I'd just like to point out that the red sox and cardinals have both outscored penn state today, and their game is only halfway finished.

If that wasn't the worst football game I've ever watched, it sure wasn't third worst either. Four to six. One safety was a bad punt, nothing at all to do with the defense. The second was because the coach decided that putting us within field goal range didn't mean a damned thing, so he took the safety intentionally.

We should have been shut out.

The team lost by two points, and there wasn't a single moment during the entire game where anybody thought "You know, Penn State can win this one"

There's plenty of room here in football hell. I think you PSU Pussycats might have to take one of the shittier rooms though. :lol Seriously, I feel your pain. I really think JoePa has exceeded his sell by date. It's time for some new blood at Penn State. Gotta do it before the program becomes completely irrelevant. PSU used to be a contender...it wasn't that long ago. :( That's one of the program collapses that actually upset me. Unlike Notre Dame, I actually like Penn State in some wierd way. Hope they can turn it around soon.

Oh yeah, Hester's still a return machine, and still needs to find a place in that offense. Just put him in on a jailbreak screen and set him loose. The guy's dangerous with the ball. I hope that injury wasn't bad tonight. I didn't get to pay attention to the game since I was having dinner with a friend. Hope he gets through it and gets back on the field breaking ankles. The Canes are gonna win the championship this year. Unless OU can really win the Big12 game this year, I think the Canes are destined to win the championship. They are the OU or OSU of this year. They're gonna wina bunch of games by the skin of their teeth, but they're gonna win, period. I am really getting tired of the Canes, but I remember why I used to like them, they win big games. That's all you can ask. Win the important ones. I don't know another program that's been doing it as long or as well as they have. Wierd that I moved from them to the also-ran Gators, but maybe running at the front got a little old. I love my dysfunctional Gators no matter how many times we crumble in the clutch. There's room for improvement. I really don't think Spurrier will be back, eventhough I'd like to see him return. I think the program will right itself just fine without him. But we need to seek out some top notch defensive coaching talent, and we need to can Zook. No more excuses, he has the talent this year and blew it. At least keep us to a 2-loss season with a UGA win. We're not even gonna get that. Next week will be ugly. I'm hoping the voodoo stays alive, but I fear this week hints at an even uglier beating next week. The recruiting is fine though, we just need some new management. It sucks b/c I was warming to Zook this year, but he's not the winner that Spurrier was.

It has to be said about Spurrier that he was a winner from the day he was born. Any Heisman-winning QB that kicks a game winning field goal for his team deserves some recognition. He's a Gator through and through. He'll probably end up coaching for someone else, but if he ever wanted to return to UF, I think everyone would welcome him back. He may not have turned out to be the coaching genius in the NFL, but he's plenty good enough for UF. Anything's better than Zook right now. He's the George Bush of coaches. :lol PEACE.

The Florida Gators have fired third-year football coach Ron Zook and his staff, ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit reported Monday.

Ron Zook and the Gators fell to 4-3 on Saturday.

Athletic director Jeremy Foley will meet with members of the team this afternoon and then announce that Zook and his staff will coach the team for the remainder of the season, Herbstreit reported.

The firing comes on the heels of the Gators' 38-31 loss Saturday to Mississippi State, the worst team in the SEC.

The Gators are 4-3 this season, 20-13 overall under Zook.

His teams haven't had the swagger of those under his predecessor Steve Spurrier, who lost only six home games in 12 years and won a national championship.

When asked about his future Sunday, Zook focused on next Saturday.

"I just have to worry about this next game right now," Zook said. "That's all I have any control over."

Mid-season firings suck. Too bad for Zook and the football team that UF is taking a knee-jerk approach in dealing with the boosters.

I can only wonder if things would be different if UF hadn't been cheated out of the Tennessee game.

The Urban Meyer sweepstakes is going to be fun to watch this offseason. I know Washington's going to be looking for a new head coach too. I'll bet they're sweating now that Florida is in the market for a coach too. I can't see Spurrier going back. You can't go home again. There are no second acts in American lives. I can't think of anymore trite quotes, but you get the idea....

I should read the Gator boards, but I never did. Anyway, ding, dong, the witch is dead. Which old witch? That big bitch Zook. :D :D :D

Sorry, I'm pretty thrilled with this latest development. It puts the program in limbo, but I'm sure they'll find a good replacement. Spurrier is welcome back any day of the week. Sure he left, but he's a Gator to the bone. An alum who won the Heisman with the team, coached a Heisman and a couple contenders and won a National Championship. If that doesn't earn him free reign, I don't know what does. The only thing is he might not want to return out of fear of disappointing the fans if he doesn't win right away. But then again, he's gotta be salivating at the prospects for next year. This team is a Top 10 team right now. We've got no D, but that might well be coaching. I can just imagine the kind of numbers Leak would be able to put up in the fun and gun. And Fason's the big-game back he didn't have the last few years he was there. Everything is in place for him to step in and kick some teeth in from the word go. The D is the only question mark IMO. PLEASE STEVE, come on back. :)

Ah well, Zook better order up the college gameplan for next year, b/c I think his stock has plummetted. The UF program has only gone backwards under him. The talent's there, but we're losing too many games that we should be winning easily. Ah, now I can maybe enjoy the rest of the games. Zook should be holding nothing back for UGA. Let's give the team at least one big win this year. Middle Tennessee State can't be our shining moment on the season. :( PEACE.

Zook is a great recruiter, he did bring back talent to Florida which spurrier admitted he left bare when he left, but the guy was a bad coach who would lose games he shouldn't and win games that he shouldn't have.

I'm kind of apprehensive about all of this. Sure, Zook went and lost to Missisippi State a game the Gators should have won. He told the press before the game that he wasn't taking the game lightly and that he knew and respected Sylvester Croom, whom Zook apparently knew from his NFL days. Anyway, it seems that Zook just had things go against him no matter how much effort he put into preparing his team. I don't know why things didn't work out, but I would have liked to see how the whole year paned out before giving him the boot. Maybe let him make some personel changes over the summer and maybe one more year as HBC before getting the boot if things didn't work out. He only got 2 1/2 years. Now UF will have a new coach next year leading to the potential of a lot of turmoil. If nothing else, Zook and the UF players were very close and pulling the rug out from under Zook so to speak, can't make the players all that happy, and may cause some to bolt early or look at transfering. I just wished if they were going to fire Zook, then wait until the end of the season. But I guess Foley and Machen wanted to get the ball rolling ASAP in finding a new HBC. At least they should have plenty of time to mull over who will be the next HBC, instead of last time when Spurrier sort of took them by surprise and only looked at Shanahan, Stoops, and Zook. Meh.

Let's go Billy-ball! UF basketball rules! NCAA here we come! Woot! ;-) :p

Meanwhile, Spurrier, the coach who preceded Zook and led the Gators to a national championship in 1996 and six Southeastern Conference titles, spent Monday on the golf course at Heathrow Country Club in Seminole County. Spurrier already has been mentioned as a candidate to replace Zook.

"I'll cross that bridge if it comes to that," Spurrier told the Orlando Sentinel. "One thing I've tried to do all this year is not be lingering around acting like I'm waiting for another guy's job. I don't believe that's the right way to do it.

"But now that he (Zook) doesn't have a job, I guess there will be some discussions. We'll see what happens."

What about the dude from Washington? The guy whose name I can't spell?

Washington as in the Huskies? I don't know who the coach is, but WU sucks balls this year, so i doubt a high profile school like Florida would show any interest. Unless you're talking about Neuheisel, who might be a good coach, but is dirtier than a hobo's asscrack.

I think Neuheisal will be forced to take the Mike Price route and go to a mid-major. Price is doing alright at UTEP, though. Carson Palmer's kid brother is tearing it up a bit. Maybe Neuheisel will end up the Boise when that coach gets a better job. Then UTEP and Boise could start a new rivalry... Duel of the Disgraced Pacific Northwest Coaches.

Louisville fan here, I see another SEC team is trying to steal our coach ... which is ridiculous. We're going to end the season in the top 10 heading into the Big East next year, and have all the momentum in the world. Steal someone elses coach Florida. Hopefuly Petrino stays, if not I'm sure Tom Jurich, our AD, could get us a big name coach heading into next season's BCS run.

What are the chances of Louisville's program keeping the big boost it's getting? Has recruiting improved there? I like the coaching staff there. That game against Miami was very well coached. I like creative coaching. Looks like the Big East may end up like a Pac 10 or Big Ten next year. That's not too bad. For a while I thought it was gonna turn into skid row. :lol PEACE.

Steve Spurrier has told University of Florida officials that he is interested in discussing a possible return to coach the Gators, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Wednesday night.

In addition, Florida officials have now given Spurrier two weeks to determine if he wants the job, although no formal offer has been given and no details such as salary have been discussed, Mortensen reports.

For the love of all that is holy, Gamecocks, please beat Tennessee on Saturday. PLEEEEEEASE

Ha, ESPN was hyping the possibility that Chang would break the career passing yardage record tonight. Instead, he ends up tying the career interception record. And there's still a quarter left.

I know Florida could have played with Georgia before the Zook firing, but with falling out of the top 20, and the coach being fired letdown potential I'm not sure.

Go Gators!!, jesus christ, did I just say that ?

Bah! I overslept because of GTA: SA, and I wake to find the Sooners tied with the Cowboys and only 7:50 left in the first half. Have they shut down Peterson?

Holy shit! Fumble in the inzone? Soooners, sooners, sooners. :(

I'm thinking he'd have prolly made it if he'd have just ran out there and kicked it without having time to think about it.

He was on the sideline practicing kicks that entire last possession. Had he just ran out there and kicked, I think he would have stood a better chance. Smart call by Stoops.

Yeah I dont what the announcers are talking about though. There were two Wolverines right there to make the tackle and dude just flew right by them.
