I've had a few favorite planets stay kinda similar, but I think it's just luck... By and large I checked maybe 20 planets yesterday that I know by heart, and that all have new names and different biomes. A few are the same biome, but I think that's just luck (with only a few options a few desert planets are bound to get reset as desert planets haha). A lot of my faves are so much different. Starter planet and my 2nd planet (my first base for a long time) were both snow and now they're both fire lol. My last home planet (1.3) is still a moon, but it went from an airless red moon that still had a higher atmosphere to a super low atmosphere/low gravity moon with almost no light -- was able to stay there between 1.2 to 1.3 cuz it mostly was still the same desert moon (just lost flora and fauna) but as of 1.5 gotta abandon it I guess... absolutely nothing there now, looks like the earth's moon lol.
As for landing on frigates, I don't think there's anything to do inside. I think the landing pad is there cuz when I land on owned frigates, they give me money or free items.
If it is I can’t access it, from what I’ve read you have to find a habitable base to recover them which I can’t seem to locate. If there’s another way let me know.
That was my starting planet as well. I spawned into a radioactive storm with with super aggressive sentinels. It was a beautiful planet though so I really enjoyed the view from inside my cockpit.
My second planet in system is amazingly beautiful, I will post some screens later. It's also a very bust planet, with roaming herds, particle effects, birds, tall trees, etc., so it is a bit framey unfortunately.
Just delved in for a quick look-see with a new save. They've definitely changed things up a lot since the last update. Lack of ship in the opening was a bit of a 'is this bugged?' moment. I would say though albeit I can appreciate that, that makes it a bit more of a challenge early on, that's a crapshoot scenario for any new player who ends up spawning on a heavily toxic planet like I did. Anyway from what I saw, very promising. I will give it more time tomorrow though I'll probably restart until I find a less toxic world as I can do without the urgency of failing shields and life support whilst getting a handle on al the changes.

From my own experience the crazy conditions I started in were an amazing way to start the game. I literally fought for survival every second from starting the game till finally getting my spaceship going.
The very next planet I visited was a water world with beautiful giant fauna and giant creatures. The trees on the world were bigger than I ever expected any trees to be. It was exactly the experience I was hoping for a long time ago with No Mans Sky.
well my other 5 starships finally appeared ... but they look a lot different :O
on the plus side, all the stats and storage inventory size appear the same; I assume that means resale is okay, too. they look awful now though ;/
thankfully my 'perfect spec' cargo container ship was wholly unchanged, and maybe because it was my primary ship when the game patched.
but the other 5 that were stored on my freighter all underwent changes.. my other 3 'perfect spec' fuel tank haulers (the best long tails with both tail wings and tail jets, and either wings or chevrons on the fuel tanks) turned into these ugly AF 'gooseneck' haulers, two with these weird small propulsion wings and the third one with no wings -_-
my legacy starter combat fighter at least mostly stayed the same tho.... even looks cooler now ... it always looked cool because it has this primary off-white/orange secondary details color spec like the default base colour ... but now instead of the default shiny one, it's that same colour but a little rusty! looks neat... body is entirely the same two but it lost its little wings
my legacy 'starter hauler' turned into one of those little stubby haulers with no wings too =( lost the 'box cargo' nose and box cargo wings
(before and after)
these...
turned into these lol
and my legacy cargo hauler -- my first ever hauler too~
into this little wingless stubby thing
kinda funny, actually... they changed so much that I didn't recognize them when they finally spawned in my freighter...
I was already up in my freighter and I began some base building inside and ran out of materials, so I was coming out of the bridge because I needed silver, so I quickly ran over to an NPC ship and click on it to see if it had any buy...
and I jumped inside lol
all my ships were back and all my haulers were changed so much so that I didn't recognize them when I landed in the freighter, not as I ran by to the bridge, or not even as I ran up to 'buy' from one lol
but considering I've read some people seem to have had their old starships change Class rank or worse, and I mostly just used those extra haulers as C Class storage space -- and my perfect S Class was unchanged -- guess it's okay and at least it wasn't worse
I read you need to find an old-style Habitable Base and use that 'old base parts' terminal that those old bases had... but I've never seen one... I've used a buildable 'scanner' too and found some outposts and such, but never seen any Habitable Bases yet (not even sure if they exist or if ppl just theorizing... not much confirmation on reddit about this)
at the very least, my old Freighter base also seems to be lost -- definitely no 'recover old base' option there. but i'm holding out hope from my old planet base yet
Here's what I noticed right off the bat from loading my Creative Mode save. My S Class hauler has virtually no hyperspace range, whereas before I could jump approx 900 light years at a time. WTF?

yeah, the tech parts got changed... before we just had the 3 upgrades that gave us access to blue/green/red stars and improved warp range.... now those 2 things have been split into seperate parts. if you had the previous part, you get the new item that gives you access to different star system types rather than the warp range one.
my S Class Hauler same thing as yours, down to ~130 LYs or so... and same with my S Class Freighter, from 699 LYs down to also ~130 LYs.
This game has me by the nuts, and I love it. After about 5 hours on a new start, I know I haven't even scratched the surface of what NMS now has to offer, but holy crap am I excited to find out.
Added a tutorial mission to guide players through the restoration of their old base
Fixed an issue where S-Class ships changed appearance
Fixed an issue where players were unable to build the Base Cache on their freighter to retrieve compensation for the loss of their freighter base
Sounds like only recovering Freighter Bases is bugged, while it seems to suggest recovering Planet Bases just needs a Tutorial... So, I'm guessing the Habitable Base thing (finding an old style base that has a Base Cache) may currently be functioning ... Gonna try find out tonight to confirm.
Also, I'm guessing the 'ships with changed appearances' may not be retroactive: they probably got regenerated upon loading, and also based on how other bug fixes in these notes state they won't be retroactive (e.g. missing out on Nanites from tech deconstruction).
So, if you got a S Class ship you reeeeally love... and haven't loaded it/summoned it yet... maybe avoid doing so until the next patch, just in case it 'spawns' with a changed appearance. Hope I'm wrong though... But my guess is that once you patch the game/load your ship, at that moment the game probably 'reseeds' the ship generation when it loads... So the hotfix may stop ships from reseeding and changing appearance, but maybe they won't still have any data on the old appearance (thus no retroactive change back to original appearance). Hope I'm wrong though, as I'd love to get my fuel tankers back haha.
Try turning off texture streaming in the config file. If you have a cpu with more than 4 cores and 8 threads, change this in the config file aswell. This gave me a good uplift in performance and stability.

Dudes, for those who are experiencing crashes I have a permanent fix for this. Go into your PS4 settings and change your time zone to eastern standard US. Apparently there is a bug that is stuck in a autosave loop that causes the crashing. Changing the time zone setting fixes this.

I ran around for a bit before I realized this as well (since I hadn't played since the PC version launch). On the X1X version at the start I believe I grabbed it from one of the crashed items near your ship, then you press up on the D-Pad and build the Signal booster and decode it.
I played 2 hours of co-op, me and my friend both made new files. I had 3 crashes and he had one. We stayed together the entire time, but we each had our own storms that the other person wouldn't see/experience. Also, we couldn't see each others names for things, which I really think must be a bug because what kind of omission would that be... The original selling point of the game was that you can go around naming things in the universe, so why can't my co-op partner standing right next to me see that I renamed all the tress?
A lot of nice new things since last I played, will be playing some more but hopefully they have some fixes on the way.

I’m playing an already started game. But I figured it out. It looks like the system I was in didn’t even have any, had to warp to another system just to get some.

Man from what people are saying and streaming, seems to be crashing often on consoles. I crashed once on PC in 5 hours and that was when changing graphics settings.
Go to the steam directory and there is two folders, one called binaries and one called game data. Go into binaries, then the settings folder, and the file is called "TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS". Open this with wordpad and look for two lines that say "NumHightThread" and "NumLowThreads", with the high thread being how many threads your cpu has and low threads being how many cores it has. For me, with a Ryzen 1700x, high thread was 16 and low was 8. This improved gpu utilization for me, however if you already have a 4 core, 8 thread, it probably won't make much difference.
Below that, there is an option called "TextureStreamingEx", which is set to Auto normally. I set this to off, which disables texture streaming and most people have reported this improves performance. Hope this helps!

No option currently to restore old bases from the Base Computer. Just rename base, upload base, delete base. I have read that its requires you finding a Base Computer in the wild rather than one you build. Hope this is a bug.

Clicking on Abandon Mission at the mission NPC in a Space Station seems to crash the game...
Happened to me three times now, the last time was me reproducing the glitch. Double-checked my stream, too, and it was definitely this NPC -- some folks on Reddit confirm, too.
Also, I think the game has a memory leak, maybe related to large frigate fleets at freighters... Yesterday on 2 occasions (cuz the game ending up crashing), my frame over about 20-30 minutes in a space station or freighter, my frame rate continually got worse until it was <10.... and then finally the game locked up and crashed. I didn't get it the first day though and my only guess is that it was because I parked my freighter right beside a space station, and then just had so many frigates (36) and also so many NPC ships flying in that it caused a memory leak.... Quiting the game and reloading my save fixes it though.
Sometimes you can find it just around space stations... one of the objects on tables gives navigational data. I've got 7 or 8 so far cuz I've been hoarding, and I seem to just randomly get them from 'containers' or maybe random NPC conversations... I forget ...Definitely from those containers in Space Stations though.
I've checked every conceivable place on the freighter and the frigate ship and I just can't see how I use them or why I use them. I've sent my frigate out on a mission and that mission just returned with convex cubes and a couple of other goodies, but I never used frigate fuel. I look at the frigate stats and it tells me what frigate fuel is required ...

I figured it out, I was in a Gek system and had absolutely zero of the navigational data cubes in the entire system. None in the space station, no traders, no NPC building, loot boxes, nothing.
I spent several hours searching everywhere in the entire system, warped to a Korvax system and they're just laying around everywhere on tables and such.
I think there is a higher drop rate depending on the system species.
None of this matter anyway because I still can't find a wild habitable base. Maybe if I hadn't spend so much time looking for the navigation data only to find out they were in another system, I wouldn't be too burnt out to look for bases now.
Just for context on why this is so imperative for me to find, I dropped almost 100 hours in here and most of that was farming.
My base was a basically a giant farm where I was making several Million units an hour and I don't want to have to rebuild that from scratch just because I decided to continue playing the game. I've already dropped a ton of hours into this and still haven't gotten my base back yet.
Yeah, I've just been told on Reddit. I suppose it's just that I've used to refuelling and assumed it was along those lines. It's just to 'enable' the mission rather than fuel the mission. Perhaps they should have called it something else? 'Frigate chit'? 'Frigate orders'?

Yeah, same for me... My old base had...11 Biodomes, I think... fully planted for Living Glass... and I think 16 or 17 Automated Mining Units (cost soo many batteries and solanium haha). Freighter base had like 20 or something of those planters, too, for Liquid Explosives. 1 Living Glass was selling, what, usually about 1.01 or 1.1m units before so a full biodome base I guess plus plants must be worth at least 30 million units. Took me forever to build >15 Automated Mining Units, too ... they required soooo much Cave Marrow and that's the one 'time bottleneck' I couldn't streamline -- had to still do old fashion spelunking.
For what it's worth, people on Reddit also saying old-style Habitable Bases are very rare. Haven't even seen an actual pic or vid of one yet in 1.5 but seems a lot of people talking about it. I'm dead set to try find one today so if I can personally confirm I'll post about it haha (and the results of my Old Base Cache recovery hhh).

Mmmm, I think "Fuel" still makes sense because the amount of fuel scales based on the LYs traveled, the size and 'milage' of the ship, and also the # of support ships in the deployment fleet.
And in terms of RP, I guess the reason that take it all 'at the start' is because they need it with them... They can't just call you mid-mission and say "please energy recharge" ... You gotta send the full 100 or 250 fuel with them at the start.
I would guess that the reason you were probably able to send your first Deployment 'without crafting Freighter Fuel' is because I think the game gives you 1 free unit when you first build and use the command terminal. You may not have realized it.
I really hope they fix the launch day savegames (from 2016) for NEXT. I lack most of the new receipts (blueprint analyzer, the fuel receipt for frigates etc). Ontop of that warp drives (both ship and freighter) are heavily bugged: when you refill them they still show as empty when in the galactic map. Thank god the save game editor is already updated for NEXT or we'd be stuck on a lame system until they fix it.
Other than that, a friend and I took the plunge and flew through a black hole. We were greeted by a blue system that's at war, landed on a flourishing planet that reminds me of the E3 2014 planet with loads of useful resources. Think we'll stay there for a while and build bases. MP changes everything.
^About the fuel receipt... You sound like you know the game well so maybe you know this, too (and it's still bugged)...
But just in case you made a similar honest mistake as me: you don't get the recipe until after you've built and used the Fleet Command Room at least once.
I actually was confused for a while because I built the command room and went back to deploy Expeditions, and brought the menu up and then noticed I had no fuel. I didn't know what or how to get it, or even what it was called... it just looks like that red canister. I wasn't sure if it saying "frigate fuel" meant the actual item name was 'Frigate Fuel.' I had no idea what it was and saw no item named Frigate Fuel... there is Freighter Fuel but it's got a different graphic, and the only item had the same red energy canister was Fusion Accelerant ... so, I was getting ready to craft those!
Then, after 30m or so, I randomly click on the terminal in the Fleet Command Room and it says 'syncing to new commander' and it gave me the recipes for Frigate Fuel (there's three sizes) and I think also a free one o.0
Silly... Not sure why I didn't try use it right away. I just built it and returned the frigate deployment captain, I guess, and figured since it brought up the expedition menu, there's where the commanding was done.
Are you fucking kidding? I thought I would give no mans sky the benefit of the doubt and give it another chance. I put in 12 hours of grinding last night and bought a S rank ship, A rank gun with mods and built a base. I was pretty excited to get back into it this morning only to find out MY SAVE HAS BEEN ERASED! and I have lost 10 hours of progress!
How are people letting this slide? Did this game not pass QA? This shit is unacceptable.
1. Systems are still mediocre. I understand why planets have to be so close together (the bigger the planets, the fewer of them there are. Really big planets are typically 1 planet per star system, all to do with performance). Also lack of biomes. Now planets can have two biomes if they have surface water, but this is still lame.
How to fix; make the planets much smaller, but more varied, and more numerous, and more separated. Keep performance and procedural generation demands within boundaries, make things more interesting. Also make top speed of ship much higher in space to account for greater distances.
2. Asteroid fields spawn every few seconds in space, completely ruining immersion (just to get fuel so you don't become stranded).
How to fix; overhaul the fueling system so getting stranded in the void between planets isn't possible. Enough with the asteroids.
3.

Is anyone else having problems finishing any of the photo missions? It doesn't matter how many times I've taken pictures of an animal, it still doesn't register. I'm wondering if it's got something to do with the settings on the PS4. I have mine set so I can just press once for a photo and that's not the default setting. Perhaps Hello Games aren't aware of this setting?

I think I‘ve interacted at least 10 times each with the officer in my control room and the computer in the fleet room, no receipt so far. My friend has the same issue.
Debating using a savegame editor to unlock the receipt because I have 10 frigates now and can‘t do anything with them.
That being said they are all stuck in some kind of preparation loop? I landed on a few and their captain told me they‘re soon ready, just fixing a few things. And the frigate room computer only gives me a leave option.
Really bummed out that existing savegames always break with their big patches... it‘s like you are being punished for believing in their vision by pre-ordering and always returning for the updates.
Sad to see that the last patch did not solve any of my issues.

Wait, are you using the share button? The game has a photo mode you can access by pressing down on your dpad. Thats the type of photo you have to take.
I had an issue with the game where my gpu usage was constantly low, so I tried the experimental patch on steam and, whilst not fixed, it is a lot better and quite playable. There is apparently a memory leak in the current build of the game that is effecting performance.
I started playing Next yesterday and continued my old save. My Analysis Visor broke while I was playing. It needed some kind of nanotubes but I don't know how to get them. I have tried to buy them but no one doesn't have them. No one sells the blueprint either. I have PS4 version.

Yes, and that's how you take pictures in Photo Mode. Photo mode is my thing. I just wonder if Hello Games are aware you can change how you use it. I've got mine reconfigured for just one press of the 'share' button and I'm wondering if it's not configured for that. I sent a twitter to them but I doubt they'll answer:
So I’m debating whether to wait until the hot fix comes out for PS4 before continuing. I need my save game file to be ok and it’s been good so far but I’m not sure I want to risk it.

I'd say wait. I've been talking to someone one hasn't had any problems whatsoever but it's not worth the risk. There have been so many changes to the base game and the structure, it's difficult to decide whether you've hit a bug or whether this is the way it's designed now. For instance, my first terminal for my base building quest was the science terminal but it's usually the Overseer. I am not getting the 'recruit scientist' quest and I've now returned to update the database at my base twice and only got the message to wait another 1 hour and a half. It just doesn't feel right to me.
