Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

I'm A-B'ing this now. Don't have enough time to really check it out but it seems that SSR off looks better.

Definitely looks better in my eyes.

Nothing more irritating than seeing a massive reflection/outline of the weapon you're holding despite the water being 100s of metres away. Whatever implementation they're using, it's completely broken.

Really hard to make anything good looking, decided to go with female this time around despite always playing as male in Bethesda games

Wasn't able to even finish the tutorial - longer than I remember and I just played it again last year lol.

But visually looks nice and runs well so far, see how we do in the overworld. It does seem like it's just a UE5 robe for the old engine, which for me is a win, so far. Hope to get back into this shortly and sleep is going to be shy tonight.

I need a new GPU. I don't wanna turn settings down, but the overworld runs like doodoo for me. Can't complain though. This 2080 Super has served me well since like 2020.

For now I'll just grin and bear it.

Finally outta that place. Maybe 40 minutes

But basically did a speed run. Skipped all dialogue. Explored none. Screw the opening

I'm out here in the open world now. Picture is on my Steam Deck btw

Dude. Just finished it. Absolutely fast as possible. No or little exploration bc. Fuck that opening. Bethesda can't open games for shit. lol 😂

What resolution are you running at and what's your CPU?

1440p
R6 7600

It's not unplayable, just not ideal. I have DLSS set to Performance, a mix of high and medium settings, and hardware lumen off. Like I said, not too bothered by it, but it is noticeable, especially when moving to a new part of the overworld. Doodoo here largely means it dips and rises like a rollercoaster at times. Could probably drop the software lumen to low instead of high, but I really like how it looks on high. Inside cities and dungeons run fantastic no matter what settings I use.

Try this.

Ray tracing is forced here is a fix for performance.

- Go to: Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\Windows
- Open Engine.ini and add
[SystemSettings]
r.RayTracing=False

If you want better audio and performance add

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.UseLegacyMaintainYFOVViewMatrix=1

[AUDIO]
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
bEnableHRTF=True

[/script/akaudio.aksettings]
bEnableMultiCoreRendering=True

[/script/engine.audiosettings]
au.EnableBinauralAudioForAllSpatialSounds=1
au.DisableBinauralSpatialization=0
bAllowCenterChannel3DPanning=True
bEnableBinauralRendering=True
au.AllowAudioSpatialization=1
au.EnableSoundOcclusion=1
au.SpatializationMethod=2
bEnableHRTF=True

[SystemSettings]
r.psowarmup.warmupmaterials=0
r.RayTracing=False

[Engine.InputSettings]
RawMouseInputEnabled=1
bDisableMouseAcceleration=True
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False

The thing no one is mentioning, is that on PS5 the "ready to play" state is at 20 GB. It then downloads and installs the other 100 GB while you play.

What are the odds all these people mentioning stuttering have the rest of the game installing/downloading in the background? Would explain why other users say it's perfectly fine.
I started playing when my download was fully complete since the whole thing only took about 20 minutes, it's stuttering in the open world frequently on performance, it's really not so bad though. Base PS5.

I haven't entered an oblivion gate yet though, which could be worse based on what a couple of people had mentioned.

I'm glad they have the option to turn SSR off on console too.

It looks terrible. Especially when swimming on the surface of water.
Ahh, so that's what I'll probably wind up trying the next session. I knew something was a little off with the image quality on Series X.

OT: So far, I haven't experienced a ton of huge stutters. I had one big one whilst walking around the over-world, and a few micro ones, but otherwise it hasn't been egregious. Though, I am playing in Quality Mode, so maybe I'm just not feeling them as much. I don't know what the resolution in Quality mode is, but the image looks sharp; likely a 4K upscaled resolve.

I don't really have any questions for ya'll who've played this game over the decades; I'm kind of just… Getting stuck in? I did hear something about a particular boar that I should keep an eye out for from a friend, though. Game's fun. First Elder Scrolls game for me!

Still running my 2080 Super as well, and I'm right there with you. This girl has done me well for the last 5.5 years, but new games are just becoming too big for it to handle without sacrificing settings and resolution. Will hopefully be able to upgrade sometime this year.

The Series X has honestly been a boon in that regard. Even despite not being able to match a top PC, naturally, it'll play basically everything just fine. Like you said, grin and enjoy the games lol.

I'm debating just upgrading to a 4070 using ebay maybe.

STEAM DECK pic btw

But, myself and my horse Charlie, have been traveling all day. We got caught in a thunderstorm after finding an abandoned farm house on a mountain

We're both exhausted

So after watching the lightening strikes and such, it's bed time for us. We've got lots to do later.

Sleeping to the sounds of a thunderstorm on top to a mountain

What better thing can be done? Cozy bed in a warm abandoned farm home

K. Well. Suddenly world turned red and red lightening strikes and the works

Me and Charlie are scared. Told him to stay back while I check It out.

We heading back to the abandoned farm house NOW (steam deck)

I'm so confused by this game having played only Skyrim.

Is loot supposed to be just absolute shit? It feels like a chore to even open chests in this game because all I'll see is a pair of black smith pants and a piece of bread.

Nothing good from any dungeons.

Game just feels extremely unsatisfying in every aspect of a RPG so far. Bad loot. Boring dungeons. Weak side quests.

Combat is good but like I posted earlier the challenge is just so boring on adept but too fucked up on expert.

I love the visuals, music, monster design, armor design. The rest just is… bad.

Myself and my horse Charlie have no idea what ya mean. We saw lightning and got scared. Retreated back to our abandoned farm house for a good nights sleep

Playing this is so bittersweet. It's a great update don't get me wrong (despite some bugs) but for me it has also been a reminder of far gaming has fallen from just being about simple fun. When I first played Oblivion, it was on PS3. I played the shit out of that game. After growing up playing almost exclusively JRPGs, Oblivion redefined what an RPG could be for me.

Here we are 2 decades and 2 generations later - we have more power than ever before but most AAA games have become soulless… Great graphics but feels like I have to force myself to enjoy it.

I sunk 5 hours into Oblivion Remaster after work. I didn't even mean to play that long, I was just enjoying myself so much time slipped away. It wasn't even about the nostalgia, in fact it had been so long, most of the game has felt almost brand new. There is some other element there that just allowed me to let go and enjoy this world. Whatever that element is, has gone missing in most modern games. I can only hope Elder Scrolls 6 will capture some of that magic.

The best stuff you'll get from the Daedric quests, Dark Brotherhood and other factions. And as you level up you'll start finding more random interesting equipment in caves and dungeons.

how does it run? saw a lot of steam reviews complaining about outdoor stutters.
Game runs great in tight spaces, but suffers in the open world.

The game has the original's area segmentation (city in different districts, go to door and press A to move to the new zone, etc.) so in a lot of places it's just fine. Like the original, the game does an excellent job of making the play areas just big enough to be interesting, but not too small that they feel claustrophobic. The giant continuous open-world area really suffers though and can bring a good graphics card to its knees, especially in 4K. I think it's a combination of draw distance, shadows, texture size, etc.

For reference, my 4070 Super playing at 5120x1440 got a full 120fps in all the indoor spaces. Moving around in the open world, it dropped to between 65-70. That was without any tweaks and just using the game's pre-set default whatevers.

Oblivion hasn't aged well at all, especially compared to Skyrim which fixed many of the complaints people had about Oblivion

But yes the music is amazing in Oblivion and this remaster does seem to be a nice looking coat of UE5 paint, too bad the underlying game is still Oblivion

Couldn't play last night because it didn't download until I had to go to sleep.
And now in the morning I thought I could play a bit before work but then it takes forever to preload shaderssssss!!!!!!! 😤🥺😭
