Nintendo allegedly sells through 3 million units within 24 hours.

I have the feeling that a lot of people wants to see this thread disappear 😆

They will have no issue producing games for the Switch 2.
Yeah, and they've been growing their workforce a lot since back when Switch launched as well, from 5,200 employees to 8,200 today.

Not to mention all of the development partner relationships (Mercury Steam, Acquire, Bandai Namco, Grezzo etc.) they've managed to maintain over the Switch (1) generation.

Seems like they're just starting off with the exact same strategy for the Switch 2. I'm convinced DK Bananza is finished and could've been here at launch. But, as with the Switch, they're just actively choosing to spread things out.

This all sounds great and a genuine question. How many internal studios do Nintendo have?
They have 5 or 6 big main teams that make all the main Nintendo first party games, the infamous Nintendo wizards, they make the marios and zeldas and animal crossings and have endless time and money to polish and make sure that top-tier Nintendo franchises continues to stay relevant.

Then they have several internal studios that work with external partners, I assume things like the sports games and remakes and such.

Then they have Monolith (xenoblade), Retro (metroid), Next Level Games (luigis mansion), Intelligent Systems (fire emblem), Cube (mario party), Game Freak (pokemon), HAL (kirby) and some other studios that also make first party games.

I probably forgot something, but thats the meat and potatoes of their operation. But they are expanding and have deals with many smaller studios here and there as well.

Hopefully with the long gestation of the switch 2 these projects are far long. 2-3 Nintendo games a year, large or small are the reason I own this system.

I have faith, they rarely make a shit game.

If Valve launches Steam Deck 2 with Half Life 3...there's the competition.
I don't think so, they'd have to make it exclusive, actually I've been laughing at the possibility of them making Half Life 3 exclusive to Linux just for fun, I can assure you Switch 2 will still be mostly untouched but Windows having won't lol

I really hope we don't get arrogant Nintendo this gen. They need to provide plenty of great exclusives in combination with strong third-party support. If they do that I think this could very well become my favourite Nintendo console, perhaps even rivaling PS2.
Nintendo has always been the same way but they also have over 100 first party titles that sold over a million on Switch

They are arrogant because they know who they are and what they have. I have no doubt they'll have a great amount of first party output on Switch 2

Mario Kart World is a successor to 80 million seller.
Huh… Mario kart is one of the strongest IPs they have bro.
Zelda is my fav game series ever, but I think MK might be bigger. Especially when it comes to sales.

Gaf is out of touch on a few things, but one thing people seem to be consistently off about is the popularity of online games
Sure. But in terms of being a lighthouse title you'd likely want for a launch, it's no 3D Mario or Zelda. Mario Kart is a known quantity. People know it's good. People know what they're getting. MK always sells, yes. But it's kinda boring as a launch title, even with the open-world as an "innovation".

Since so many physical stores had switchs ready to pick up... Im poised not to believe it... (and my S2 arrived yesterday)

This is a bizarre reading of the situation.

It would hold some weight usually, but:
  • Nintendo explicitly said they were stockpiling consoles
  • The experience events all 'sold out'
  • Nintendo's own pre-orders sold out
  • 2.2 million pre-orders were applied for in Japan alone

Many are mistaking supply chain efficiency for an indicator of weak sales. Remember how Sony air-shipped PS5s during the COVID pandemic just to fill demand? That's because an unfindable console is effectively a lost sale.

It is very risky to have supply problems. PS2 weathered it, but it is still risky when you have good competition.

The Switch 2 launch in my country went incredibly smoothly, especially considering Nintendo only recently started supporting our region. This really shows how well-prepared they were.

Why? Nintendo had said their plan to battle scalping was to have good stock and it was clear they were making these things for months with the leaks. They were easier to get than any other console at launch, preorders sold out quick indicating high demand, the Switch 2 is the follow up to the Switch 1. All of these things point to this being true.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) launched with a selection of games designed to showcase its capabilities. These included Super Mario World, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Gradius III, and SimCity.
In North America, Super Mario World was a bundled game with the console

The good old days when Nintendo brought out the heavy artillery for a launch.

Most undeserved launch and sales for the number they will hit. Other than MKW, there is hardly anything out yet. One of the worst launches ever for games, it feels like a soft launch. I know by the end of the year it will be different. But reminds me of the N64, with release few and far between. Playing more Switch 1 games than any new ones for 2.

A quick eBay search shows plenty of scalpers trying to sell them for $600-700.

These fools have plagued EVERY major launch for the past five years. I hope they end up wasting their time and losing money.

Millions and millions of people don't own a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series and have not played Split Fiction, Cyberpunk, Street Fighter 6, Hitman, etc before.

Since hardly anybody owns a handheld PC, most people haven't had access to these games in a portable form yet either.

Problem they have imo is they released a lot of wii and wii u games on the switch to pad out the first party stuff.

I feel like that well is dry now outside of full blown remakes.

I think well see a lot of last gen third party ports filling the gaps and a lot less first party this time around.

No way we see a mainline Zelda until 2030 for example imo
The Wii U thing is overblown I think. That well ran quite dry fairly soon, and they were still publishing nearly a game a month on average on Switch. They look to continue that trend on Switch 2.

Internally they have 5 normal studios capable of creating their own games, plus 5 support studios.

Then you have EPD. This has 10 production groups but most of them draw from a single pool of developers and so they don't really operate as separate team. Plus some of those production groups are focused on support work.

But then they have a lot of external partners. Only a minorty of Nintendo first party games are made 100% internally.

Internally they also have NST in Washington (they did last year's Mario vs. Donkey Kong), plus SRD, NERD, iQue, Shiver, Nintendo Pictures and 1Up as support studios.

And as you say they have many many external partners.
To add more context, this marks Nintendo's first official store in the country. While an eShop is not yet available, it is reportedly in development.
Is that Saudi Arabia?

Well my sister got two, one for her and her boyfriend & from the same retailer..

And there's a shit load on eBay, more then we saw for previous consoles so.....
Hey, a sale is sale.
So many they had to double the player count in Mario Kart to cope.
Yes indeed, 12>24
The servers wanna crash if they didn't do that.
