No Man's Sky |OT| Hello Worlds.

I don't understand how people are clearing 50 million units in this game. I've been playing for about 10 hours and have only amassed 1.5 million units.

Hilarious bit of script from
the player meeting Atlas for the fifth time
that seems like it was pulled from a review of the game:
"The act of discovery for discovery's sake now seems like a foolish conceit."

It's like they knew, lol.

Is there really nothing else to this except jump from point of interest to point of interest? Like survival isn't really a challenge, every creature is passive, and the sentinels have been pretty trivial to kill. I kind of don't get it. I've played maybe 4 hours now there should be a little more to it right?

If you don't like it now, you won't like it 10 hours later.

This is one of those games where you either like it or don't like it. There's basically no in-between.

Best NPC name I've seen so far:
ts8Z9ZJ.jpg

Everyone having issues with sentinels just enable gernades on the multitool and shoot them they die in 2 hits. I can kill 4-5 without much effort.

That's the game, my friend.

Best NPC name I've seen so far:

Fantastic. 'Oh, the things I got up to in zero gravity with Specialist Lube'

Came across a crashed ship with loads more inventory space but everything on board broken to shit. Traded that bad boy in and spent a couple of hours fixing all of its upgrades. Great fun!

Guys I'm really confused. How do I build better ships and weapons? Do I need to go to a vendor?

You don't build better ships, you find them crashed and fix them or you go to a spaceport and buy one that flies in.

As for weapons, you put upgrades into your existing tool, and sometimes you'll get the chance to get a tool with more upgrade slots from aliens or from certain types of buildings (the ones with a single launchpad attached).

My new way to enjoy NMS is to play it until it crashes. It adds a layer of much needed suspense to the gameplay. For instance, I got around an hour in today before the game hard locked. I was able to get to a Space Anomaly and farm a bit of emerald. Then the game crashed and I got some work done around the house. This is how I learn to let go.

Dear Black Hole,
please stop destroying my warp drive upgrades every time I go through one.

It actively hinders my progress to the core. Thank you

Best regards
Lima

I have an Impact upgrade, so I can take down one with just 1 grenade. Also have the Homing Grenade upgrade, so I just fire and forget.

Keep jumping to other star systems and other things start happening, and there's some pretty great lore to discover, but that's the nugget at the core of the game, yeah.

Is there a trick to finding a system full of lush forest filled planets? Like class of system to watch out for or is literally just luck? Had way too many radioactive/toxic planets lately really.

Just want one really nice looking planet to explore really.

Well that's unfortunate I like what I've played so far but not to play it another 30 hrs to reach the center.

Well, technically you build better weapons and ships by upgrading them. In which many cases I like to use the vendors for some of the more rare ingredients instead of looking everywhere for them. You just cant increase their inventory or cosmetics without getting a new one.

you know, i posted earlier that the veneer is wearing thin, but a few hours later, i'm still having lots of fun. I've had a few crashes while warping from system to system which have resulted in lost progress (i'm on ps4), but overall i'm happy with it

Welp, I guess I'm stuck in the game and will have to delete my save and start over.

Unless you all can suggest a way out of this. Basically, I flew out to investigate an abandoned ship. It's the first one I've found, so I figure I'll replace my starter ship with it. I do so, and find out I have to repair everything under the sun on it. I get everything repaired, except for the Pulse Engine, which requires Zinc (I have 18/20 of the required amount).

No where on this planet I'm stuck on is there Zinc :( :( :( I can only find Iron, Gold, Aluminum, and Plutonium, and of course Carbon. I've tried walking around to find a settlement, and did find one, but it was abandoned so it didn't have a shop.

Am I just screwed? I would get back into my starter ship, but after quitting the game and coming back later, it's gone.

Had to put this game down or else I would lose this day to it. Finally started making warp materials like its nothing and found
this sphere with 2 creatures directing me to a black hole
.

Lol, made an idiotic landing on a dead planet I wasn't planning on staying long (
Atlas quest and rare tech
). I landed on a floating island, jumped into water and couldn't get back to the ship. Even worse I couldn't get the rare tech since I can't access underwater buildings. After swearing at myself for not thinking I began looking for a landing pad to summon my ship. 30 minutes away, great.

But as I began my walk - Venom sacs. Venom sacs everywhere. When I finally arrived at the landing pad I realized I have a goldmine here, especially since landing pads include a market point meaning I don't have to leave.

Even if I would improve a lot, I fucking love this game just for moments like these.

You technically don't need the pulse engine to get around... Just takes a long time. Maybe put the controller down and let it travel to the next planet very slowly? Just boost.

So I'm renaming everything I discover like this:

(PSN is Articate)
"Articus <PartOfFirstNameThatOriginallyWas> (!)[ElementsOnPlanet]#[type]"

! Means there's green objects, those you can pick up and aggro sentinels, so like the last planet I was on:

Articus Kazu EmTi#b

Then I know I can get Emeril and Titanium there (Zinc and Platinum is part of flora, so just check that). Works for systems too. Then it's about what the big asteroids carry. Now I know where I can get what. b means it was boring :p

I gleefully named a planet "Iridium!" once.

They struck a bizarrely fine balance with the game. We could have a masterwork on our hands with a couple more updates.

Have you looked for flower looking things? They have Zinc and are on nearly every planet.

Keep looking for yellow icons popping up with L3. Would be a shame to start over because of 2 zinc. While you're looking for zinc keep investigating question marks. Eventually you'll come across a trade station or galactic market interface.

Look for a trading post (building surrounded by landing pads) or any outpost with a single Landing pad. Both will have trading kiosks and you can also buy things from the pilots constantly coming and going. Someone will have Zinc. Honestly I don't thinks it's possible to get stuck permanetly due to a lack of resources.

Well, that's just it, the ship won't launch without repairing the pulse engine :( When I try to take off, it pops up saying it's damaged.

Yep, can't find any at all. The only things that remotely look like flowers just give carbon :(

Zinc is found in flowers you have to walk up to and inspect. Shows up as a yellow icon with a bar on the scanner.

Do you have any exosuit or multi-tool upgrades you can deconstruct for some Zinc?

You'll come across some, don't worry. I've put so many hours in that I actually prefer the toxic planets. They tend to have the most valuable stuff. And when you're upgraded and buffed out, dealing with elements/sentinels isn't that big a deal.

So,

I already bought Starbound (in its early access hype) but have not really played it much.

Would I be better off digging into Starbound or jumping in with this?

It seems like they are similar games, but Starbound might have more meat on it's bones? While No Man's Sky looks way better?

My latest planet has

Big mountains of Emril
Gold crystals
Pearls
Gravitino Balls everywhere, some bases have upto 10 on the outer edge of them.

Trouble being the sentinels are very hostile, i can just be walking round and they will attack on sight.

I've also seen some monsterous wildlife, one thing looked like a t-rex had mated with a white fluffy bunny, i named it Bunnyasaurus Rex

Good to know I'm not the only one. I had high hopes for the new planet I just arrived on and ... nope! I could spend two, three hours on my favourite planets. Now, I'm just moving on. This is getting boring.

Yup. I'm ploughing through black holes in the hope I get some crazy looking planets lush with life both flora and fauna but nope :(

Starbound definitely has more meat....I would hold off on NMS for now and pick it up down the line.
