Had some time to get backto the game. I´m 30 hours in and still in Black Cave. I´m runnning out of MP too frequently and dont have any mana items (and i´m looking ofr slot seeds, i need them specially for Sarah).
.

You may already know this but it might help:

If you save and quit at a save point, you will have full HP/MP when you reload. This tactic has helped me countless times. If you find you have a little ways to go before the boss, heal up and equip turn tail to instantly flee from battles.

Just got to Disc 3. Experimental Staff really was one of the most frustrating mazes in the game so far. By the end I was just spamming flee so I could get to the end of it. But now it's all good.

Also of note: This Game Fucking Rules.

I just started LO, and am about 2 hrs in, but I'm not sure if im missing something. Is there any penalty to Skill Linking, or can you just have the immortals learn every single skill? I don't want to keep Skill Linking if there is a limit, but if not, it seems kinda weird that you can just have Seth and Kaim know every skill the mortals know.

I know it probably doesn't mean much, but LO has been sitting on the 360 top five bestsellers for a few days now

Where is this?

I think the word of mouth might help it a bit too. It sounds weird but I saw someone on my FL this morning at Level 10 (I think that's where you start? Anyway, it was early, he only had two achievements [yet another reason Achievements rule that has nothing to do with PEINS]) and I was like "YES! A CONVERT!"

Not only could it do well, but it could have a nice set of legs. A JRPG that doesn't rely on a multiplayer pool of players could really turn out to be an evergreen.

non-japanese resident gamers, you better keep buying this. I want more Mistwalker awesomeness in the future :)

End of Disc 3 side quest help:

In the refugee camp, a seller is asking me to kill a boss that only appears when I make a certain number of gaylups (sp?) cry in the trail area.

I've killed more than 20, nothing happens. :/

edit: oops.

The song that plays during most of the dreams seems very similar to a song in a movie. I can't place it. Anyone have an idea?

Anyway, having trouble powering myself through disc 2.

This is probably an odd question, but how much damage will you usually be able to do at endgame levels? I'm a bit of a stats whore, so this interests me.

Blue dragon didn't even make the top 30 or whatever for amazon, so who knows. I hope LO is able to succeed here.. and in europe. Fucking japan.

Kill one or two per round. One should cry every single round, and within about three rounds the "boss" should turn up - it's pretty much just another one of the dinosaur things, though, it's not special or anything.

Thanks, i didnt remember that.

Got rid of the beast and its minions at black cave (i suppose is not the boss yet).

There is no penalty for skill linking, so you can learn every single skill. But you also need to equip the skills with a slot seed and there are very limited amounts of slot seeds in the game.

I personally think LO will be a success in the end. Japan is full of a bunch of criminals letting this game flop.

Oh so you are getting it. I thought you were going to skip on it?

Yes, that was my plan. But the reactions here and on other forums, the reviews and the fuckawesome commercial have made me change my mind. I still hate that there are random battles, but maybe the other aspects of the game can make me forget that archaic mechanic. I hear the story and characters are worth it, so that'd better be true.

Damn those little Elmon's in Ice Canyon, they steal your stuff, one of them stole my DLC accessory hehe...i found a way to get them back but it's a little annoying....quite a few chests that I can't figure out how to get to in there as well...kinda hard to see some paths in the snow ;P

The random battles are spaced out well, the encounter rate is low, I've never felt annoyed by getting drawn into a battle in this game.

The only time it got frustrating was in the tail end of the Experimental Staff on Disc Two. Load up on Turn Tail...

Blimblim

The Inside Track
Looks like I'm almost done with the game. Went back to the main story and did some stuff there. I'm ready to move on to the next (and likely) last part.
The last optional dungeon was great in term of puzzle, but it was so vast that the random encounters even as spaced as they are got *very* annoying. I really wish they had included a way to make them disappear with an item like in many other RPGS. When all my characters are level 80 there is no point anymore in any battle.

Same thing is going to happen in the final two dungeons on disc 3, too. They're too long for their own good.

I really enjoyed the last two dungeons on disc 3. Agreed, they are a bit longer than others but still fun for me...

BTW, I just started disc 4 and found the second dream that got me slightly crying:
The Ranking of Lives
. The first one was the very first dream.

That game even surprises me after over 55 hours!! I love it!

Good it's well worth it and released at a great time.

I just finished Disc 2 and while I know I still have a long way to go, I do not want this game to end. I am already planning my next RPG. How does Blue Dragon compare to Lost Odyssey? Are there enough similarities that fans of LO will have fun with BD?

I asked this in an earlier page, but is there really any advantage to using Sarah? Considering Seth and Kaim are the only non-casters I have at this point, should I just wait to get another brawler?

I honestly think not. Just another spell caster in my eyes and preference on who you want to use. IMO. Unless I'm missing something as well.

I think Sarah is a faster caster than Ming, but with less HP. Or has better magic attack or something like that. I know when I compared their stats, I felt that the drop in vitality was worth it for whatever advantage Sarah had.

Anyone else annoyed at the lack of boat music?

Seems like Uematsu composed 2-3 boat/overworld tracks but they only play in your boat interior...

This is the only JRPG I have ever played that has no overworld music. Really baffling!

The music is good but the arrangement is kinda shit to be honest.

Yeah, I was also annoyed by not having overworld music. I really do like the boat interior music though.

Hey, so I was checking around for the soundtrack online when I noticed it was 33 bucks or so, I'm totally ready to buy it but eh, anybody think that there is a chance it'll get a release here in the US? I mean thats a lot of money, especially considering none of the track titles are in english.

This is also a noob question but I've never bought an imported CD so is there any kind of region specific thing to worry about like dvd's?

I bought the Japanese release of the OST. I doubt the soundtrack will come to the U.S., but you can still hope.

Also, there is nothing to worry about it if you import the CD. Works fine on my CD player.

No I mean the arrangement of songs on each scene.

Like having no boat music or having no music in tosca village or the pirate hideout.

This game has really good music but theres not enough of it, it doesn't envelop the whole game. Too many empty feeling areas.

The sfx work is pristine though from birds chirping to armor clanks, it's all VERY solid.

But still, this game has one of the coolest vehicule in a while and there is NO music when you are using it... Makes the game feel rushed and unfinished to me.

I don't know if I would say it feels unfinished. Honestly I figured it was just a choice the developers made to include music or not on the overworld part. I mean even if they didn't make any over world music persay, they could have just put one of the other slower melodic tracks in no problem, like the map music in the background. But I do agree that I wish there was some music playing :p

There are other things making me feel like it was rushed.

Graphical hitches abound, the end game side quests are plentiful but very unpolished. Monsters start to repeat near the end.

Khent city actualy disapears for no reason after some events in the game. You don't see or hear about it's destruction, it's just not there anymore...

Shit like that, it's a really solid title and I enjoyed it alot but I wish they had 6 more months to make it shine. That's the difference between good and great.
