Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
Yeah, but I still can't partake until drug testing for it goes away. All this money I can't spend.

Most likey never happening. It is more for insurrance reasons why companies drug test. Private companies will always drug test and I for one do not disagree with it.

I would think states would be rushing to legalize it, how much money could they put into their coffers by taxing such a profitable item?

They will eventually.

Gambling once was in the same boat. It was denounced by churches and general public. Then riverboat gambling started on the Mississippi. It revitalized down towns and brought people across the river and up and down to gamble. The neighboring states, like the one across the river, saw all their citizens leaving and spending money, and the benefits the other state received - Lot of tax money and people dining out, etc.

In time the other states wanted a piece of the pie. More approved gambling. Same thing will happen with weed I believe.

As someone stated, the catch to all this is that as long as it is illegal in the US, an employer can test and fire you.

What makes you think they wouldn't stop testing for it like alcohol?

If not, they need to use the tests that show really recent traces of it in your system and not the ones that go back for 3 months

The UK could do with legalising this too. Nice boost for the economy and that tax money has got to be hard to turn down.

In many states, they could fire you for it regardless. Marijuana users, like cigarette smokers, aren't a protected class. It's a flimsy argument, but with at-will employment, that's just how it works. If it's not "He was smoking it on the job" it's "the smell was distracting and leading to a terrible work environment." Of course, the real reason might be because they don't like weed and don't like you smoking weed, but they could still get away with firing you for that, too. Even if it 's for a medical condition. It's all a liability issue. Personally, if you work with heavy machinery at all, it's probably safer not to partake, and it saves companies big in the long run. Even if you're the best employee they've ever had, a split second delay could mean you lose your fingers. If they think marijuana use could lead to more such accidents, they're fully within their rights to ban the use thereof.

It's crazy to me that this thing isn't legalized in more places. The amount of money countries are losing is ridiculous.

Can't wait until it's legal in more places so hopefully it slows down the tide of people moving to Colorado. It's crazy how many out of state people you see at the recreational stores.

Yeah I would think that states would want to legalize it to help keep people in. Despite NJ having a pretty good job market, more people are moving out than in (high property taxes and insurance premiums are a big reason). How to go about keeping more in? WAIT I HAVE AN IDEA!!

Funds are considering the ethics of investing in marijuana.

Oh yeah, as opposed to considering the ethics of investing in tobacco, beer, drugs, guns, missiles.

As for the tax money, it really only shifts money around in the end, but potentially from less-taxed expenditures.

The real cost savings would be on the incarceration and policing/judicial side, as well a reduction in organized crime profits, and potentially health care side.

Sigh...I need to move outta VA. We'll probably be one of the last states to fully legalize it.

Then they should start alcohol testing too. Alcohol is far worse for your health than weed.

Oh wait that's right, it's really not for insurance reasons. I love this ass backwards country.

Four states and the District of Columbia allow full adult use, and this year, seven more will vote on allowing it: California, Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Vermont.
CA is a lock, but it's going to be a tough battle in the other states unless they find a way to mobilize young voters.

I think we can all agree that the current laws on marijuana use are draconian, regardless of personal opinions on the drug itself. Out society does not require long jail sentences for pot to function properly.
