It's embarassing that Nintendo kept the lower US price despite crazy tariffs, and sets such high prices in lower income countries

What's with electronics manufacturers ripping off central and southern American countries? I hear Brazil is also getting fucked in the ass regularly.

I don't understand why the pricing of the Switch 2 is so high in Mexico. Here in most of Europe, even with our ~20% VAT on almost all non-essential goods, the console was priced at €470.

Is there a local distributor that handles the Switch 2 release in Mexico instead of Nintendo doing it themselves?

i live in Guatemala and the preorders on a gaming store where do i buy games are around $666 dollars so its something similar. the thing is ppl outside of US like me, if you want a switch 2 you need to import it, so let say if i can grab one online (its a big IF) you have to pay 450 bucks to buy it and then all the import tarifs and the shipment cost of the company you use to import your stuff adds up. btw of course you have to pay US taxes too so its $481.5 (btw you can ask amazon for that money back but that's another topic)

so to me the cost is $654 if i buy it, versus paying my local store $666 bucks. the preorder (btw they are asking $62 bucks to save your switch and pay the rest when they give you the console)

to me it's not big of a deal the difference in fact i rather buy it from my local store because they are gonna have 100% the switch 2 on release.

ps. OP wants to pay the $8817.98 pesos as if he lived in the US. (im assuming he's mexican) sry if not.

Another day anothertread moaning about the Switch 2 pricing. When we all know the Switch 2 is going to break console launch records. With a launch title like Mario Kart how we every doubted this is however a mystery.

I don't think Nintendo has an official presence there so yes its a distributor.

It's time Nintendo starts expanding officially to more developing countries and stops using distributors.

It really should cost $9,000 Mexican pesos because Mexico's currency is stable and strong... But Latamel is the one who abused the price.
It should be cheaper than the final cost, but we also must pay 16% of the price on Local Taxes plus import duties, and costs of importing and distribution, plus local advertising, those are not free and those are always paid by consumers.

In fact, the plan was really to buy it if it were really the 450 dollars and the price of 9,000 real Mexican pesos, I would even understand 11,500 pesos, and buy 3 games and a Nintendo Switch online subscription... But since Nintendo doesn't stop to think about it and even more about the Keycards,

I'll wait... It's not an emergency, although I'm already ready for day one.

Latamel is the responsable.

In fact, they've always been abusive with their prices since the PlayStation 3 era or earlier... They're responsible.

This.

It's embarrassing how dumb Nintendo is handling Latin America, it feels like they're intentionally avoiding any real effort to thrive in those countries.

It's US$800 in Brazil, so $690 looks cheap in comparison. I'll never understand why Americans think $450 is expensive.

Not to mention that the average income in the U.S. is vastly higher than in Brazil, and prices are much fairer when you take that into account.

First worlders will never understand the pain of living in an underdeveloped country.
That's nonsense. I've lived in the U.S., Europe, and Asia — every place has its own serious problems, some of which don't even exist in Brazil. Don't focus only on the financial aspect, and don't have a colonized mindset.

wow , My bet was $10,000.00 pesos

$13,600 it's a lot...people Will keep playing Switch 1 , You can get they Oled one for $5,500.

Mexican marked is similar to Brasil in the sense that a Lot of people play on old systems due to the cost of new ones. You would not believe how many people still uses Vita as thier portable console.

There is a place in México City called the Friki Plaza you can find there all old and new consoles, and there are similar places around all the country.

Nintendo is screwed in México if those prices are real.

With tarifs, at least with consumable goods they will probably will

On the otherside, Im still surprised Mexico is cheap by Brazil standards

While true, people can still complain about prices. Especially knowing Nintendo and their profit margins on dated (binned) tech.
The people who complain are core hobby gamers. The masses that buy these consoles could not care less. Or are even aware this is being discussed on niche internet forums in the first place.

And I calculated that it would cost $12,000, which usually goes up to $3,000, and yes, indeed. Many people are still on PS3 or PS4, I never thought it would cost more than that price, it is almost the value of PS5 and not many have it, I went to the friki plaza to see if they had Rule of Rose and they were giving it away for $40,000, (2.000 dollars) those people really inflate the price and ask for a lot of Limited Run games
