I know too little about Inler to really comment. I've seen Udinese once or twice last season but didn't really pay attention but he played well at the Euros from what I remember (but again I didn't really pay attention). Arsene knows though.

Reyes moved to Benfica today after to failing to score in 26 games

Remember this (click here) article by Gulliem Balague in 2004, oh times change.

Not many people in England have seen José Antonio Reyes play often enough to have an informed opinion, but the general view is that he is the best of the three acquisitions made by the trio of Premiership title challengers. And rightly so. Last week, Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein was wondering if he was in the same league as Cristiano Ronaldo; in fact, while the Portugal midfielder is still learning to make his football simple, Reyes passed that level a long time ago.

I mean I've seen him play fantasticly but it doesn't seem to happen all that often.

I'd rather have van der vaart and he only cost madrid 11million.

Always enjoyed our games against Everton, I'm just glad Duncan Ferguson has retired. Weird that we're the only 2 teams not to have signed anyone (although we do have 3 new brazilians that were all signed in january). Thx for Rooney btw, blame Newcastle, you may well have had him another season otherwise. I think we're pretty much paid the max we could now. I believe Everton got like 3-5 million this summer from us due to the league and champions league.

We blame his agent Stretford, not newcastle, and looking back over the past couple of seasons Everton have more to thank Man Utds money...we got better since he left, i still prefer the way he played for us though..when he could actually take on a player

he was really good when he first joined until a certain game away from home.

He was still very good in Europe in his last season but a far cry from the player we signed and that he could have been. He scored the 2 goals for Real in their final game but even so he looked a shadow of his former self.

Shame, he had real talent. Talent alone won't do though.

Yeah, I too, like Balague, thought he would be the next superstar of world football.

Took me a second to figure out we were talking about Reyes there. :lol Rooney Robinho then Reyes all in quick succession.

Reyes fell off big time. I like to call it the Aimar affect.

I would love to have Reyes at Arsenal right now if he had kept his form. He had a good foot, some pace. Too bad he was a little fucking pussy and couldn't play in the rain.

Karlsruhe is about to sign Sergio Peter (Blackburn Rovers). I've never heard of him but maybe you guys can help me out.

never heard of him ;/

I'm surprised at how badly Reyes fell off. Wenger didn't let him go past his prime, so i still expected some big things from him. Unless 21 was his prime.

lol, yeah I didn't expect him to be shit so soon either. I mean, I guess he had a decent season at Real, but not good enough to convince them to keep him. I thought at Atletico he'd be fine, but I guess not if they're pawning him off on Benfica.

I just did a screenshot of his Football Manager page for you, they're usually pretty accurate with their stats

FIFA should team up with FM and get the most comprehensive stats in a Football game EVAR!

The FM guys used to send their database to Konami for PES, but Konami were never that bothered about it.

that doesn't surprise me

I'd love a program where I could export the player database from FM into excel, but I haven't found a way to do it yet.

It would be really really useful.

It would make sense to fucking do it. At least EA has started using a living update system on player stats. When the game came out, Adebayor was a 79. Fucking bs to begin with. By the end of the season I believe he was at least an 85. In PES, he's shit. It's annoying. They underrate some players so badly, and overrate others completely. Ronaldinho can do anything he wants in game. In real life, he didn't even play for Barca.

I don't even think Cristiano Ronaldo had ball control that could touch Ronaldinho's in PES. It was laughable.

[I don't think that any of you care, but] The Primera División de Argentina Apertura 2008 begins today! This is the first weekend of play, beginning with two matches today:

San Martín de Tucumán - Huracán (6:00 PM ET)
Gimnasia la Plata - Newell's Old Boys (8:10 PM ET)

The big four don't begin play until Sunday, except Independiente, who plays tomorrow.

God, I dream of a Football Manager 2009, where you watch the games using the FIFA 09 engine.

is that planned Cedeo? Or just something you're hoping for? 'Cuz that'd be fucking sick.

edit: oh ok, you "dream" of it

Osorio, lol. You could practically score anywhere with him. I've seen videos of people scoring with him on corner kicks. The ball would just spin into the top far corner haha

Gulliem Balague is at it again,

apparently we are after David Silva from Valencia :D

Manchester United have made an approach for David Silva of Valencia. The player’s agents were contacted by fax, yesterday, and informed of the Premiership club’s interest in the 22 year old Spanish international.

United’s move for David Silva is timely: the player has been in talks with the new regime at the Mestalla over an improved contract offer, but negotiations have stalled, with both sides said to be some considerable distance apart in their respective bargaining positions. With talks rescheduled for later next week, the news that Silva has rejected Valencia’s latest offer has travelled fast and, in spite of Sir Alex Fergusons suggestion that United’s activities in the transfer market were over, it is clear that an opportunity to sign a player of the calibre of David Silva is too good to let pass for the current European Champions.

United face competition from FC Barcelona who are also preparing a bid for Silva. The Catalans have been waiting in the wings to see how the situation at the Mestalla unfolds, and with Valencia said to be in urgent need of funds to pay off a sizeable instalment on their massive debts next month, Barcelona had been optimistic that a bid approaching €25 million would be enough to secure the extremely talented Spanish international. Silva’s prospective suitors were given further hope yesterday: with David Villa’s agent suggesting that it was increasingly likely that Valencia’s other most valuable asset would remain, it would appear that it is David Silva who will be sacrificed in order to bring some much needed cash to the financially trouble club.

The next Fifa Manager will use the 09 engine, data will most likely suck though.

Bright Future (FIFA Manager) and SI should colaborate in my opinion. Take the stats, the 2D match engine and the loads of additional content from Football Manager and the 3D/text based match engine and economical aspects from FIFA Manager.

SI should also do the UI as you can see in the screens above :lol

My friend does it all the time with Juninho in the 08 version. Really annoying.

I wouldn't like that.

On the other hand I don't necessarily believe it anyway. Having listened Balagues drivel on the Times podcast over the last year and read his articles it's becoming increasingly apparent that he is full of shit.

Liverpool supporters won't like to hear that or agree since he is up Rafa's ass so far you can hardly see him anymore, but that's the way it is. 100's of stories, all of them insider stories, none of them true. Also wouldn't be surprised if he was paid by Barcelona and Real. Cockjockey.

I would be devastated to see Silva go to United. I'd rather him stay in Spain tbh.

We need a backup winger (i guess martin will do) and a striker. I would have said we needed a new right back but I think we're ok there now, R de Silva has been very impressive, Brown can play there and Simpson can come back next season if he does extremely well at Blackburn (I expect them to buy him next summer).

Fergie can be a bit weird with transfers though, our central midfield was barebones for 2 years or so around the end of Keanes career, the classic midfield lineup of Giggs, Fletcher, O'Shea , Richardson, now it's awesome.

Fabio (the supposedly better twin, captain of Brazil u19) scored on his debut for the reserves by the way.

I too remember lining up like this, bad times.

Lord Snooty-----------------------Fletcher
-----------------Giggs-----O'Pie

Jens Lehmann just retired from international football.

There are 5 or 6 candidates now for the job who will battle it out in the upcoming season.

Robert Enke (Hanover, Barca, Benfica, Fener) was the former no 2
Rene Adler (Leverkusen) was the former no 3
Timo Hildebrandt (Valencia, Stuttgart) was the former lol
Manuel Neuer (Schalke) is a newcomer
Frank Rost (Hamburg, Schalke, Bremen) would return to familiar territory
Tim Wiese (Bremen, Kaiserslautern) is the outsider

Enke, Adler, Rost seems like the best solution to me, in that order.

I was aware that one of them was considered better than the other, I presumed since he was getting games Rafiel was that one, until you mentioned it was Fabio a few pages back. . Although the way things are Rafiel has more chance of games tbh. It's weird now that they're here, I must have first heard about them 3 years ago

I actually think Fletcher is the real deal, the end of 2 seasons ago he was fantastic and the end of last season before he got injured he was playing really well again. When we need a Hargreaves type player and his knee is playing up Fletcher should play.

O'Shea is just handy to have, I'll never forget his first season as a left back, thought he was going to be world class (lol Figo), he's never really fufilled that promise but he's an excellent loyal utility player than can play anywhere. (goalie, centre back, left back, right back, centre midfield, striker). He's supposidly up Fergies arse but the players all like him, good player to have really.

Well we have Evra, 50p head is back and JOS if needed, we're much weaker on the right.

G Nev was meant to play against Juve but didn't play in the end despite Fergie saying he would, he is 33 now and I can't see him playing much longer. :(

As well as Brown has done (best defence in Europe last season) Gnev is just a better right back. If this injury can be taken care of (big if it seems) i'd say we could get 2 more years of first team out of him, which would match him up with the legend that is Dennis Irwin, who left when he was 35.

Djemba-Djemba signed for some Danish team a few weeks ago. Thats gotta be one of the fastest falls ever.

Yeah definitely, just when coming back from such injuries it's hard to get back to match-fitness and sharpness after more than a year out, we tried it to the end of last season but he didn't look too good, Brown was great in the last month of last season, I am still undecided as to whether he should be first choice now at right-back, his displays against Barca and that cross with his left foot to Ronaldo in the Champions League final justify it, but it depends on how much Neville has deteriorated and if he comes back in time for the season. Neville's experience though is invaluable even if it is just in more of a physiological role not on the pitch, he is an excellent role model who lives and breaths Manchester United.

Hi all, only 9 days till the start of the EPL,, can't wait what with the threadbare squad, CEO resigning, total lack of new players thus far, stadium plans being called in for goverment enquiry...gosh, it's good being this optimistic. Ain't been this glum pre season since since rooney left.

Btw feel free to add my PSN ID: Dandare4444 and my GT: Danieldare4444 to OP.

Good luck for the new season all... 'cept the red shite :)

Isn't that a bit of a conflicting sentence, there's no way you can wish good luck to all but 95% of the fans in here. :p :lol

Apparently PSV is also interested in a 19 year old brazilian striker called keirrison from Cortiba. Dunno who the latest addition we be for PSV, but I'm pretty sure we'll have a new striker quite soon. Now if only we were able to get rid of Koevermans and Lazovic.

I'm watching Inter - Sevilla right now, nothing too spectacular yet. It's good to see Mourinho back in business.

Silva is a very good player, but is really not what Man Utd need, unless they play Ronaldo up front, which I suspect they might do. If they don't play Ronaldo up front, they do need a target man like Villa, Berbatov.
