Nintendo Switch 2 has the worst launch day titles of any system in my gaming life.

How do y'all like your crow? Grilled? Baked?

Smells so good in here already.

The best thing about Neogaf predictions is you can expect the opposite.

"Jan 13, 2017
I don't see that happening. With that price, that paywall and that game line up, I see it below 40M after 5 years. Maybe even below 30M units."
The difference being that for a lot of people, the mario kart switch bundle will probably be what they go with, and that might be the only game they get for a while, because after tax, that's still a cool $550 for one game.

That's a big fucking ask for mario kart. I like mario kart as much as the next guy, but nearly $600 to play one game is a really pushing it.

Furthermore, the original switch launched at $299 and Zelda, arguably the best game to get at launch, was only $59. So after tax, you could take the whole thing home for a little less than $400. And that $400 would get you one of the most groundbreaking, critically acclaimed zelda games of all time.

Mario Kart is good, but it's never going to have the pull or prestige of a new landmark 3D Mario or Zelda game.

MKW looks fun, and I'm excited to play it, but the game that got me most hyped the whole show? Fuckin' Bravely Default, and that sucks.

It'll sell, of course, it's Nintendo, but I think the glamour Nintendo has cast is starting to fade, and people are becoming more conscious consumers, or at least, more cynical. I can see why people feel the way they do.

Demon's Souls is a PS3 game bro.
Must be embarassing for Nintendo to not be able to surpass it visually even after 2 generations then....

And that's where I think you're completely wrong. Not only do I think Mario Kart will be a very highly reviewed game, it will probably remain in the top ten sellers list for years. It has outsold those "landmark" Mario and Zelda games by a long shot.

Then we get a brand new 3D Donkey Kong game soon after. Then we finally get a brand new Metroid Prime game. Add in all the 3rd party games and add in all the previous Switch 1 games that are compatible and will receive resolution and framerate patches.

There is games to play for months.

Lastly, Nintendo has obviously not revealed everything coming to the console. People are acting like this is all were getting for the next 5 years.

These arguments are verbatim of the Switch 1 reveal. As long as Nintendo has a steady flow of games this thing will keep selling.

We're also getting those niche titles like Tomadachi life and Rhythm heaven which more people are excited for than you would believe.

Nintendo has a lot on their plate and that's only what they've shown.

A new Zelda, new Mario, new Splatoon and a new Smash are definitely coming.

Launch window titles can be considered as launch titles. Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Prime 4 should count.

With that said, there is still no BOTW level title.

Xbox Series / PS5 launches were much more exciting. Capable gpus, SSDs, a lot of new features. Nintendo lives and dies by their games. So thats not a good look.

Literally this Switch 2 is just a repeat of Switch 1 launch day, just sub a new Zelda for a new Mario Kart. The new game prices suck though.

The last actually great console launches we got were the Dreamcast, original Xbox and PS2. Everything else afterward has come nowhere close, being mid at best, and usually reliant on 1 big new game at launch with hopefully another in the launch window.

It's already looking bad. Mario kart can't save the reality. It sure will sell but this thing is rightfully getting planned.

If Sony and Microsoft get hell for ports and crap then Nintendo said hold my beer with the same old Nintendo playbook and stupid pricing.
This gen is going to be the fuck around and find out gen especially with inflation, tariffs and a shitty economy.

We don't even know when Metroid Prime 4 is releasing, and since they held back from sharing the date, it probably won't be that soon after launch. Maybe even fall or holidays.

I suppose it subjective. I feel like the N64 launch was not stellar at all.

Mario 64 was revolutionary for video games. Mario Kart World is just the next iteration of Mario Kart, which we've had many times before. Comparing launches, 64 definitely had more weight behind it in Mario 64.

The launch line-up should've been much better for sure, I'm kind of surprised. But then again, Mario Kart is more than enough for me and everyone else to buy it, so.

Hell yea Mario 64 revolutionary. I think what I'm trying to say is it was pretty much the only game to have for a few months till something new came along. Wave Race, Killer Instinct, etc. I think the Switch 2 has a good enough launch games and its backwards compatibility fills whatever void is missing till something new comes along.

One thing, I don't know why
It's like Nintendo doesn't want to try
They lost their minds or ran out of time during pricing design
All I know, 80 bucks is a valuable thing
Games costing that much is sure gonna sting
Get home from work at the end of the day, but only one thing to play

It's so unreal, no 3D Mario?
Throw Zelda Phone GPS right out the window
No pack-in game, not a single thing to show
Other than a paid hardware demoooooo
I took the launch bundle inside, and then I cried, it's just Mario Kart.
Maybe eventually they'll release a new IP but for now

I bought the Switch 2 at launch,
And in the end, it didn't even matter.
I bought it all, even wheelchair basketball,
But in the end, it didn't even matter.

Subbing Zelda Botw for a new Mario Kart seems like a step down to me. And didn't Switch 1 have Mario odyssey too? Like in terms of IP is Mario Kart and Donkey Kong really on the level of a mainline Mario platformer and Zelda?

For me it's a great launch because I have been saving up switch 1 titles to play on this.

Mario kart world with my son
Zelda TOTK finish up for myself
Donkey Kong a month later
Start Xenoblade games franchise up at long last
Metroid prime sometime in the year

They definitely needed Metroid prime 4 on launch if you ask me.

I'm half-tempted to halt playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and Persona 5 Royal and waiting for that gorgeous 1080p 120fps HDR screen. Just TWO-ISH months!

Haha.

OT: Pithy Faith No More wannabes. Didn't even age well back then, and yet it has a billion+ streams. Damn millennials.

But the more I think about it, their software pricing is actually hilarious and borderline diabolical.
Their development cost are way lower than everyone else's. Lol.
That said, what's wrong with Nintendo for not taking that idea to its logical conclusion?
People will pay the same money for new games, period - it's about buying games that they don't already have.
They could easily bring back SNES as a secondary platform on Switch and have the world's lowest game dev costs.
New SNES games would take up almost no space, load instantly, have better gameplay than a lot of native Switch titles and take advantage of Nintendo's best gamepad.
A sub $200 online FGPA SNES console with 2GB of NVME could hold a ridiculous number of brand new 15MB SNES games.
Each of those tiny AAA SNES games could sell for the exact same price as an AAA Switch game.
Paying $60 for a new 15MB SNES game with zero load time is a better value than paying $60 for a new 30GB Switch game designed to look like an SNES game that has load times.

No it is not, your clearly forgetting the launch of.. Well shit, at least it has backwards compatibility, that does fuck all to improve the games =/

I thas Mario Kart, It's launching with Nintedo's best selling game on day 1...

vs

Are pleople going crazy?

I can't get over the pricing on their games. It's pretty much the reason to own the console, but i refuse to pay $80 for a new Mario Kart, where you will be doomed to pay for online every year. It's GAAS but you don't know it yet.

I was honestly surprised there was no Mario game announced. No I dont consider Mario kart a Mario game. My kid was disappointed too. I guess there's the Donkey Kong game, but thats like announcing a Clank game instead of Ratchet for the PS6.

They'll get me with Mario Kart World, looks too good to pass up on.

But I tend to agree. I think that's the only game I'll be getting with the system.

Was expecting there to at least be one or two more games I'd be getting at launch.

Me March 31st: "If Nintendo announces a new F-Zero I will have to buy a damn Switch 2."
Me April 2nd: "A fucking Kirby Racer? Oh thank god."

Imagine not knowing the power of Mario Kart.
This. It will sell gang busters and other publishers will be envious. 😂😂😂😂

Mario kart is a beast. I bet they sold more copies of MK than most publishers sell their games across multiple platforms. Even worse if the switch2 sells more than switch1. I bet it does too.

Mario Kart is the bigger seller, and you're getting upgraded ports of 2 previous Zelda like the Switch 1 got a port of Mario Kart.

Mario Odyssey came out like 6+ months after Switch 1 launch, and it looks like later in the year Switch 2 will have Metroid Prime 4, Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment are going to be their fall games.

What games are blowing you away right now for day one launch? That wheelchair game? Some ports of games that are over a year now?

I've been playing on Nintendo systems since I was a toddler and have every single system. It's okay to admit when a company does stupid crap. That's how they get better. Quit gobbling it all up.

You dont want to make your own franchis be forced to compete against that, which is why they are launching a new donkey kong the following month.
Are we going to pretend Donkey kong isn't a major Nintendo fanchise too?

Remake of a PS3 game and a demo is better than a new Mario Kart? Nah.
New mario? It's literally a spin off full of reused assests. I understand some of you love nintendo but c'mon let's be honest, this console has lore than one problem

This gen is going to be the fuck around and find out gen especially with inflation, tariffs and a shitty economy.
For children who can't budget and finance it will be tough. It's also easy to say the wind will blow either way when nothing is really happened. I don't give a shit about the tariffs when Nintendo is incompetent in their decision making and the games are what they are.

I understand the fans can sit there in their own little cubby and table and feel like the world according to them is perfect. But the reality is in this case, they had a pretty lackluster showing with the same types of games that the fans always talk over plus extra ports and last gen revisions which you may or may not have to pay for. And then you add bad pricing and slap in the face that you can't really defend. Talking about tariffs and bullshit is just the play card that I'm sure the Nintendo commission wants his fans to use as an excuse not to talk about the bad pricing.

I am not a big nintendo fan, but Mario Kart is easily one of the biggest titles in gaming history.
It's going to sell very well and it's a Mario kart and it actually is somewhat of an evolution just because it's open world but talk about hyperbole. Selling well doesn't take away from the reality of it being a bad launch and a subpar lineup of ports and things that we've already seen on top of the terrible pricing.
