Okay, this info changes perception a lot. VR-Helmet plus uglybox plus PS4 vs. VR-Helmet plus shiny new PS4slim+.
I think for many this would be a reason to update, especially when the PS4slim+ can enhance non-VR games, too. Like better framerate or so.

They were as much 'sales' as any other official or unofficial bundle ever. They are units bound to a hw sale and assigned to a user account after the code is redeemed.

Splatoon sold as much before bundles were released.
They are free copies, though. The Japanese Splatoon bundle costs as much as buying the console and the game on their own - just with a small discount.

That depends of the grade of promotion the platform holder wants to make. I'm sure you remember many bundles from different platforms that had the same price as the system alone. I do. They were never discounted in ltd sales.
I think it's the weirdest "my exclusive vs yours" comparison I've ever seen.
I remember when it was Splatoon vs Persona 5 in the Media Create thread.
