Now that we have the PS5 Pro in hand, what's your thoughts?

I'm reserving judgment until it's stopped downloading all my games that I am trying to install I cam definitely hear it 3 meters away.

I was stood right next to it when I said it was loud though, will try and record it tonight so you can compare it to yours and obvs others if they see fit, maybe I'm being over sensative

Stating the obvious, but just make sure its got loads of space to vent. I know my XSX used to get loud one time when I wasn't giving it enough space to expel the hot air away and so was likely sucking a little of it back in. Moved it and it was silent. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Btw that HZD remastered in Pro performance mode is jaw dropping for me. I feel like next gen has finally arrived! Stunning.

The main benefits I see, for me, is the performance boosts and higher IQ and improved graphics for performance modes that are ideal for Remote Play on Portal.
Since most of my playtime will be on Portal, this might arguably be the biggest pro for the Pro.

agreed. horizon is ridiculous. both of them. so clear and smooth. harry potter perfomance mode is also pretty amazing. actually did a back to back comparison of Dragon Age Veilguard (i know. i punish myself each morning for having supported it but i wanted to play a new fantasy game!) on my pro and ps5 and can see a difference. pro is just more crisp. helldivers runs butter smooth. maybe just placebo but both fidelity and perfomance modes look really clean - at least when you're on a planet (if they release a patch for it to make the fidelity mode 60fps it's going to insane). new world aeturnum isn't mind blowing but definitely looks and runs better than ps5. same with throne and liberty.

and is it just me (and maybe i had my hdr settings wrong all these years on my ps5), but is hdr better?? maybe the increase in power makes it "stronger" if that makes sense? i don't know, but particle effects look crisper and brighter and the hdr looks amazing. (i'm on a 55" lg c2).

so far, pretty pleased! i'm an early adopter, and it's good to know that all the new shit coming next year will be running at the optimal performance on console. if you have the money and love to game (and have a good oled tv), it's a no brainer.

edit: forgot to mention jedi survivor looks REALLY good in performance mode and fidelity with motion blur looks great (only through the first mission... beat it on xbox and loved it). star wars outlaws doesn't allow you to change anything (mode-wise) but it looks pretty good too. 60fps. not out of the beginning city area yet though so we shall see. hdr effects could be better but that's a game dev thing, not ps5 pro.

FOV is very important and can actually cause that exact thing, but it is caused by the Microsoft software you are playing and not the console. Many console games do have FOV sliders.

Well, more than that per everything I wrote. Again too, I'm not running down the Pro. Best console ever. I would really like to embrace it. There is still just an overall fidelity/performance gap that remains bigger than I'd like or hoped it would be which I think will keep me on PC.

I usually widen FoV in games on PC, so when console games have tighter FoV because of less performance and you can't change it, it feels restricting. I don't recall if Minecraft had a slider or not. It is a game my son plays with his friends, so we jumped into it via a trial on the console which he hadn't seen before. My son has been into video games with me now for a few years (he's 11), and we play co-op stuff or pass the controller back and forth games. He's largely been a PC gamer because I have been these last years, but we play a "consolized" PC with controllers in our living room.

Per my post, the main games we went directly back and forth with last night were Ratchet and Spider-Man 1. We tried both of them in Performance Pro and Fidelity Pro modes with and without 120 Hz on given we game on an 83" LG G2. The difference is still very distinct, IMO. We did a lot of loading into same worlds or going to the same points in the city and jumping directly back and forth between inputs. I've always found these differences to be profound. Far greater than most comparisons say or comparison videos online show.

He's become a big Marvel fan with me the last years as well, so he's interested to play Spider-Man. He started a new game and played through defeating the Kingpin on PC. I'm planning to sit with him and watch him play the same intro sequence on the Pro as well to compare. We'll see how it goes.

If I feel inclined to swap platforms back to console, it will 100% be with the Pro. Anyone without interest in PC should go for it.
 
The disc drive installation is bullshit, it seriously took me 5 times to actually get that shit in the system. Not nearly as easy as it looks online. I would have paid a premium to have it pre installed if I knew it would be such a hassle.


Game wise I'm happy, Hogwarts Legacy looks damn fine with the new fidelity RT mode so much so that I'm willing to sacrifice 60fps if I get RT reflections and shadows this good.

Yeah it works and all. It's not harmful. It's just partly blocking the vents. Some people need it to stand vertically for their setups. The complaints? That's from people that don't realize that Sony has been selling the vertical stands separately since PS2.

Loving it so far, waiting on a disc drive to be shipped but in the meantime I downloaded the fisrt descendant a free to play game, never seen a digital ass look so good 👌

Never heard anyone discussing if the disc driver was external or internal, just that it sold separately, and 99% discussion about the disc driver was about sony having shit for brain and not including such a thing in a premium console because they are a bunch of greedy fucks.

Maybe i missed all the technical discussions about the assembling...

So far I am impressed.TLOU2 looks much better and so does HFW.

That being said the PS6 needs to have an easier way of installing SSDs. Somebody who does not know what they are doing can easily break the cover and that goes for the Pro and regular PS5. They need to look at the hard drive from the 360 and how easy it was.

Ok maybe doing it on a bed didn't give me the force I needed to fully snap it in. But ultimately it's bullshit that I could still not have it fully snapped in but still be able to put the plate over the top.
 
its important. as DF said PSSR is game changer and it is. and its even better then FSR 3 right awya from first try. its amazing. so Pro is important console to see whats in future. shame for the price and shame im not rich as i would buy it , as i still dont have ps5. i had ps4 pro thought. its new tech ..and more AI . thats what next gen consoles will do and must do .

It takes less than 5 minutes to install.

We are in agreement that at this price it should have the drive, but that doesn't make putting the drive in difficult. Not saying the process is flawless......

Mine is currently doing the data transfer (90 minutes on ethernet seems too long) but I'm happy with how small/light it is compared to my 2020 launch PS5.

I only wish they would've given us some ellipsoid shaped horizontal stand that would let you stack it on top of the 360's curved top. Horizontal console stand technology is one area where Sony has really blown away the competition.

Chose the Balanced Pro mode. Got to be honest, Quality Pro was a bit disappointing, wasn't smooth at all. I might try it with vrr but doubt it will mitigate those issues. Someone else also mentioned the UI being choppy. It is but not on the main menus, more in the system menu itself.

F1 24 looks legit amazing though. Compared to base PS5. I'll be trying a few more games but we aren't going to see the best of this thing until April when Sony start dropping bombs again.

VRR won't help the quality pro mode due to it running at 30 fps, from my understanding. I was switching between Balanced and Performance last night. The only differences I could find is a little more pop-in on performance and the image just a touch softer. Before, I was usually running my games in balance mode, but for ZD Remastered, performance is working great for me on the PRO.

And in answer to the actual thread, really enjoying mine! Can hear the fan but only if the room is silent, and no coil whine thank god. Dragon's Dogma 2 plays completely differently with the new modes, have also spent some time on F1 24. Have wishlisted Stellar Blade, which looks simply astonishing and that's just on YT.

I moved the mesh router close enough to connect them via LAN and restarted the data transfer, now it's blazing. About 1 hour to transfer all the rest. Looks like it's transferring 120 MB/s which would mean it's maxing out the gigabit Ethernet.

Lol…you went above and beyond. You actually didn't need to move your router. Data transfer supports direct ethernet connection. Single ethernet cable connecting ends to each PS5.
 
Only thing im noticing as a negative playing COD on both Pro and PC is the 4:2:2 chroma. Colours look less vibrant when on 4k 120 mode.
 
A game not many would have tried has confirmed something cool.

Avatar Pandora has DRS and keeps to the upper range it actually looks half decent in performance mode without a patch v impressive.
 
Rebirth is a night and day difference when running under versatility mode, it's the best of both worlds, fidelity and 60FPS.

Looking forward to TLOU1&2 replays, along with my platinum quest in Stellarblade.

I hope to see more games get patches that make meaningful differences.

- FF7 Rebirth is a night and day difference (glad I waited to finish this)

Aside from that. I have zero desires to replay any games I've already beaten. Getting a PS5 Pro was my FOMO kicking in.

It's too soon for me to go back to Rebirth as I binged it over the summer, but for now this will be my Horizon Zero Dawn / Forbidden West machine. I wish I had a new title to be excited about. Once Sony gets the memo and updates more of their PSVR2 catalogue (ESPECIALLY RE4) I'm going to be a happy camper.

Although some context: earlier this week I got a new wireless mesh system for my house. I stuck one of them downstairs kinda close to the game consoles intending to eventually connect them with a wired connection, I just need a couple LAN cables that are long enough.

Still, it would've been nice if they told you that you can connect them directly in the *%#$ing data transfer wizard.

(And to be fair it mentions in the instructions that it's faster with a wired connection…. but I didn't think they meant freaking 30x faster. What kind of ghetto ass WiFi adapter are they using in this thing?)

I like the disc drive separate! Incase the disc lens cant read anymore. You have to buy another ps5 or repair it which is most expensive than get another disc drive.

I was going to mention that this was on sale in the enhanced thread in case they did add a patch. I think it was $20 but not sure if that's a good price
