Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

K4uLaKG.png
It'll peak at 250k this weekend. Bet. Maybe more. A shadow drop on Tuesday has 170k

50mbps? Fuckkkkkkkkk

You started this download when it was available I'm assuming? FFS. Wow. Just no words.

To be fair, I can drive 2-3 miles from my house and be in "no man's land" with 25mbps DSL being my fastest option. That or satellite internet
Yes, that's exactly right - the very minute! I remoted to my computer with hopes it would be faster than this.. but when I got home still quite a ways.

Overcast lighting makes it look more dull and washed out. For more vivid colors closer to original you can use console commands to force sunny weather.

~ key to open the console, then this one will enable sunny weather. It can really make a difference.
NOTE! Game reports that there will be no achievements after using console commands!

I do Kinda dread the opening here

Man it's SUPER LAME. Sewer escape. Kinda like every Bethesda game ever made. They have to put in a 1-2 hour shit opening that I've done a dozen times

Edit: Morrowind is the last Bethesda game I recall To have a short opening. The rest after, suck ass to replay. Totally suck. ALL of them.

Wow. More power to ya man. I live In rural Alabama and MANY around me can only get the piss speeds like you. Sucks. But glad ya got it remote started
You never know with people's setups and especially these companies who "may or may not throttle" speeds. I pay for 1GB/s internet. Ookla tests show about 750mpbs over wifi close to the router which I'll take. But my gaming loft is about 2 stories above the router.
My speeds for downloading Oblivion were around 100mbps/s with dips to the 50s just like a lot of others here.

God I'd love to get my router one floor higher.

They fixed the gameplay loop or it's exactly the same game with better graphics? (aka close portals ad eternum until you get stronger and the bandits you encounter around the map get even stronger.)

Mine go between 50mbps-400mbps with this specific game. It's GENERALLY 400mbps solid.

But now 92% done. Started around 90 minutes ago. Won't complain too much.

Does the old duplication glitch still work? Or that weightless heavy armor exploit?

Also may as well ask here, has anyone ever had to take their pants off to get into the shivering isles? I was watching my friend play years ago and the game wouldn't let him in, until he took his pants off.

Already became a vampire by accident, completely forgot about this and now I can't go out during the day and I gotta spend who knows how many hours relearning how to cure this shit, fml :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Todd you bastard, now I'm addicted to TES once again!

Game is GOATED. Was 14 or so. Played on Xbox. The OG Xbox of course.

Went and bought the strategy guide and all. Spent 2 SOLID weeks daily playing… ALL DAY LONG… with my friend. Taking turns playing

Using the guide like a bible

Good times
Whoever wasn't playing, manned the strategy guide.
When I say "All day". I'm talking summer vacation, 16+ hour days.
Was an obsession we both fell in

We were immersed as any game we'd ever played

We saw credits roll and sat back in awe at what we'd done.
Didn't know then a game could be so real and free and immersive.
Blew our minds

Shenmue looked like child's play compared for us

PSA.

If you get tired of the lockpicking mini-game, there is a skeleton key in the game that lets you just mash the auto-unlock and it never breaks.

You need to be Level 10 to be eligible to do that quest.

It is triggered at Nocturnal's Shrine (Nocturnal is one of the Diedra gods).

I'm enjoying this game a lot, but it's almost Monty Pythonesque at times. You really have to roll with it.

I shake my head whenever I'm with a few NPCs and they go through a door one by one. 😂

One positive is that I've noticed fewer stutters, if any, after the first hour or two. In general I think the visuals are decent in performance mode on the Pro. I did switch off the reflections option in the menu though.

Wow really? Never knew. I need To do this. I'm about that. Ok. Level 10. How far into the game is that quest?

Whelp, my concerns on the color palette were largely incorrect. This game is a stunner. The animation improvements they made are really excellent. There is some jank to be sure, but this is overall a good remaster.

Let's do this

NGL, I could not beat Umbra in a fair fight.

I cheesed her back to near the start of the dungeon where there's a pit that falls down when someone stands on it with spikes at the bottom. I had to make her fall down it a few times to kill her.

If you're level 10, you can do it any time. It's not a part of the main story or any faction quests.

Nocturnal's Shrine is just a little north and east of Leyawiin. If you're looking at the map, it's gonna be on the right side of the river, you'll see a few people hanging around the shrine.

edit: Map location to help out

I don't cheese. Do a stealth bow shot from above and then it's just around and around in a circle on that bottom floor while I plug her with steel arrows 🤣

Sweet. Noted

The movement on controller stick is not analogue - there is only painfully slow walk, too fast run, and sprint, with no gradual adjustment possible. Why...

Got it on PSN. I had it on 360 at launch with the guide. Having to hold A during loading screens to clear the cache. I remember the Skeleton Key quest was the best item to get because you got unlimited lock pick usage from it. I'm curious how the DLC will look in this. It was a looker back in 2006, but by those standards so did a lot of things that didn't age well.

Haha I see it was already brought up, the Skeleton key. 🔑

My strategy is to do that *before* starting the Thieve's Guild.

Having an unbreakable lockpick makes most it so much more manageable.
Throw any other tips my way. Been FOREVER since I did A REAL playthrough like I'm intending here

I've booted it up and went through lame sewer opening and explorered the world some. Then I just kinda move on lol 😂

I just have one more tip for you.
Enjoy the fuck out of it.

how puzzle heavy is this game, mainly the main story

Just about none in terms of puzzles. It's more exploration and traversal.

Anyone with a 3080 or 3090 you have to use AMD's FSR + their frame generation (NOT Nvidia's frame generation) to get over 60fps.
Back in 2006 I was disabling grass to get above 20 fps lmao
Now I'm doing 40 at 4k with everything on max and DLSS Ultra Performance. I feel spoiled. The dungeons are a locked 60. Can go higher but my 14700k might explode.

Found a Oblivion gate even before returning the amulet. Didn't know that was a thing, thought they only start appearing after the Kvatch quest.

I mean, PS5 Pro is not perfect, but I remember how choppy it was back when it launched on PS3. Feels like forever ago.

Very tempted to buy this, but I read the PS5 version has stuttering. Even on the Pro.

Any news on this? Updates incoming?

Well, I'm out then. I only have a base PS5, guessing it's worse there.
The thing no one is mentioning, is that on PS5 the "ready to play" state is at 20 GB. It then downloads and installs the other 100 GB while you play.

What are the odds all these people mentioning stuttering have the rest of the game installing/downloading in the background? Would explain why other users say it's perfectly fine.

The orc lady at chestnut handy stables gives you her armored old nag for free, if you ask for any old steed Very nice, 10 minutes into the open world and Im ready to roll. Took me ages to get a mount in the old game.

You can get there easily by just walking around the city isle anti-clockwise from the sewer exit.

If you want better audio and performance add

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.UseLegacyMaintainYFOVViewMatrix=1

[AUDIO]
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
bEnableHRTF=True

[/script/akaudio.aksettings]
bEnableMultiCoreRendering=True
