That Hockey Goons article is the best i've read from ESPN in a long ass time. The way it perfectly builds up the suspense...just great sports writing. Looks like I won't be checking ESPN just for Bill Simmons anymore.

Well, considering we sold out every single home game this season, they could set the ticket prices at whatever they want and we will still sell out.

Well I think that's not out of the ordinary, Mellon arena is one of the smallest, isn't it? 16K seats. The JLA outsells that with an average of 17K a night.

But you can't under-estimate the difference another $20-40 makes in your attendance. If the Mellon arena was larger (20K seats) and had higher prices...I don't think the answer is definite, especially when to my knowledge, the economy in Pennsylvania is just as bad as Michigan's.

The prices are probably similar considering these are the Finals.

*insert trash talk about Montreal never making the finals again by manics or barrage here*

Of course they will, at one point or another, but not in our lifetimes.

Yeah our arena is 17,132 at max standing room capacity. It will be interesting to see what happens when the new arena is built. If the season ticket waiting list is any indication, we will probably sell out every home game. I'm just curious to see how bad the hike in ticket prices for regular season will be.

What really sucks is that they had to axe almost 1000 ticket seats for media and other garbage for games 3 and 4.

franzen is practicing...they still say he's doubtful for game 1, i guess they need doctors to clear him first.

dude it's the same as before, he isnt practicing, he is riding a bike. By the looks of it, I think he will miss atleast the first 2 games.

he was on the ice today and will practice with the team tomorrow:

"He's ready," said Babcock. "There's no coaching perspective in this. It's all doctors. He's tipping pucks in the back of the net. He's flying around at 100 miles an hour. ... He's ready to go. He's just got to get the OK."

MIND GAMES.

so what's the problem then? Is the doctors paid by the Penguins?

So Gillis keeps AV around, but is going to change up the whole "omg defense" mantra. Interesting.
I think it's pretty ballsy for a coach to fire his assistant coaches, even if he is forced to, and then sign an extension.

I feel as though this is the best chance the Pens will have to win the Cup for years. I just don't see us keeping this squad together. Apparently, the Pens may have to choose between keeping either Malone and Staal, or just keeping Hossa. Yipes. I don't see them getting rid of Staal, who really started to blossom in the second half of the year, and has been a horse in the playoffs. I don't want to look too far ahead, but the future of the team is a little uncertain, and I would really like to see this version of the Pens win the Cup, since I pretty much like every single player on the squad and think everyone has been pulling their weight.

Continue to perpetuate the idea that Crosby dives and the Pens are helped by the refs so when Pittsburgh sweeps the Wings you can blame it on that. Good show.

I'm getting "Here, wanna work here longer? Oh, and by the way, build better offense or else" vibes from this whole thing :lol

GO WINGS GO.
Ty Conklin cannot, will not, and should not win the cup. NO. JUST NO. PLEASE NO.

PS: Lidstrom is the best player in this series (not Crosby, not Malkin, not Z, not Franzen).

I think as long as the Pens at least split in Detroit we should be fine. We haven't lost back to back games since February, and we haven't lost at home since then either.

That likely won't be the case at Wholey's Fish Market in Pittsburgh's Strip District. Owner Dan Wholey posted a sign at the market prohibiting Detroit fans from buying octopi during the finals.

"I'm not going to do it," said Wholey, who plans to check identification. "We support the Penguins here."

A staffer at the Strip's Benkovitz Seafood is giving Red Wings supporters more leeway.

"I would have no problem selling them an octopus," Benkovitz employee Cindy Norman said. "I don't watch hockey."

:lol

The Trib also has an article on bandwagon fans in Pittsburgh too.

So according to ESPN Franzen is out for game 1.

Hmmm. How big of an impact you guys think this will have?
The impact will be Detroit having a slightly harder time getting the sweep. But still Detroit in 4.

I would like to read that. Even in southern Ontario Canada I'm seeing a LOT more Pens fans than I've seen in a long time. I don't really have a problem with it if they stay fans over the long run, but if they're in on it just because the team is winning, then that's bad form.

Stop posting those, you'll offend all the Pens fans.

pens fans can take heart in knowing that i bet 20 bucks on detroit winning in 5. and i always lose.

so detroit in 4,6 or 7

No roberts for game 1? I think that may be a Mistake.

thats crazy, Roberts was an impact player in the games I caught of him against Philly, I don't see how they can't squeeze him in the fourth line.

The more and more hype I watch about this final, the more crazy I feel about thinking the Pens have a shot at this thing. Just about every match up possible favours Detroit, and the one thing that puts it all over the top is the faceoff statistic.

The Wings have dominated draws while the Pens have been struggling big time. It's hard to imagine the Pens being able to overcome constant Detroit puck possession and scoring chances.

Last time the Pens won the cup...

A Bush was in office.

A Clinton was running.

There was a war in Iraq.

The Giants won the Super Bowl.
