Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Is combat improved? How does everything feel? Like a 20 year old game, or does it feel more modern?

How the fuck is everyone playing already? DON'T YOU GUYS HAVE JOBS?

I'm just jealous

Heh you should expect nothing else from that beast 🔥

But it's still good to hear. There can still be shader stutter even on good rigs, way too common in UE5 in my experience. Avowed is the only UE5 game so far that has been stable for me.

Any word on base PS5 performance?
The game's default preset is Performance, and its very stable

You start in a cave tho, so I havent reached outside yet, but performance is solid 60 so far.

Crazy how polish it feels, honestly. Virtuos cooked.

I wouldnt mind if all Bethesda games from now on use the "Creation Engine for logic + UE 5 for graphics" combo.

This is 100% my main question too. Specifically regarding melee combat. Even Skyrim five years later had the notorious "slapping with a pool noodle" lack of weight issues. And even the best mods barely changed that feeling. I'm not expecting the sun and moon but I'd like to know if it was updated at least a little bit. The bow was always pretty good though, all things considered.

CDKeys server took a shit. Soon as I went to get my key, it crashed lmao. Fukc my luck is horrible -100

The performance tanks when you get out there in the day or at least it did for me. Interested to see how the top tier card combo handles this with and without fg. If you can update would be great!

Okay, out in the open world it's running like this when maxed out on my 9800X3D/5090 rig:

  • 4K DLAA FG - 80-100 FPS
  • 4K DLAA no FG - 50-70 FPS
  • 4K DLSS Quality FG - 120 FPS locked
  • 4K DLSS Quality no FG - 70-80 FPS

This is all forcing DLSS 4 on as well. Also using RTX HDR which eats ~5% performance on average. No stutters that I've observed so far.

In a grand single-player adventure game like this, I'm going with 4K DLAA FG.

You are not the only one dealing with that shit my man. Let's hope they fix it soon and we get to visit Cyrodiil once again.
If you haven't bought the game (seems you already have) greenmangaming has the game, strangely enough cheaper than cdkeys. At least for usa. $42 bucks.

Thank you for this!

probably not unless you want to play it on the Steam Deck or something
Got it, thank you.

Never had this happen but I guess because it shadow dropped, CDKey servers got a shock. I usually do Paypal "PayIn4" option on games. If you use Paypal enough times (anywhere) you'll get the option to pay for stuff (not just games) with four payments, usually monthly. So it cost like $10.90

Thanks. I read elsewhere that performance took a nose dive when they reached the city on PS5 Pro. That's why I'm holding out.

Did they finally ban him? Lol. One of two people I've ever muted in 10+ years on this site.
It's a temp for him and Sweettooth both, the two most notorious console warriors on the forum. To be honest I'm amazed it took this long, they've always just been absolutely nothing more than trolls and shit kickers, trying to rile people up, but at least it happened eventually. Maybe they won't be shits when they get back.....but I'm not holding my breath.

OT: Question for the lads and lasses who are playing, (I can't try it yet, got a house full of my daughter's friends over and I'll need peace and quiet for when I try it), how's the performance? I'm sure it's been covered, but do you think my rig with a 5950 X and a 4080 will handle it well? How about my wife's with a 9800 X 3D and a 2080? If you had to hazard a guess, would you say it's more CPU or GPU intensive? Thanks fellas.

GAF, we need to coin a term for this style of a game, like Metroid Prime, Spiro, etc, that seems to be more than just a Remaster, but not really a full Remake.

I suggest the term, "Remakstered".

How does it rate against Skyrim?
Better writting.
Better RPG mechanics and player customization.
Better quest design, or at least more interesting imo.
More memorable characters, but I guess that's subjective.
And no shitty dragon fights, which imo suck in Skyrim big time.

Only thing I like worse is the world exploration and combat, but the later might have been improved so who knows.

If it's your first time playing you are in for a deal. The Imperial City feels way bigger than anything in Skyrim, and one of the DLCs is amazing.

This is a full remake. For what I can see it looks better than half the stuff out there and for what i have read it plays great. Still wondering why they call it a remaster.

Not sure if this a carry over from the original but when you 1 shot a guy in stealth mode, he goes down dead and anyone standing around next to them don't even notice

This whole thing is just weird. MS just more or less stealth dropped easily one of their best games in recent memory and completely undersold it as a remaster. LOL
