Holy crap at the Ars Technica review! I read all 23 pages. This guy knows his stuff and nobody else has mentioned just how much more there is going on under the surface. Puts other reviews to shame!

Safari 4 seems to be much faster than FF3.5 now. If it weren't for noscript and ABP, I might consider switching.

So yeah called Apple today and they said that my "Snow Leopard" order just shipped today.
In other news it turns out that I'm saying "fuck it" to Windows in general. I was trying to install XP Home Edition SP2 (via Bootcamp) but its just wasn't working out, and really don't see too much of a need for it. I'm just about to cancel my pre-order of Windows 7.

Sadly the Grapple themes don't play nice with my custom CSS for the UI I made. I'd have to play around with it to make it look right again. I like the buttons really since it makes better use of the space. My only problem is I don't know how to make the icons show up since the theme hides them. I hate that. I use the icons to tell what tab is what. I assume CSS could bring it back. But I don't know the structure of the XUL.LCfiner said:The GrApple Tangy theme is the one I found closest to Safari. yeah, I like the auto text correction stuff too much in safari to leave it but Firefox isnt quite as shitty a Mac citizen as it once was

I'm stuck waiting for new scanner drivers. It's weird, the only time I have ever scanned slides (I don't expect many people to even know what these are) and now I can't finish them. Image Capture works with the scanner, but it can't automatically scan x4 35mm slides in one go and automatically save them out as jpegs. The scanner software was brilliant in this regard.
Canon did reply to my email almost immediately and say "2 to 3 weeks" though.

wow thanks everyone... this is awesome. I'm on Leopard 5.8, upgrading to snow leopard tomorrow.
So been running SL for a few weeks now, and its probably the most polished and stable x.0 release Ive ever used. It seems more stable than 10.5.8, which is amazing in itself. Its also eliminated 90% of my major annoyances with Leopard, which is impressive. Still noticing small changes/tweaks/animations everyday.

I just had a weird hang. Safari became unresponsive, so I killed it. After that, I tried to restart my computer, but every time I did, it would simply close one open app and stop. Every instance of trying to restart would simply close an app. Until there were no more left, and it closed the finder, but still didn't shut down, so I was left with no menu bar and just the dock.
Luckily, clicking on the finder int eh dock booted the menubar again and I was able to finally restart.

After having my MBP for a couple months i don't think i ever even saw the beach-ball in leopard but snow it pops up at random times, scrolling in Firefox/iphoto and videos keep locking up. I think this started with the EFI firmware upgrade i'd get a pause every 1/2 hr or so but the last video i tried was doing crazy jumping at one point then was fine for the rest of the time. I suppose that's something to do with the drivers like Mr.Wonderful mentioned.
Although i've only just done a restart since installing so i'll see if that helps any now.

I liked it better when it searched files on the computer.
But now we have the superior and indispensable Spotlight. Don't know how I ever got along without it.... until I am forced to use a Windows machine for a few minutes. Then it all comes rushing back to me.
Spotlight is fast enough these days I sometimes use it as an app launcher like many other people do. I have DragThing, and I have my Applications folder in the Dock, but the third option of Command+Space then type the first couple letters is just heaven.

Just noticed an interesting new problem - Skype no longer recognizes my iSight video camera since installing Snow Leopard. I know the camera still works because I tested it in Photo Booth but when I start up Skype it says "no video camera connected." Anyone else have this problem?

Well, the problem in 10.4 was that the Spotlight results window... kind of didn't officially exist. It wasn't an app, it wasn't a window owned by any app, it just sort of was there once open. You could, at times, completely lose the window and not be able to find it again since it had no owner.
But, it would be a super-simple fix; have it work the way it works now (as part of the Finder) but give the detailed search results that it gave. And, hell, at the same time, build that interface into the Finder period. The ability to use those filters and separations on the fly in any folder I'm in in the Finder would be so, so nice.

I really liked that. Spotlight in the finder in 10.5 was considerably less useful.
Fortunately, just using spotlight int eh menubar is sufficient for 95% of searches. I only wish there were a "right-click -> Go to folder".

It takes a bit of effort to work, and is not as seamless as in 10.5. But I paid 70 dollars for the thing, and I still haven't run out of toner so I am fine with the added difficulty. I am looking to replace this one with a color laser printer once the ink runs out.

To be honest, I don't no why I never tried that, I just assumed it if was missing in a contextual menu, it didn't exist.
