President Trump announced a trade deal with Vietnam, which puts a 20% tariff on all goods originating from the country. This might seem like a good deal, especially as the latter originally had a 46% tariff before Trump paused the tariffs he put on all the U.S.'s trade partners for 90 days, dropping down the numbers to just 10%. Unfortunately, Nintendo, which manufactures the Switch 2 consoles in Vietnam, used the 10% tariff amount for its earnings forecast, according to PCMag. This means that the tariff change may throw a wrench into its plans.

As far as I know, Nintendo do not sell hardware and do not have an estore for Saudi Arabia. I bought the Switch 1 when I was in Saudi Arabia 8 years ago, it was a Japanese one with the weak-prong like legs on the power-adapter.

How the hell can they continue to afford flying out instagram models and taking massive dumps on them when Nintendo keeps pulling crap like this.

Boolshit, USA tarrifs shouldn't effect other countries imports. Unless it moves from Vietnam to the USA then shipped to SA

Everyone around the world is paying in their own way for the Switch US price not getting jacked up after the emergency preorder delay.

Edit: Except Japanese people with language locked Switch 2s maybe

A price increase inflected in KSA is probably gonna hit the UAE as well

Depends.

Both SAR and AED are pegged to the dollar, so the currency impact is identical. If its for those reasons then there will be price increases across the whole region.

If its down to distributors then it will likely be contained within Saudi Arabia.

I know I lived in Saudi Arabia / UAE for 20 years lol

But in general if the price is increased in UAE or KSA, they reflect on the whole gulf countries

Bear in mind the Saudi Riyal is pegged at a fixed exchange rate to the US dollar, which has lost value against Asian currencies since the beginning of the year.

The net effect is that Saudi suppliers are paying more for Switch stock to sell in the territory.

EDIT : beaten! Yeah what they said ∆

So in simple, it's the US fault again.

Adjust the prices in the U.S. also. The only way people are going to wake up to the economic fuckery we live in is when companies raise prices on the fly to counteract certain decisions that are told to be for our own good.

Smart to raise it in Saudi Arabia first. Trump listens to them and they're invested in gaming. I don't think he listens to anything anyone in the US says.

I wouldn't say "fault" - currencies vary in value all the time. A weaker dollar makes exports more attractive so it depends on the economy whether increased or decreased Forex is beneficial.

The GCC states can let their currency free float if they want, but I guess they like to link it with the oil price (uses USD valuation) which they can manipulate.

Which all basically sums up as - it's just one of those things. I don't think Nintendo are stealth hiking prices, I don't think the distributor is gouging customers, I just think its a side effect of global economics at the moment.

Almost $600 for THAT!? Well folks, get ready, both MS and Sony are salivating, with their $999 consoles for next gen. (well I don't know about shitty MS, but Shitty sony is gonna go in for the kill)

Visit Ajman and Ras Alkhima next and let me know how rich they are please.

I was there and bought a lot of fake things.
Go to Bombay, Kalkutta … everywhere on the planet live poor People. These people have other problems than consoles they cant afford.
I still need the receipt of those 2 french girls though.

Yes and no because the US congress cowardly punted their monetary duties onto a private central bank called the Federal Reserve. Thus it is bank policy that allows the US to spend far out of its means and create the largest bubble in history.
