All the Switch does is combine the worst of both worlds. Expensive, cumbersome handheld with $60 games. I don't see how this is expected to succeed. Maybe a price drop and a new pokemon title in a couple years can save it but they really set it up for failure initially.

I am not feeling good about this. Switch has the potential to do to Nintendo's handheld sales what Wii U did to their console sales.

I honestly think it would've been better to have separate console/handheld hardware that each play the same game cartridges. Each could be say ~$199. The console could be a Shield TV-like device, the handheld something in a 3DS XL sized package.

As it is, it's the worst of both worlds.

I'm so disappointed.

This thing's going to be red hot! I told my wife and oldest daughter that preorders go up this morning and so they're going to head to Best Buy/GameStop this morning.

Now I have to text them to make sure they don't waste their time running out early to preorder a Switch. First off the price is well above the expected $249. At $300 I expected a game. The launch lineup is lousy. Not a single big Nintendo (or third party) name in there, and the next month is a port of Mariokart 8?? Mario doesn't even hit until the holidays??!!!

And they're following in Microsoft's and Sony's footsteps with paid online? Nintendo, the company whose fans proclaimed did online gaming right by keeping it free has gone to the dark side. One free NES or SNES game trial per month? Oh dear lol.

Unless Nintendo keeps quantities low, this will be another Wii U situation. You'll be able to walk into stores at launch to buy one if you choose, because the casuals aren't going to show up. No Mario at launch. I'm still surprised.

I'd be awfully pissed at myself if I sold/traded my Wii U to buy a Switch. Until Switch becomes a worthwhile purchase, I'll stick with the system that plays Mariokart 8 and Splatoon for free.

I really don't get this mentality of getting this hyped up for a console before the actual presentation, to the point where the decision to preorder is already done. Feels like intentionally setting one self up for disappointment.

Chill, let the console get released, let a few game get out, and make a decision then?

For the hardware and no pack in game $300 is way too much. I'll wait till I can snag one for $250 with a game. Not to mention the battery life is disappointing. I still haven't purchased a Wii U because I waited around for a price drop that never came. I'll probably end up picking up a used one to play the dozen or so games I'm interested in. Gotta get my Bayonetta fix.

The price itself is slightly disappointing but that battery life might be a non starter. Need some real world feedback before taking the plunge. Also the price of accessories is freaken insane.

Nintendo couldn't get it more wrong. They utterly out of touch.

The only positive is that the Wii u should come down in price and I can finally pick one up for my kids.

250 was clearly an appropriate price for the 3ds.

But really, they're playing from behind and need to be competitive. Last night they just showed they're stubborn.
Nothing about the switch screams 250 to me. Anemic launch lineup for sure.

It was a very unrealistic hope.

Alright I might tap out at $435 AUD. Ain't worth that when I just traded in an Xbox One and paid the difference on a slim and still came under that cost. I want Zelda, but not at that premium.

My hype plummeted throughout the conference.

Pricing is terrible, launch line up is lackluster.

I want the console, but I will wait for both issues to improve.

Do they not teach basic economics in Japanese business school? I just can't fathom how upper management at a large corporation could make so many terrible decisions for so long. Ugh. I want to play that Mario, but I won't.

Nintendo is so out of touch.Their consoles are always overpriced and underpowered. Not to mention their games always cost $60 and they almost never drop in price.I'll pass on the Switch, unless they drop the price by $150 or more.

Good god $469 Australian?

I was in for a reasonable price point but this is rough,

PS4 and Xbox bundles are at a similar price point with pack in games, a developed library, better hardware, third party support...

Still baffled people expected 250. The system has issues but price isn't one of them.

250 was the launch 3ds and that tech was horrible.

Too many drinking the rumor koolaid.

250 (+game) was the launch Wii and it worked great
Here it's the most expensive Nintendo console alongside Wii U (read that in the paper)
And we are in a super competitive environment

The fact that so many people are complaining shows you that it is an issue for people

Its unrealistic only because we understand nintendos business decision, but not unrealistic when based against the competition and hardware.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Paying $300, full $60 game prices, AND having to pay for a third-place online service to enjoy a bit of Splatoon and inevitable Monster Hunter is waaaaaay too much investment for this guy.

Not to even mention that first competitively priced revision will make early adopters feel even more burned.

I give it less than a year before they shut down the Wii U online game servers to try and force people to buy the Switch like they did with Wii -> Wii U.

The only 2 reason why i am buying at launch is because

1. I dont have a wii-u to play zelda on
2. I have $275 in gamestop credit i need to get rid of.

The product itself isnt enticing and im just forcing myself to get one based on a few personal circumstances.

I guess the hope is we get a price cut this year, Zelda carries it, they reverse & keep online free (pay for voice chat/Nintendo+) & we get some more ports for Holiday 2017 now that dev kits should start being widely available.

This thing needs Monster Hunter & Call of Duty.

That Mario game is the only one I want to play. I could pass or at least wait on the Zelda game.

But I have ZERO confidence Mario will meet the Holiday 2017 release target date. So might as wait a year or something to scoop up a cheaper Switch with Mario Odyssey. And a deeply discounted post bomba $20 copy of Zelda BoTW.

Well there's the value versus price angle.

Paid online plus poor launch lineup colors a lot of this.

It's not a great winning gamers back to Nintendo moment.

It's gonna be the 3DS all over again. $250 would have been too high, $300 is absolutely bonkers.

Will the Switch have some kind of system wide trophy / achievement system, btw?

Others have asked but there's been no word on it.

I know some don't want it but it should be included because others DO want it and it's really easy to implement.

I just can't see any way this thing doesn't have a horrible 2017 in terms of sales after the launch. What software is driving it?

How is something like Skyrim not a launch title?

I've gone from about as locked in a sale as you could get to waiting for a price drop because there's literally one title in the first six months I'm interested in and I can get it on the console I already own.

How have they not announced a more robust Virtual Console?

If it had Zelda, Skyrim, NBA2K17 and a good VC launch line up with some GameCube games I'd have bought the thing.

I was hopefull, but everything about this sounds awful. I'm gaming less and less these days and already have a ps4. No reason for me to get this at all.

High price, plus Nintendo games stay very expensive too. Add to that the extremely long write up of what it actually is and the proprietary language (Joy Con) and I feel like we have another Wii U on our hands....

Personally I get what it's about and think it's cool, but I'm still going to wait until a couple years later to buy one. Not enticed enough by the few games announced.

Don't think so. I got very little faith in Nintendo consoles anymore and everything shown about this one hasn't made me feel differently.

After buying all Nintendo console's on launch day, the switch will be the first one that i'm gona skip.

You failed again Nintendo, sad to see you going this direction.

games looked so unfinished and lackluster, i can barely see any difference with wii u games on the graphics side.

That mario game, wow Nintendo, why not a giant mushroom kingdom world instead of this shit.

When i saw mario jumping ropes with a black female and a white one in office clothes i lost all hope in YOU NINTENDO!!!

;(

The console itself looks really cool and super interesting but I have a PS4 and enough games to play already that justifying this price point and purchase just to play Zelda and Mario is crazy.

I might grab it a couple of years down the line but currently this makes no sense for me and between my laptop and my PS4 I'm covered and paying this much just for Nintendo isn't for me right now.

It still looks like a fun device for sure and people whose primary console is Nintendo will be in for a treat I think.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Wonder since it has usb C charging if it will use the new Mac chargers, got my house set up with them already so wouldn't have to set up any charging stations (prob never hook this thing into a tv).

Price is steep, but... I got a job that pays and I bought Xbone on Day one so...
Was going to day one too this but I still don't trust them on making the game a real region-free. I'll maybe day two if by all accounts I can play Japanese Zelda on my Euro Switch.
Otherwise, no Switch for me.
There's literally nothing to play outside of Zelda, even though watching Arms demo kinda gave me the fuzzy feeling I got first time I saw Splatoon. Couldn't care less about every single other game in its line-up, outside of Xenoblade 2 which I guessed immediately once the Monolith logo popped-up. No launch is a bit discouraging but, hey, IT'S CEL-SHADED! which to me makes Xeno 2 as good as it gets.
300 is a bit suicidal even for them, considering the console comes with no game and a "real" controller, but unless they push Wii-U Breath of Wild later in 2017 to get people to the Switch version, Zelda is definitely going to put in the numbers.
I really hope the region-free is for real, especially if it will extend to the virtual console games.

That NZ price is just... Wow. Do they really want to price the console $100 above the PS4/XBOX ONE? You can almost buy a Pro for that price.

What exactly sounds awful?

With less time handhelds are nice. Especially being able to connect to TV and if a family member needs the TV you can grab it and continue to game. Even if the Switch isn't for you maybe the Vita would be. Handhelds are excellent for people with busy lives, IMO.

the price doesn't matter. They don't have enough systems to sell so the price can be high for those who really wants it (like me). As soon when they can manufacturer more switches, the price will go down and enough the games will be on the market

Is that a sudden weird racial turn at the end or are you just being literal and talking about Mario interacting with realistic humans?

Yea, they should be able to offer some good bundles and deals during the first holidays.

For something that's really easy to implement, Nintendo sure seems to be having a heck of a lot of trouble with the idea.
