I think that Retro Studios's competences are wrongly estimated around here.

They have worked on Donkey Kong games plus helping Nintendo's other projects in the past 6 years. Part of the developers who worked on Metroid left long time ago. Their only HD game is a 2d platformer. I don't understand how under these circumstances and without having a big restructuring of the studio one could expect some huge projects from them like an AAA open world or something?

The Metroid Prime talents can be replaced. That said, I don't expect it to be a AAA open world game.
I just don't know what it is.

On a sidenote, I don't find it being AAA or not particularly interesting. I don't play marketing budgets.

Circle is concerned about the Switch because it supports Unity and Unreal Engine:
Do you hope to be active on the Nintendo Switch eShop? Can you tell us a little about your thoughts on the upcoming console?
Right now we are focusing on 3DS, Steam and PlayStation (probably VR); we tried to apply for a Switch license and Nintendo wants us to be patient. Personally I am a little bit worried about Switch (not the hardware), but I'm still willing to work on the platform.
If you want to know my worries, I have to say that if this platform can easily port the likes of Unity and Unreal, for gamers that's cool to see so many titles come out, but how can we make sure game quality will stay at a high level? Maybe some indies will port 5-10 titles in 2 months; it'll be hard for small developers to survive on the platform with such huge competition.

It totally makes sense to focus on Steam and Playstation where those things aren't supported then!

What do we all think the Switch's equivalent to Wii Sports or Nintendoland will be?

I'd like it to be kind of a free Animal Crossing, serving as the Switch's hub. "Hey I see you beat Double Dragon II on the Virtual Console, here's a poster of the game you can hang on your wall!" "Wow, you spent 100 hours on Super Splatoon? Here's this cool squid lamp to decorate your Switch Home with!"

The Metroid Prime talents can be replaced.

I think that's easier said than done. It has been what? 9 years since the last new Metroid by Retro? With nothing similar developed meanwhile? A lot of the know how would have been wasted and there was no reason to hire people specialised in that kind of games when they worked on DK.

Honestly I don't think we will see a Metroid game done by Retro because of this reason and Nintendo will use other studio for Metroid.

Don't believe it.

But it does remind me to play SMT: apocalypse
I kinda doubt his reports too in light of Laura apparently disowning his reports on Discord.

That said, SMT on the Switch shouldn't really be a surprise given SMTIV (regular & Apocalypse).

I didn't have time to look in the thread but I'm guessing this statement from Laura's rumor deep dive artivle posted today was already discussed:

"3D Mario day one was said by sources A and G at Nintendo Europe. I honestly at this point suspect it’s more likely BOTW is launching day one and Mario is being pushed back. I suspect there was some kind of internal issue with ZZelda making it look like it would miss launch. I suspect that got sorted, and with it ready for launch Mario was pushed back to spread out launch line up."

Just further indication we're back on the day one Zelda train.

Admittingly, I also don't know. Lets just see.

Yeah, she also said that source G is likely fake, since it has shown to her not to care about being discovered (she can tell, apparently). So, she has one reliable source saying 3D mario day one and Zelda June, while another claims Zelda day one. It could go either way right now, though Laura has put her eggs in the basket of a Zelda launch.

Gotcha, thank you! I also just read this in that article:

"Splatoon pack in was Source A and source at GAME. I still believe it’s a day one release. I know others do not believe it is a pack in, but I believe at the very least at GAME there will be a package with Splatoon packed in."

Sounds like Splatoon could be less a formal pack-in and more of a store bundle.

I was gettin' pretty excited for a new 3D Mario in March. Now that Zelda's likely a day one release, I hope Mario isn't being pushed to November. C'mon Nintendo, Super Mario Galaxy 2 in May sold great! Let's do a repeat.
