on the device for which you bought them...

This is basically how I see Nintendo now. They're just shaking down their whales while they cobble together whatever Hail Mary gimmick is going to power their next set of platforms.

Yep same here. The logic is that MicroSD cards are universal in loads of devices, cameras, phones, consoles, digital picture frames, you name it. There's a hell of a better chance someone will have one of those laying around than a freaking proprietary charger.

What kind of company is stupid enough to help limit their product to only upgraders rather than everyone, including first time adopters?

sorry, this is a shitty response. Many folks traded in their old DS hardware in anticipation of the upcoming new one. NOA is making this an "inconvenience" for folks which you NEVER do to customers

It doesn't save consumers one thin cent. Do you honestly think they were going to retail for $202.99 and now they can bring the price down to $199?

This is about increasing their margins, plain and simple.

I've got 6 in my camera bag so point proven!

Hahaha that wasn't a serious post. I was making light of Nintendo's cheapness
Some people take the internet way too seriously.
The only thing I will say is they could possibly try to not bundle a controller with the next console if this works. Make it work with Wiimotes.

Agree. A 4 GB microSD card probably costs less than the charger. Plus using a third party card would not void my warranty.

If the consumer refers to Nintendo, then sure it saves them money. People gave Microsoft shit because they where going to release the Xbox One without a headphone. Something that's not even necessary with Kinect but that it would still be the better option and they decide to included. That was the time when Microsoft was digging their own grave and still they end up including it.

Nah you guys are just sheep consumers. That's what's laughable.

while i' at least be laughing when i'm playing the new face tracking 3d, upgraded cpu/proc, c-nub, better battery life system all at the same price as the regular ones. you can buy the one that comes with a charger, cause you know Nintendo giving you a choice here and in the end isn't that what matters? 3ds xl with charger or new 3ds with the above mention with no charger?

Cheap asses. The statement still reads like "because fuckyou, give me money!".

Did they really forget the best excuse, "because environment"?

and assuming they have matched the price accordingly
lol.

....

In the grand scheme it's obviously not a massive issue.

I think it's probably more irksome from a standpoint of:
- they actually expect people to believe this "we're doing it for you, you're welcome" line
- people (to some astonishment) are actually towing this line

It probably would have been better to say nothing.

And from a business commentary perspective it's interesting and/or bizarre as outlined by others:-
- it seems like such a minor saving/increase in revenue to elicit ire over
- it somewhat signals this release as essentially an upgrade initiative rather than an attempt at growth (something that's not that unsurprising I suppose.)

Also how many freaking chargers will retailers be stocking at each store at launch? I sure hope it's more than the number of Marth Amiibos or GameCube adapters. Good luck to those frustrated parents who will be looking for these adapters with their new 3ds purchase for little Jimmy.

I guess one can spin/interpret it that way, but that reply wouldn't seem to make much sense if they were replying to a concern regarding the end consumer not receiving the adaptor.

How much is a separate charger ? If they charge $14.99 - $20 dollars they can fo F themselves.

Lol taking something out thats free and charging for if.
That's the weird part. The official Nintendo store sells them for $9.95. And that's price for consumers. The AC adapter probably costs Nintendo around $3-5 to make. Don't tell me they cant afford including that inside a $200 box?

It wouldn't be so bad if the N3ds had a generic USB port but no. Of course they had to keep their stupid preopretary port for the adapter.

I think I saw maybe 2 at my GS store.
Oh man this holiday will be fun.

Has a website broken down the tech and put up the cost to make? My guess is $120.

Honestly curious, if people would act like this if Sony removed the HDMI cable and power cord from a redesigned PS4. Guys, guys, you have plenty of HDMI cables and the power cable is the same one from the PS3 and old PS4. Oh, the cost won't actually be cheaper though, but we are saving you money. Lol.

That's a bit of a stretch considering people are far less likely to go through multiple home consoles than they are portables.

I dunno i find it real hard to get upset about any of this. I guess im sheep?

The adapters are common as dirt and cost less than $10 most places. And I would bet that 8 of every 10 New 3DS XL they sell is to someone who already owns a 3DS or DSi of some type in the past.

It doesnt save the consumer, it saves their profit on each unit sold.
That's the new trend; selling you a gaming device at a price they feel looks attractive, while also getting you the consumer to shoulder the extra cost of the accessories you'll need for it.
It's why they popped a dinky 8/32GB HDD in the Wii U. It keeps their costs down, and passes them onto you.
Then PR tells you they're doing you a favor.

Nah there's literally no way they cost more than $1 at most. I still remember when I worked at the Foxlink/Foxconn offices here in the US and saw the cost to companies like Monster cable and Microsoft. HDMI cables and the like were about 5 cents each. Meanwhile at the time, I think Monster was selling those cables at Best Buy for $99.

If it's that cheap, then they should fucking include it.

just buy a fucking adaptor. Seriously, I understand this. I currently have a DSiXL and a 3DS and have both chargers, I don't need another one. I know it's essential to the console, but still, you can buy one on Amazon, or you can buy a travel adaptor which is way more useful.

Wi-Fi too, after all I use a cable to connect my PS4/PS3. Think of the money that I could save if I didn't have to pay for that. MS should bring back the WiFi adapter for the Xbox One.
Ugh, do not get me started on Microsoft. The original Xbox had all the same features on all models. Then with the 360 they decide to cut costs, they will make proprietary HDDs and force a proprietary WIFI adapter for the system. Then on top of that QA went out the door and it overheat and the disc tray would break.
The original XB is still the best thing they ever done with all the Sega games.

Nintendo has done the same type of stuff as well. Not going for discs in N64, going for micro discs on Gamecube, issue so many Wii and DS accessories. If their games weren't fun, I would bail on them quick. I almost did considering the Wii was a pretty boring console.
