Just to let you guys know, it seems like the Extreme Survival milestone is kinda buggy.

I was on this Extreme Survival planet and I was getting it done, then it stopped counting. After a while of searching for the last species, it started counting again.

I left the planet to do the other planets, and came back to finish off the milestone, but now it's not counting again. I even went to the same exact location (around a trading post that was marked) and it didn't count.

Anyway, 15 min = 1 sol, so you should see some progress in you start menu. Looks like I'm gonna have to find another Extreme Survival planet.

Played my first hour. Accidentally named a space station 'Ca' thinking I could go back and leave the name that was generated for it, haha.

So far, it's ok. With no real goal, I think I'll try to get the Platinum for it. The controls feel heavy. I'm playing pre-patch so I'm not sure if it has been improved. Hopefully more time will ease me better.

What happens when you get a -1 for interaction with an alien species? Should I try to learn as many words before talking to more?

I'm going to start working on a PC Perf Thread for the PC peeps ^_^

Guess I missed this warning, why not?

Apparently (from what I understand) you can only hold 3 waypoints at a time, if you go into a black hole you wont be able to set any more, and in order to get rid of the 3 you currently have you need to actually visit each waypoint.

So lets say you take a black hole that puts you many light years away... it could be a huge pain and potentially game breaking bug.

I can't scan small birds for shit
Did you try zooming in? Zooming in during scan was also a revelation to me after restarting the game yesterday.

Anyways we can adjust the edges of the screen? Options are lacking severally.

I need that temperature to read F
I need subtitles and I need to adjust the display.

Maxed out exosuit inventory!

Also yeah this Extreme Survival milestone seems buggy as fuck.

Edit: I'm cowering in an Upgrade Pod and it's ticking over the survival milestone. Cool!

So. After spending two long sessions with the game... I don't know, I'm really not feeling it. At the second planet I'm already finding the gameplay quite repetitive, and the inventory system just sucks so bad. With other games I usually don't mind the constant managing but some of the decisions made here are just so annoying.

Like, Why do the upgrades use space from your inventory? Why can you transfer items from the exosuit to your ship from any distance, but if you try to do it the other way it doesn't work because your ship is "out of range"?. It's just dumb.

Also, despite the fact that you can explore an entire galaxy I still feel like I've hit a massive wall that prevents me from advancing.

1) There are many closed doors and items that require an Atlas Pass for access. But I don't have a single clue about how to get one.

2)I was looking into buying another ship but they are so goddamm expensive. What are some good ways to earn units ?

3)I tried jumping to another star system but now I can't find my way back to my original system?

Help me GAF. I don't want to give up on the game because there are a lot of things that I like about it too. The audiovisual design is great and some mechanics like learning alien languages and trying to negociate while only knowing part of the dialogues are really cool.

Also, maybe I'll just try to restrict the length of my game sessions to avoid the sense of tedium.

Just got en email from GOG.com that my DLC has been purchased (0.00€) and the files also seem to be up now (just not downloadable).

You better be done in 5 hours or else...

I'll be just waiting till you're done. Thx for the work.

So I need some iridium to make a bolt caster. Any tips to what I'm looking for to harvest?

I discovered that most of those giant circular stone formations that stick up or loop out of the ground have been iridium, for me at least. Iridium seems to be dark and shiny, similar to heradium but with red hues instead of blue.

Hi GAF hoping someone can help me with a concern I have.

In the beginning when I started, I never went to that pod next to my starter ship and accepted the Atlas path. I got too distracted with my first planet collecting resources and such I completely forgot to go back and now that planet is mostly lost to the cosmos.

(Below are beginning of the game's very, very early spoilers but tagged I think where appropriate, apologies if not)
However, when I hyper-jumped twice within the orange/yellow line to the galactic core, I got the alien monolith alert and then I found the Atlas monolith and when I accepted it, which shot the beam upwards, setting a waypoint to
a disturbance
. After I do all that, will it allow me to continue the path for Atlas path or is that what the orange/yellow path is?

Shall I continue going to the
__disturbance
and that'll continue the path of the Atlas...?

Edit: I may have got some terminology mixed up, but essentially where I'm at now is that I'm following a waypoint set after visiting the Atlas monolith and accepting it and I'm 1 system away from getting whatever's there.

Listening to the Beastcast while playing. And their take on the game and the whole multiplayer shebang is what I expect from this site. Thoughtful and balanced and not just using hyperbole or your usual hot takes. Youtube style"journalism" is a joke and has infested many "traditional" sites to their detriment.,, but I'm glad there are still reasonable voices out there

Props to the Giant Bomb crew!

edit: This is me right now unfortunately:

Come back Zinc!

I think I'm in the boat of how to get back to your starter system.

I was expecting to warp back, but it's not directly connected to the second system I visited.

Really not liking the ship combat, Seems enemy ships move way faster than mine and I can't keep up with targeting, plus there's always 3-5 vs 1.

Iridium to repair Warp Reactor.

Where to find or buy ? I think I better just buy another ship at this point
Iridium is the hardest to find mineral. I only found a source once but I didn't keep a supply on hand. Now I've got a Warp Reactor upgrade sitting there waiting on 200 Iridium. I'm just going to keep going forward and trying to find some.

But yeah if your warp reactor is busted and none of the planets or asteroids in your system have any and none of the traders are selling any, you'll have to get a new ship.

Mentioned earlier in the thread, but check out the asteroids in space. Find a large one and sometimes it's composed of iron, but less frequently, iridium. :D

So I reached the point where
I found an anomaly and the map points me to go to an Atlast Station
and wtf, it makes me backtrack a couple os system and then go to some more.

How in the fuck I'm supposed to go there? If I backtrack I'll not have enough hyperdrive :/

Large asteroids can be composed of Iron, Copper, Emeril, Nickel, Iridium, and a few other base minerals. Its not guaranteed that you'll find an Iridium asteroid.

Also found the Suspension Fluid formula! Now if I wanted I could fast track to the center.

How did you find the formula?! I'm tired of buying it from traders

I want to be a bounty hunter. Can I hijack random ships leaving space stations? And will I get their entire inventory?

Asking again

I believe bounty hunter quests come up later on? I haven't got that far so I can't confirm. You can attack any ships. I think you get a bunch of random resources if you kill them. You can raid the giant freighters, too.

Oh, you're talking about antimatter etc. For fueling? Yeah, you need those recipes.
Nah, like I want to go deeper in the universe but it says I need an upgraded hyperdrive.

Those doors are only accessible if you follow a certain path. Imagine that?
The game doesn't tell you that though. That's the problem. You're left to figuring that out or going on the Internet.

I've found plenty of iridium on planets in arch-like formations. Also, while it's found in some asteroids, it's easier to identify in space as a reddish-blue spiky thing floating around-- a few systems I've been to have had these spiked crystal balls floating, and they've always been iridium.

The bigger problem is that it barely gives you any while mining, regardless its form.

I got Hyperdrive Tau and Sigma upgrades from random Outposts, Manufacturing Facilities on planets.

The loot seems to be RNG. Sometimes I get repeated blueprints, sometimes I get something new.

An abandoned factory randomly.

Also if you have the Atlas Pass v1 open the containers you find locked with that pass. It'll always have a component for warp cells.

Crap how do I get an Atlas Pass v1?

I need to destroy others.

So, without spoiling anything, when you reach the center of the universe does the game just stop or can you continue to explore?

Have sunk some more time into this. Its got flaws, but I'm really enjoying it! I've found the general gameplay loop of explore > loot > upgrade to be hypnotically compelling.

I'm only into my second system, but the exploration and sense of finding stuff is really good. I still get a tingle whenever I head towards an undiscovered planet. Most of the planets in my starting system were barren 'dead' affairs, mostly bare rock interspersed with towering pillars of gold. Each one has a beautiful quality to it, despite the simplistic nature of the graphics. Some of the vistas are just pure sci fi and I love it.

I've been admiring the ships in the space station, lusting after them but I don't have nearly enough bucks to indulge, so thats my next objective; either find a crashed one and repair it or save up enough for something better. Looking like I'll need around 500k to make a sensible upgrade.

For ease then:

Good

  • Art Style. Spot on, super colourful, vibrant sci fi. The individual assets aren't that great when you look, but put the whole lot together and its all very cohesive.
  • The planets. Even the dull ones have something of interest on them. I was on a barren moon and stumbled into a ravine of glowing pink columns. It was quite a view.
  • The sense of exploration and discovery, it still tickles me to wonder whats over that hill, over the horizon, what the next planet will be like etc
  • The crafting and inventory management is right up my street. Present enough to need considering, but honestly I haven't found it too intrusive. It could perhaps do with some tweaking here and there (reduce the amount of fuel used to take off for example), but generally its been an enjoyable part of the game for me.
  • Performance seems solid so far. The load in of assets is mildly distracting but not too bad. Framerate has been rock solid so far.

Less Good
  • The sentinels are a bit....odd? Annoying? I suppose their purpose is to force the player to progress, to not stomp around in one little area hoarding every resource they come across, but they are a bit frustrating at times
  • The shooting is a bit lackluster. I know the game isn't intended for that, but I have a real job trying to shoot anything moving for some reason.
  • It has crashed once so far.
  • Servers are a bit flaky. Half the time I'm not connected, which I know isn't required, but I do like to know my discoveries are being uploaded

I can see the whole design ethos of 'pushing forward' - its in the limited starting inventory, the sentinels etc. If you play the game like that, just accept that its all a passing curio, take what you need and no more then the inventory is less of a time sink and you see more cool stuff. How this proposed Base Building is supposed to fit into that I'm not sure.
