This game is awesome. I started playing Saturday morning and did not stop the whole weekend. I am now on disk 3 and had a couple of questions...
1st. are there any secret bosses?
2nd. how do I find them?
3rd. Are the dreams in order? If so can i go back to get them?
4th. Weapons...why are they so scarce and what are the best ones? Rings/Accessories?

I know I am asking a lot...any help is appreciated. thanks.

1.
Yes, there are several, but only on disc 4.
2.
In disc 4 you'll get two new ships that have special properties that allow you to reach otherwise inaccessible parts of the world map. Most of them are in those areas, but there are a few that require you to revisit old areas, such as the Sorceress' Mansion.
3. Yes, they're in order, but several are very easy to miss. You can go back to get the ones you missed once all the sealed-off areas are unlocked in disc 4.
4. Weapons have no special properties beyond their stats so it's easy to tell what's best. Accessories and Rings are obviously very situational.

How are the sales on this game...I have 4 friends on my list playing it...only 3 that had DMC when it came out...I am loving the game so far and would love for it to do well enough to warrant a sequel.

Anecdotal of course, but my local GameStop had 26 pre-orders, and sold out of the 6 extra copies they got on day 1. No idea how many copies the local Target and Best Buy got in, but they were both sold out by the weekend.

Quite a few playing it on my friend's list as well. I sure hope this game sells like mad.

Yeah, round here, went through 1 local game store, best buy, wal mart, target, and a gamestop. All sold out. I found it saturday in another gamestop. The guy said they had sold out quick, had to get another shipment.

anecdotal x 2 = trend?

I wonder if there's a chance in hell we'll get a sequel?

If the Gooch announced that the only way he'd make a sequel is if gamers would suck him off, I'd be the first in line asking for the man meat.

Well one of the local Best Buy stores was sold out.

Well I'm close to finishing disc 1 and I must say this is the best rpg I've played in a very long time (yes, besting Mass Effect, which I didn't think would happen so quick). However, it's also simultaneously the most depressing, heart-wrenching game I've ever played.

Can anyone think of a more depressing storyline for a game? I cannot.

The graphics, music, everything is just top notch. Everyone remotely a fan of rpg's should pick this one up.

Agreed completely. You actually feel for Kaim in this game. Great storytelling and the short stories are actually quite touching. I haven't cared for characters in a game in some time so that alone is a testament to LO. I'd also like to second the notion that I too thought the kids would be completely and utterly annoying but color me impressed, their VO is adequate and their character is charming.

Hopefully good. They're actually advertising it so hopefully that pays off. I'm still surprised though, everytime I hear White Rabbit coming from the TV. I thought MS would send this game to die.

What I like about Kaim so far is that he does show some humanity. Other characters of his type tend to be stoic no matter what, but I've already seen him break down a few times in the game, and the stories go a long way in showing what kind of person he is.

just got it and played for about 3 hours

is it just me or is the framerate not as bad as the reviews made it seem?

ruinning around or in battles it is really a non issue. Some cutscenes have framerate issues but nowhere near as bad as the technical nightmare Mass Effect

There's a rumor going around that the final review copy was not nearly as smooth technically as the retail copies. I noticed the same thing, all the technical problems reviewers complained about were either non-existent or a non-issue for me.

I'm so glad that LO is seemingly selling very well. Good news for JRPG fans, and most importantly, Mistwalker. This game deserves all the sales it gets.

Reached the infamous "song scene" with the children and it wasnt nearly as bad as you made me think it could be. Yes, is a bit more cheesy and naive than previous ones but i ended up liking it and it was nice showing some more emotional roots between the characters.

And the cherry of the cake was Jansen comment about the picture and the way Seth looked at him xD

I'm only about 4 hours in. I'm on my first adventure I guess you could say, right after you leave the first town. Man this game is fantastic. The short stories are great, excellent reads. I've seen about 4 or so and really can't wait to come across some more. They do a great job at bringing some characterization to Kaim without actually seeing him do anything. I'm only a few hours in, but he's already a much deeper character than most other ones I spend the entire game learning about. And Jansen. . . I see great things for him throughout this adventure.

And this game looks fabulous. I totally get a FF6 and 8 vibe from it. I'm also pulling a little Suikoden 1 from the music and atmosphere of the game. Speaking of music, bravo- Blue Dragon and this are truly amazing.

They're much easier in "courtyard" area there. Later on you'll come across them in pairs with about 20k HP each. I was running from them even at lvl 65.

So, I don't get it; if Cryon is supposed to be the game where Sakaguchi wishes to make gamers cry, what exactly is LO? The game, by far, has the best scenes of pure emotional energy I've seen in a game.

Will Cryon make me commit seppuku because I'm so sad :lol

Wait so people are having problems with the torch minigame? Is that the horrible "funeral" thing you were all talking about? Jesus that was fucking easy =P. Though not being able to save for a whole fucking hour got to my nerves.

I'll say it again, I love Lost Odyssey

This made me lol.

Anyway, did the worm boss once last night. I beat the first one and I was like "That wasn't so bad." Then the second one appeared... fully charged. Game over for me.

I decided to go back and try to get the Anti-Paralyze skill before I try the boss again. Maybe see if I can't get some rings forged, also.

Keep at those little guys and use a lot of Prism.

Just be prepared for the big shot when the new worm appears and you should dispatch him in quick order.

I really liked that scene, as it got you more involved with the proceedings (instead of just watching a cut scene). And at least it was much better than the preceding fetch-quests.

I actually enjoyed that small mini-game and ALL the scenes. Very much in fact. Are there any walkthroughs for this game? I know I've missed some stuff, like an Aqua Ring attack, some "Ground" shit and some dreams maybe. W/e..... gonna enter Crimson Forest 2morrow. BWahahaha

Oh my God, the Sorceress' Mansion was boring. The Black Cave was pissing me off because I kept falling through those damn holes, but I finally made it out and into the next town.

This game is awesome. This is the rpg I've been waiting to play for a long time....and I didn't even know it! So happy that I bought this!

Damn Disc 4 is loaded with quests:

Went back to the mansion cause whatshername was pining for some old poetry book. I'm like "Zzz whatever" but yo what the heck I run into a
secret boss: Persona
. Now this was a
pretty tough fight
but I pulled through thanks to using a ton of
bombs(Double item rules!)

Then I went west and found some secret snowy area. There I found the
secret boss: Blue Dragon(who looks nothing like the dragons in that other Mistwalker game)
. Anyway that was a pretty silly
fight because the boss is healed by any elemental attack..so needless to say my ring-equipped melee characters were out of luck. I was stuck spamming Forcea(two characters x double-spell) doing like 1600 a round while the boss pounded me with some badass spells.

The
Backyard
is damn cool btw.

I'm loving this game!!
:D

Just made it to the
Black Cave
on Disc 2. I haven't had this much fun with an RPG in sometime. I mean, I liked FFXII but I was really enjoying the characters and the story was missing a really good protagonist. Mistwalker has done a good job with character building in this game and they haven't let it get muddled up in the political back story.

I love everything about this game. I just can't stop playing it. My only complaint is the robotic acting (Resident Evil PSX) during the real time cut scenes but at least they aren't always like that. I was so expecting the kids to be annoying/poorly written characters but to my surprise I really like Cooke and Mack, they kind of remind me of Palom and Porom but are developed far more than those two ever were. I just want to take this game behind the middle school and get it pregnant.

And Jansen is just a joy. We need more characters like him in games.

Mack and Cooke are great characters, there's nothing at all detrimental about their place in the game. Old school FF caster costume design on em fucking rules, too.

And as I've said earlier, they represent what's got to be one of the best motivations to join/stay in a party in an RPG, ever.

I haven't read the thread much at all, so this has probably already been said: Why the fuck are the reviews so bad for this game? Sure, it has some flaws. But the story is good, the battle system is good, the music is excellent. It basically feels like a Final Fantasy game without the generic final fantasy junk in it.

Ehm you can change your rings, equipment and accessories infight everytime you choose an attack. ^^

Finished up the
"royal seal" quest today....man what a disappointment. I was hoping for an epic boss fight against the golden knight and all I got was a "choose the right ability test" for Tolten :( Stupid Tolten! I hate you!

I'm also missing 2 pirates. One in Kelolon Village and the one in Gotzha. No idea how to make them appear. Any help?
edit: WTF? Just found the on in kelolon village and now I found them all?

I'm gonna just ignore your comments about generic FF because the main numbered FF games are still good and I'm gonna assume you're rightfully just speaking about stuff like Vincent May Cry and Crystal Crapicals..

Anyways, this game is suffering in reviews because:
-It's turnbased: apparently for western game reviewers everything MUST be real time or it's not good
-Random encounters: I could do without these personally, but I don't think it's an evil horrible sin
-The review version sent to many mags/websites was a slow loading technically gimped version that doesn't run as well as the retail version people are playing

No need to get so defensive. I don't hate FF, but I'm just really confused why this game is rated worse than Eternal Sonata. I played FF12 a year ago, and honestly I'm enjoying this game much more. I'm talking about the overly effeminate male lead formula (still some of that in here, but not as extreme), but the story is completely different. How there has to be chocobos, a guy named sid.

While final fantasy differs between each other, this one makes some major changes. The story so far (I'm at crimson forest) isn't a typical final fantasy kind of story. Most notably I think that the battle system is a massive improvement. Having a more than 3 characters, and the tiered front/back levels and having to shield your casters adds a lot to gameplay.
