Oblivion Remastered |OT| Kvatching up with an old hero

Little interested as looks quite nice and didnt play original but: 1) I couldnt get into morrowind and skyrim for some reason 2) just finished kcd2 and afraid comparison can be dreadful for oblivion remake/remaster

Is it me or did they get rid of the map you can access when inside the caves and mini dungeons? I just completed a fort and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to look at that 2nd map screen.
You have to zoom in max, then zoom again and then you're in the local map. It's a bit confusing at first.

I was firmly on the "this should be called remake" camp but after playing first couple hours, it is really a mix. The shitty stuff like people disappearing into thin air when going inside door and thus loading different cell and all the loading screens are still here, combat is still terrible, dialogue is the same (bad) etc.

It will be fun for nostalgia and to see the new visuals, but Oblivion aged badly and this does not really help with that. It is not RE4 level remake.

so, I'm only able to select 3840x1080 on my G9 OLED on Steam. It's 32:9 super ultrawide and it looks like it's my monitors native resolution as the game looks great but that's 5120X1440. Confused why that's not an option as it supports 32:9 ratio.

Only just finished the quest at the inn as I left the sewers. I loved this game back when it first came out and it feels like I'm playing it again for the first time which is exactly what I wanted.

Microsoft continuing their speedrun of releases on ps5. Next up Forza horizon 5 in a few days, then age of empires 2 and doom straight after.

Makes you wonder what they have cooking for the summer.

Downloading now, the premier was at 1am so didn't stay awake for it 6am now and installing and sorting the boys out and having an early day for this one.

Lol at how the mushrooms disappear when you gather them.

So far my only complaint is the damn ue5 lumen ghosting effect. Aside from that it's a very nice remaster. Combat seems to feel better than the original, like there is more "oomph" to it.

I agree. I love it, but… it's still Oblivion. For better or worse. On PC at least, I feel like the biggest selling point for veterans of the original is just creating a gorgeous Cyrodiil sandbox for modders.

This is absolutely amazing, everything about this. I only saw the stream but it's clear that it was created with love by people who care about it. They upgraded the visuals and animations to match the current industry standards and changed just enough to modernize the game, without sacrificing the things why we loved the original. And in addition to this, they just released it on the same day. This is something remarkable and unique in the industry, and I love it. It's one of my favorite games and I'm so joyful that this is happening with it. There is only one problem. I want this on disc and it seems there is no info about that so far. The only reason I could keep myself of hype buying it digitally is that I want to finish FF7 Rebirth (another amazing game) before jumping into anything else. But I can't wait, hopefully the physical release is coming soon as well.

Expert mode is kicking my ass.

Few issues:
-Had stutters and freezes on ps5 pro performance mode
-character creator I picked black hair and it looked blonde in creator. Black in game. Weird bug.

Steam version ran great for me (QHD - RTX 3080, 5800x3d) until I got out of the sewers. Then it was choppy and chuggy for a good long while. I'm hoping that's not going to be the case the whole time.

I got up to the town with the first Oblivion gate and had to break for work. Overall it seems great. I just hope the performance isn't as bad as the impression I got there at the end of my session.
I would check that you're not running out of VRAM.

They removed male/female character creation and it's now "body type 1" and "body type 2".

It still feels like Oblivion with most It's jank, albeit better graphics. It's mostly the same game with a fresh coat of paint.

It's good but glad it wasn't $70. Quality mode on base ps5 runs kinda ass.

I'm not joking: I think Bethesda should keep the "Gamebryo for logic + UE 5 for graphics" combo for their next game.

It's the best of both worlds. And if Virtuos with a limited budget was capable of going this far with the graphic updates, Bethesda should be more than capable of delivering even better results.

Looks gorgeous while keeping all the systems that are important for a Bethesda game

Everyone was joking about how terrible this game would perform with both engines at the same time, but I bit my tongue.
the problem is that this combination does not suppor indoors and outdoors at the same time.
Everything is instanced in gamebryo.

All right I caved and picked it up on base PS5.

My download will be done in a few minutes.

I will report back later with performance, if anybody has any questions about base PS5, ask and I will try my best to answer them because I've been frustrated for the past couple hours not finding answers to things I'm curious about.

If they announce a physical version later today I'm gonna hate myself though.

Let me know performance on base console if you can, i still can't find exact data.
Does it run at 60? Is there a performance/quality selector?

No....I mean "most of the time" throughout the game. The frame drops do happen, but it isn't a constant thing by any stretch.
First portal/gate under 48fps until you get into a tower, horse travel? under 48fps. Multiple stuttering and drops in open world. 5 npc in screen? under 48fps. Not even a good experience in a VRR screen.

Can't even begin to describe how nostalgic this game is making me lol
It was the game I put hundreds of hours into when I had just moved on my own and was studying at 18.
It was a fairly rough time for me due to some real life family problems I had back then, and this game helped me so much during that time.
Playing the remaster and hearing the music and seeing the familiar locations is a crazy feeling.

How are you determining the frame rate?

It's pretty obvious when the game is stuttering and the framerate is not even on VRR range, I don't need to watch a DF video to realize. Also I can display VRR stats on my TV.

People is always complaining for Silent Hill 2 on PS5 Pro, and this game performance is much worse.

PS5 Pro has heavy stuterring in the open.

Well more than one saying it so guess it is just me. Like I said, I've noticed some stutters here and there, but for the most part it has been fine.
