Official Fable II Thread

So I finally beat the game today. Did it in about 20 hours. Couple of thoughts:

- Overall I enjoyed it, but the entire time I just thought of the missed potential.

- The combat was actually very fun. Visceral is probably the best way to describe it. Atleast, melee combat. Spells were a bit of a nightmare to use, especially if you wanted any sort of variety. In the end I just levelled up fire the whole way and used nothing else.

- How I wish this was an interconnected world. Would automatically make the game exponentially better. At no stage did I ever feel Albian was a living, breathing place, despite all the effort they put into the NPCs. That whole illusion was broken because everything was compartmentalised. I wanted to run straight from Bowerstone Market to the cemetary, and not be hit by a 10 second loading screen. Which brings me to...

- Loading times. Now, they're not the worst, even with my general distaste for any sort of loading. But, it just makes me not want to do sidequests. Like Slave rescue. I'd spend more time at the loading screen than I would actually fighting people and it just put me off it completely. Same with seeing my family. All I wanna do is give my wife a present so she doesn't get mad, but it's always a hassle.

- The 'work' was annoying considering how many times I missed the thing due to the jump in frame rate.

- Ending spoilers:
It was pretty dumb that you could kill Lucien with one shot, and they didn't even try and make it dramatic or anything. I chose the Sacrifice option, and now I feel jipped. A crappy statue in a crappy part of Bowerstone (yes I get the significance of the area). I should have gone wealth.

- I'm not completely sold on the idea of player choices making irreversible changes to the world in video games, and this game didn't do the best job of convincing me. I always felt like it would shove it in my face with not enough explanation of the consequences. I understand it's not possible to just give a list or something, but it was a bit annoying. It wasn't just the permanent choices, either. Like when you're in
Spire, and it says "You will lose experience if you feed these prisoners." How much experience? Why would I take the risk? I was a 'good' character throughout the game, but I didn't care enough to sacrifice my own experience. I dunno, I just think those things could have been handled better.

- The menu UI was terrrrrrrrrible. Why is it when I want to eat something, it kicks me out of the menu then I have to go back in again? Irritating. Why isn't there a way to manage your houses without actually going up to the stupid sign that sometimes decides not to work?

- Is there a better way to become pure rather than lowering rent prices? I had a time where I needed cash so I bumped the rent up 100% and it made me completely corrupt, haha. Been impossible to get back to pure.

I know it sounds like I didn't like the game, but I did enjoy it. I didn't play the first one, so it was fresh to me. I don't know if I'd be up for Fable 3 unless they made some pretty drastic changes. Like one big world. PLEASE.

Is there anything to do to fix the freezes in the game? My friend just bought a new 360 and a new copy of Fable II and it constantly freezes on him. I told him to install it to the hard drive as a temporary fix for now but i'm looking for a permanent fix if possible.

I think they feel they were clever for that. I have to admit, no one ever did something like that before.

I dug this part, actually. :D The choice was painful but I was like "fuck it, if I die, I reload; if I drop xp, I'll just grind it back".

Happened to me just at the beginning of the game. Installing did the trick for the WHOOOLE game. Also, helps with the bad loading this game has, and will save your DVD Drive. Install it, its the permanent fix =P

IDK this game seemed like it had more grey area, not straight good or evil, you just made choices that appealed to you the player, and of course any good choices involve sacrificing yourself for others, so that was all fitting

and to be more pure, eat like tofu or something

and I agree on that ending.. everything just seem to happen then
you defeat the big bad boss with one hit.... wtf you could have killed him as a child then... it would have been cool if instead of dying while just standing there taking ONE BULLET, that you would have fought Lucien face to face and you would LOSE because he was overpowered or something and THEN do the afterlife get the music box thing to make it his "one weakness" or some crap.. an example of the winning or losing would be from Tales of Symphonia where a couple of the bosses were really overpowered and if you lost then the story would keep going, and if you won it still kept going... bleh

very anticlimactic ending..

Speaking of the Dollcatcher achievement, does anybody have a complete set they're willing to pass along? It's one of the last achievements I need (the rest tied to my evil character that I've barely played), and I'm more than happy to pass them along to get the trading-chain going again.

GAF! Please help me get this achievement done. I'll be on in 10 hours from this post, is it possible we can get some trading going? Anyone else want to get in for this?

(Gamertag same as GAF)

EDIT: Forgot to mention I can also offer the 'Ruler of Albion' and 'Completionist' achievements to anyone who wants them as well, just need to join my game and you'll automatically get them.

A little late but I updated the OP with info on DLC on both Knothole Island and now new-ish info on See the Future DLC coming out this May for 560 MS Points.

That's an odd price point. *raises eyebrow*

Yeah I think so too, but maybe since there was a bit of backlash throughout the internets over the high price compared to length with Knothole Island they might be trying something new out. More likely its that itll be a pretty minimal dlc package.

Edit: Now I am not too sure after rereading whats in See the Future, we have new dog breads, three quests like Knothole Island, bunch of new items and costumes, two new expression one for the hero and one for the dog, as there is the Colloseum which is hopefully going to be a real challenge. So it actually seems like this DLC is pretty beefy and cheap, awesome.

Is there any way to change my gender back to male? I used the gender changing potion before getting the DLC and I don't feel like playing as a chick
Nope. If it's consolation, de-level physique and lose as much weight as possible to make your character look less like a dude.

Oh well, kind of lame but at least I have my dog back. Also, did they change any visual settings in the expansion? I don't have an HD-TV, and now for some reason I can barely see my life bar in the upper left corner. It sucks.

Its probably overscan on your TV, I had to readjust mine to be able to see the life bar through the service menu.

Wow. 800 points for that? Really? What a ripoff. It was pretty fun, but I beat it in 2 hours (and took my sweet time while doing so). Though I'm not sure what I came to expect, this being a Molyneux game and all. Pretty much the entire DLC was hitting those orbs around.

=/

I just noticed that I forgot to type "any" in my last post. :/

Anyway, the Knothhole Island DLC is a rip-off. I think they should have priced it 400 MS Points. $5 isn't too bad for a few more hours and all the new items.

Should I buy Knothole Island ? I loved Fable II and I want moar.
It depends on how badly you want more content. The new dungeons are short so set your expectations low. It does offer a nice batch of new items in every department except food. If you really love the game and you feel like $10 isn't much then go for it.

So looks like Fable II has been updated with new achievements. Some pertaining to the upcoming DLC, but also others that should have been there from the start, or are just funny:

The Nut Cracker (10) - 25 Groin Shots

The Paramour (10) - Make love 25 times

The Concierge (30) - Open all demon doors

The Visionary (50) - See into the Future

The Con Artist (25) - Find all 10 of Murgo's Statues

The Howler (10) - Scare five people dressed as a Balverine

The Ghastly Jester (10) - Make five people laugh dressed as a Hobbe

The Repugnant (10) - Disgust five people dressed as a hollow man

The Gladiator (30) - Score a total high score of 20,000 in the Colosseum

The Multiplicator (20) - Achieve a Multiplyer of 10 or more in the Colosseum

The Combatant (20) - Defeat the Necromancer in the Colosseum

The Fowl Player (10) - Dress as a chicken and kick five chicken during the Colosseum battles..

The Colourist (15) - Collect the dyes hidden in Murgo's magical items

Grrrr. I'm having no luck with friends and their dolls. Every single person I know has gotten the reaver doll including myself. Can anyone help me out with this achievement? GT=Sallokin and I can only really offer gold if you're willing to let me keep the set of dolls so I can pass them along to buddies.

I've done pretty much all of those achievements that aren't pertaining to the new DLC. I'm hoping it'll be as substantial as it's being hyped to be, but I doubt it will be. I'll be glad all the same. For some reason, I can't stop playing this game.

Question: My brother was playing my game and drank the sex change potion. Anyone willing to trade the potion to me so I can turn back? :D If so, PM me or reply here.

I would but that's not possible, haha. After you drink it your game saves and you're stuck with your new gender forever. If you choose not to drink it the potion will disappear. It's really mean from Lionhead. Maybe they'll be mercifull and make it a regular potion in a future DLC pack. :lol

I thought you could both go to the tomb and then you trade it to me and I'd be able to drink it while in the tomb with you. I'd visit the tomb as my little orb thing and do it there. It wouldn't work?

Okay we can try it. Add me, GT is 'me Jojo 8D'. The file that doesn't own Fairfax Castle yet only has 200k gold though, so you're gonna have to invest a little. :P

Since when were Fable II players in it for profit? You disgust me.

If you'll excuse me, I have to kill those wives which are refusing to have sex with me, and then thrust my pelvis at orphaned children. I bid you good day!

So I have to make one of my hero characters go have sex 25 more times? I wonder if the Demon Door achievement will immediately unlock as I've done that as well.

I definitely deserve the nutcracker achievement. No doubt about it. That's what sneaky guards get for stabbing or shooting me when I don't expect it.

So I am at the last mission on knothole island and I can not accept it. : [

I gives me the hold "a" to accept prompt but it does nothing, I hold it, it fills up and nothing. Am I going to have to restart this game to complete it? : (

I can not even leave the island, because it says wait for scene. WTF.

Hmm, sounds like classic Fable II. Can't think of any advice other than keep on trying.

I should count myself lucky after only encountering minor glitches (the furniture store that never restocks furniture, zombie child etc.) during the game.

I had a bit of an extended playing spree last night. It was just working at the pub and seeing what the villagers would say to me, then commissioning some statues, encouraged by Stephen Fry's reading of Reaver's diary. If they ever brought back Reaver for some DLC... I'd be happy, let's just put it like that.

The vomiting noises they put into the game are a bit disturbing, but I was smug when they told me "You deserve your title, Executioner." Still, had to massacre the whole town when some dumbass kicked my dog.

I also think one of my wives is insane: "Ooh, that's quite a spell! Who are you going to kill next, murderer?"

This is my third character. So this is really pissing me off. Lost the first 2 due to some glitches and now a DLC glitch is making it immpossible to complete. I have purchased all of albion and have 5mill Gold. : ( With like everything maxed out. sigh.

Was hoping to complete it so I could have the armor for the new DLC next week. Looks like ill be playing through 1 more time.

did you install it to your hard drive that seems to help a lot of people. i guess i've been lucky because i've played through 3 times now and have not gotten a single glitch

I've played it when it wasnt installed and it ran fine for me.

anyway looking forward to see the future dlc tomorrow. got some spare points left over from the card I bought last week for fallout. I think there's like 12 or 13 achievements. Looking forward to that.

And I finally get a dalmatian even if it's only in the video game world.

It's out tomorrow!? Argh, real life is going to have to take priority. Damn it, I hate it when that happens. Shit, maybe I'll get it anyway.

The same situation played out in my mind :lol

Im excited for the new DLC tomorrow. I saw Major Nelson giving out a few codes to get it early on Twitter earlier this morning.

Ive been happy to see both Fable and Fallout getting continued support through DLC.

Good timing! Both Lionhead and Bethesda deserve credit for their continued support of the two best RPG's of '08. Haters be damned.

Can't wait to see what this is about.

Wow man, that's a hell of a lot of patience you've got there.

I'm still waiting for them to fix the stuck wives / husbands bug. If they ever do that I'll go out and buy the game. Until then I refuse to play it (my copy of the game was a friends I borrowed. Happy to pay for it if they fix the damn thing).

Any impressions yet?

Been playing it for two hours. I'll spoiler tag everything, even things that might not be spoilers, just in case:

I REALLY like it so far. I'm by no means done with the main quests from the DLC (only done two), but it does seem to be shorter than Knothole. We'll see.

The
hobbes, balverine and hollow main costumes
do A LOT more and have much to do with the quests/story than just being
Achievements.

My
dog
is a
husky now!
There's 3 different kinds of
dog breed potions
. I love it :P

Haven't gotten a tease at all of
the Future of Albion
, but I suspect I'm close because of some things that happened during the quests and the fact that I found a
Theresa doll during one of the quests
.

Will play the rest tomorrow. Gotta sleep.
