Probably the best lineup for first party launch is

-BotW
-Mario Rabbids RPG
-Splatoon or Mario Kart
-Casual IP to show off Switch controls
-The Mario Sports game coming to 3DS
-New GC VC games (not really new)

That's a nice varied lineup from Nintendo. Third party will have their games and Nintendo will space out their games big games throughout the year to ensure no droughts.

What sort of timeframe is there on the 3D Mario game? How long can we assume it has been in the oven? I ask because I have never followed Nintendo's studios closely. I'm just now getting invested with the Switch coming. :p

I don't think we've heard any rumors about this, or is it just your educated guess?

The Mario Team hasn't released anything since Super Mario 3D World, so more than three years ago.

i agree, not sure about the casual ip at launch, i feel like we would've heard that from leakers by now. i think Zelda/Splatoon/Rabbids is enough for them in march.

Nico said it was coming to Switch.

Yeah I feel like the "casual IP" may just be Splatoon. I don't think Nintendo cares to make a Wii Sports/Nintendo Land type of game this time.

why?
That's something Nintendo would totally do.

Not really. Unless they can use the time for polish, a finished product spending time unreleased is lost sales opportunity, especially if you can promise would-be buyers of Switch that Mario is coming soon after launch.

And what examples can you give of Nintendo not releasing a finished product before?

Thats assuming its region locked ;)

Region lock is not something that bothers me, IP blocking is. And it is hard to believe that Switch will be region free, maybe consoles from Europe and US shares the same region, but I still expect the console to be region locked.

especially after Nintendoland and WiiSports U had barely any impact.
there is also no new gimmick to sell.

Captain Toad though?
they made those 2 NES remixes too.

Right there is no new gimmick. It's just a system you can play on tv or on the go. It has automatic 2 player gameplay if devs wants to add it in, but that's it. This is the best Nintendo

There's no way it's a 2018 game. I'm guessing either at launch like rumors have suggested or failing that it becomes a holiday title.

At E3 2016 Miyamoto said this:

"We're always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you'll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two," Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with IGN.

"Maybe next E3 we'll be able to share something."

I could imagine New Super Mario Bros. Switch at launch.

It's funny how before we wanted an amazing launch line-up.

Now we want just a good line-up.

The argument can go both ways, but it still funny in hindsight.

I don't think Mario is ready. personally

What could you possibly base this off of?

I counter with this: Miyamoto says a lot of bullshit.

Nintendo Switch Rumour Run Down 1/2/2017

WARNING:possible Spoilers

Laura Kate Dale (LetsPlayVideoGames):

Contrary to my past report on BOTW release date it is 100% coming at Switch launch in North America in March. Have seen finalised materials.
https://twitter.com/LaurakBuzz/status/815953975954604034

Mother 3 VC Switch Q2 2017. Will be announced Jan 12 event.
https://twitter.com/LaurakBuzz/status/815967520851116034

I'm still the only person talking about Rabbids Mario RPG, with Grant Kirkhope composing, something impossible to pull out my arse.
https://twitter.com/LaurakBuzz/status/815964572486172673

Liam Robertson (YouTuber, Did You Know Gaming, Unseen64, Nintendo Life contributor):

I will now step back from speculating on the Zelda situation. Sounds like it could go either way now. An internal battle at Nintendo.
https://twitter.com/Doctor_Cupcakes/status/815911620849369088

Much more interested in whether or not they'll announce Metroid in January or wait for E3 than anything else at this point.

Ryan Brown (Daily Mirror) :

£299.99 - £350 for a 'premium' Switch bundle is my expectations. Was hoping for £250 tops, but seems unlikely.

Emily Rogers (Freelance Journalist?):

You get some rumors right, some wrong.
I expect to be right on Mother 3, Mario Kart.
I expect to be wrong on Zelda. It's coming March in NA

@NWPlayer123
Load of garbage.
Mother 3 was localized months ago.
Rockstar had Wii U dev kits.
I was 1st person to report Paper Mario U.

Why do the Joy-Con have individual motion sensors? Just for Just Dance? No way.

Every one of the last few Nintendo systems has supported voice chat. The question is whether it's supported on an OS level or left entirely up to the individual game.

If the Switch does indeed have a capacitive multitouch screen, they need something that can mimic that functionality when you're using it on a TV. A pair of motion controllers is the most obvious solution.

It's a rumor roundup. Did you read rumor as "fact"?

I'm still confused why voice chat on Switch is being considered a big deal by some. Wii U had it. Voice chat is an obvious feature. Wii U voice chat was poorly implemented. It being vastly improved upon with Switch would be the real story. Not that it is there.

Someone catch me up on the latest gossip and drama surrounding this year's speculated releases and timetable?

I'll tell you what, those Wii U ports aren't very exciting if they aren't there for the launch window...

They really should have MK8 and Smash out ASAP, like MK8 for launch and Smash by summer. I guess they might have Melee, though.

God, it's going to be another agonizing drip feed of VC games, isn't it?

I really hope they don't have nothing but ports for the first few months, though.

Anything you can say about Metroid on Switch?

I think they are hyped for a group/party chart system.
