Since not even price was announced, I highly doubt the thing will come out before E3 in Japan.

And also, nothing was supposed to be announced at CES for PS3.
Sony has set aside a show in FEBRUARY for this, for the billionth time.

Danj said:According to a post on the Librie list, the release date is expected to be March/April, with a price point of $300 to $400 (which is less than the iRex Iliad's expected $500).
Endymion said:You are being a bit nervous my friend
I know that nothing WAS TO be announced, about the february festival and when Spring ends. That didn't mean that nothing HADN'T or couldn't be announced, did it?
What I was trying to say is that now that we know for sure that the price isn't being announced at CES, I think that a late march and even an april release appears less likely (which is good, as far as I am concerned).
Amir0x said:I still think US is getting PS3 in Fall 2006, so we'll see.
Amir0x said:i'm not edgy, i just can't really tell when someone is saying this as if Sony promised something, or as if something was expected, or if they just mean it like 'well, they missed an opportunity.'
Sony has never promised anything, so, if the FEBRUARY show is a bust... then I'd be like 'oh shi--'
I still think US is getting PS3 in Fall 2006, so we'll see.

Endymion said:Back on the launch matter: Fall 2006 for a Japanese debut?
Endymion said:Fact is that I don't think that anywhere in my post I blamed Sony or anyone for alluding to some revelation. But it would be completely wrong to pretend that anyone in the world hadn't hopes or expectations for new bits of information to be revealed, imho
Back on the launch matter: Fall 2006 for a Japanese debut?
That really doesn't say much, considering Sony announced pricing and official launch details for the PSP only about month before its launch in both Japan and North America.Endymion said:What I was trying to say is that now that we know for sure that the price isn't being announced at CES, I think that a late march and even an april release appears less likely (which is good, as far as I am concerned).
Speaking at the first keynote session of CES, Stringer showed a brief demo of the graphics capabilities of the long-awaited gaming system. He said Playstation 3 would support the Blu-ray Disc format and be backward compatible with earlier Playstations. Stringer added that 4,000 Playstation 3 development kits have been distributed globally.
But Stringer did not give a firm release date for the new game system. Instead, he cited statistics on the success of Playstation 2, perhaps as a ploy to sustain that system’s momentum.
Amir0x said:the whole "after all" bit coupled with a LOL smiley is what indicated it to me, personally. Because "after all" means that some were expecting it in the first place, imho.
But anyway this is silly semantics, it doesn't matter either way since you don't.
gofreak said:I'd say June in Japan, Oct/Nov in the US. Pure guesswork though.
Deg said:Some info.
Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Kaz Hirai joined Stringer toward the end of the discussion to show video footage of PlayStation 3 software in action, which included some previously-seen footage, but a number of new unspecified titles, with the mix including Sony's own Formula 1 title, the dragon-related Lair project by Factor 5, and a behind-the-plane shooter.
Hirai also revealed that over four thousand PlayStation 3 development kits have been shipped to game developers, though no names were disclosed.
Endymion said:I approve of this guesswork. I too can't see PS3 coming anytime before May. I think E3 will be used to showcase all the games and generate hype for an imminent launch (max 30 days from the show).

How about:
-Toshiba announced a $499 HD-DVD Player
-Warner Bros. and Universal both only announced HD-DVD titles. No BR titles.
-On board for HD-DVD: Batman Begins, Harry Potter, Superman Returns, The Matrix, Goodfellas, and Apollo 13

OpenOffice has been updated to support U3 USB Flash drives, the organisation behind the portable Home folder technology said today. OpenOffice 2.0 can be run from any U3-branded Flash disk. The software automatically ensures that any preferences files and documents it creates are stored on the removable disk not on the host PC. The upshot: the software can be used on any compatible computer without the need to install the application first.

Until WiFi hotspots are introduced into every nook & cranny on the planet, LocationFree TV has a limited range. Still, it's a fine technology for homebodies that are serious about television. With this setup, you'll never miss a second, even during trips to the kitchen or bathroom breaks.
Mrbob said:Put it this way, in two years time when there are 30 million Blu Ray players out there (Lets say 25 million of them PS3 systems) and there are under 5 million HD DVD players, who do you think movie studios will support? I would be amazed if HD DVD ends up surpassing more than a couple million.

gofreak said:There are actually a fair few titles missing there (the first four I checked aren't there). They seem to be mixing in previous announcements from last year for HD-DVD too, but those plans were shelved along with the first planned launch.
I've got a list of Blu-ray and HD-DVD titles confirmed at CES, and I'll try update it when Disney announce (and if Warner announce), and maybe post them then. It's hard keeping track of them all, though, as some titles just creep out of the most inobvious places (and there are those photos from the Blu-ray booth with titles not in the press releases from certain companies).
The BDA conference is at 5pm PST, I think. I'd expect Disney to announce around then. The Disney titles I've seen sofar in those photos, though, are:
Pirates Of The Caribbean
Kill Bill
Hero
Flightplan
Armageddon
Dinosaur
Ladder 49
