Where did you leave off?

I'm finding LO to be a completely different game on the second half of disc 3 onwards. A much better game to be more specific, even though I enjoyed most of the first two discs.

Disc 3 is just filled with pure awesomeness.

Ah, I think you won't be disappointed. I took a break around the middle of disc 3, then came back a few weeks later and haven't been able to put the game down.

Just gotta beat the Temple, the Backyard, and then go for the end... right now I'm hunting for the last few Seeds, and then grinding to get all the Skill Master achievements, so I'm at a kinda boring part in the game, disk 4 would frequently DRE on me (this has subsided a lot more lately), not to mention I had some personal issues to take care of, both of those factories killed a lot of the willpower I had in making through this game, but now I am back.

In Lost Odyssey, how in hell do you skip the starting battle sequence? It takes way too long to actually get to the actual battle, honestly. I'd like to skip that. Way too long.

Hey, someone please help me out. I NEED to know if there's such thing. I hope it does because if it doesn't well, yeah.

I'm still confused about Divide and Leveller. Well, Divide just divides the Caster's HP against number of enemies and deals that as damage. Leveller....well I've no idea what that does.

And finally, there's a few spells I am missing that I need to get my Spell achievement - Reflect is one of them and some of the Level 3 Black Magic spells are missing too - are they in the final dungeon?

Divide deals damage based on what your current hp is whilst casting the spell if hp is 1 damage is 1 if hp is 9999 damage is so too. Leveller deals damage on the amount of hp you've lost to the enemy, if the enemy hasn't hit the caster then it's 0. At least thats the way I saw it working when I was fighting that last backyard boss which was annoying.

Nope, yeah it would speed things up a bit but it's also part of the hidden loading going on so it's better then a black screen with a loading text at the bottom.

so...I kinda ran out of steam and reached my common problem in lengthy RPG's, my interest drops off near the middle. Especially a game like this with random battles and long load times. It doesn't help having replayed mass effect with super fast combat. Though I am glad that LO doesn't have elevators :lol

I am just a little into disc 3, anyone else recommend finishing the game? Is the story worth it? Does the game continue to offer cool new locations (its a stunning looking game)?

I would say continue...Disc 3 is full of epic-type story sequences and disc 4 the game opens up with a lot of boss battles and sidequests.

The story is still trash on disc 3 (and 4), but at least the game remains to be fun. Lots of sidequests open up too later on.

I really felt they let the narrative slide a bit on Disc 3. Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed Mistwalker managed to hold out so long before resorting to
countdown train sections and sewer dungeons with water-gate puzzles
- but I know an RPG cliche when I see it, and I recognise that it's usually a good sign that the well's starting to run dry...

Or maybe this is proof I'm just started to become a little bit too jaded; I reckon a newcomer to the genre could play the whole game through without passing much criticism to the story. Nevertheless, I still think this is the most entertaining RPG I've played in the last 4 years, especially now I'm starting to unravel the free-roaming delights of Disc 4.

I can't wait to finish it. Would you guys say it provides a satisfying ending? Am i alone in my dislike of Disc 3? Did I just have a bad day? :p

....well I wouldn't say it's trash ....but yeah, I guess alotta GAFers felt that's where it really took off...I felt that's where it took a nose dive =/

don't get used to it....it's only like the first 2 bosses that really provide the challenge

Just got it and enjoying it... but still a little disappointment after Blue Dragon. BD was so polished and everything felt as if it was just as it was intended. LO has some good bits and others that feel so stilted and awkward that it takes me out of the experience. From the fixed camera angles that distance me from the character, to the treadmill way he walks, to the tiny strips that make up the locations. A lot of aspects that were due to hardware limitations originally, and feel so out of place and personally unwelcome. Blue Dragon always felt a bit plastic, but at the same time it felt like a complete world. I can't say the same for LO, at least at four hours in.

Concurred ....now, granted I haven't finished LO or BD ....but I can't help feel I enjoy Blue Dragon more overall

The ending right after the final dungeon? No. :[

I personally didn't like Blue Dragon from what little I played. I don't mind traditional RPG's in the slightest and I enjoyed Dragon Quest VIII, but Blue Dragon felt like Dragon Quest Lite coupled with atrocious character designs (compared to Toriyama's other work). I recently got Blue Dragon for cheap though so I'll still play it at some point, but I have a hard time believing that it's a better RPG than Lost Odyssey.

I do admit that it had pretty visuals, screen tearing aside.

Started disc 2. Haven't left the first village yet but I went to the atoll and leveled up to 49. Great place to level up skills as well. You could get 16 in one shot.

What party members do you guys recommend using? I just got the chick with the glasses and I already feel pretty overwhelmed with choices. (and too many casters)

Finished the story at 77 hours and 800 achievement points. I'll probably try to grind out the full 1000 at some point, but I just wanted to get the story over with. Good game (technical issues aside) that restores my faith in Sakaguchi, much better than the thoroughly average Blue Dragon.

I do wish the combat had held up after the initial two bosses. Other than a little struggle on first entering the Temple of Enlightenment, most of the game was a breeze, which was disappointing after having to actually try and think about a strategy for fights early in the game. One you have a decent selection of skills and some rings crafted, most encounters offered no challenge at all. It didn't help that I think I stumbled into the cave under Gongora's Mansion too early and thus got overleveled. The level cap in other parts of the game helped with the challenge, but then Gongora's Mansion capped out too high considering how weak the enemies were in there. Ditto for the Temple of Enlightenment. After clearing the temple my immortals were in the 80s and still gaining xp at a decent clip, which is broken IMO considering the enemies in there are easy to defeat once you figured out the "trick" for fighting each one (such as sealing Baballoons while having absorb fire or status immunity equipped). One more thing: Divide is ridiculously overpowered. Equipping everyone with enough hp up skills to get at or near the HP max, then casting Divide equals ownage of almost anything in the game.

I think the story fell apart on the 3rd and 4th discs, and the ending was a disappointment.
Why didn't all the immortals return to their world? I thought earlier in the game it was mentioned the dangerous rise in magic in the mortals' world was due to the immortals' presence. After Lirum's death earlier in the game and the tone of many of the dreams, I expected something a little more bittersweet for the ending. The wedding was just sappy, and Ming marrying plus Kaim/Sarah looking forward to the next millenium of immortality was just baffling after all the angst earlier in the game about losing loved ones.

The ending aside, there were still a lot of great moments in the game, like discovering that Kaim and Sarah were the children's grandparents and Seth was Sed's "momma", Sed constantly giving Tolten a hard time yet finally calling him Highness at the end, or just fun diversions like Cooke's battle in the Kelonlon Village. I did like all the characters although the costume designs were kind of ridiculous, especially for the female characters. That thong on Ming was terrible, but the miniskirt on Cooke's battle costume and then the loli wedding outfit...wtf.

Still the best console RPG I've played since FFXII (although that one also had a story that collapsed after a promising beginning). Looking forward to Cry On.

What's with the Jansen hate?!? He's by far the best character in the game, and the only thing that differentiates the main story (dreams aside) from any other JRPG. Well, at least until Sed.

He is a genuinely funny character in a JRPG, which I have never seen before. Well I have, but it was always in that funny in an unintentional way. His actual design though is just so terrible.

By the way I need help. On the 4th disk
I am fighting the Blue Dragon, and I have no idea how to beat the bastard. Forcea and Shadowa are the only things I have found that seem to do damage, but he still takes me out before i can kill his ass. I was going to go the gamefaqs route, but I prefer to not scoll through a spoiler filled walkthrough if I can avoid it.

I got back yesterday and have been doing some sidequest and discovered Gongora´s secret cave. It is a good place to level up before going to the temple of Enlightment.

Also finished the light/medium levels of the backyard which was pretty fun. How many difficulty levels does it have? it felt a bit to short and it was promising.

Btw after playing that section, i wished the game would have been more challenging as they had the ingredients to make it not only more difficult but more fun also.

Also, two questions about Gohtza low town:
- theres a khent that ask you to go back to wohl (begining of the game sequence) and get some tokens from fallen comrades. Is it pssible to get back there?
- very close theres a sublevel in that corner with some people i can´t reach. There was a shop there i think but is closed now. Is it possible to get down there?

PS: from what i read in the March NPD thread the game seems to be around 500k worldwide.

Yep, from late 30s to 49 do Gongora's Secret Cave.

Then from 49-60(?) do outside the ToE. Then go inside ToE until you stop lvl around 80 or so.

There's several SP tricks like Numara Atoll and the silver keletons as well.

Just beat it (finally). Enjoyable game, even if it does peak way early. I guess the next things I'm looking forward to are Infinite Undiscovery and The Last Remnant.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
I'm nearly halfway (I think) through disc 3,
Just after everything goes mental, Currently in control of Seth and Tolten in Uhra, on the run. Gongora has launched grand staff, ousted Tolten, Kaim and Sarah just got splatted? Leaving Cooke and Mack somewhere. Oh, and Ming and Jansen are on a train, in a bubble, about to freeze, nice.

Apart from that all is rosy, I'm enjoying the game immensely, the storyline has dipped in my view from Disc one, and only just has picked up in the last few hours of play, I hope it continues to rev up, as it were.

Oh, one thing, I love the Skill Link system, and how the game seems to drop hints that using "support" characters like Mack is a good thing once in a while, if only to steal his juicy skill sets, excellent.

I'm at the exact same spot, and am loving the 'grandness' of the story at this point.

I've finally finished this game. The ending was kinda lame but now I've gotta go back and get my all skill-related achievements. The Treasure Trove achievement can get f*cked as far as I'm concerned.

But yeah, overall I really enjoyed Lost Odyssey - I'm a huge fan of these old school RPGs and I hope the genre doesn't die out to other FFXII-based combat games.

I have 98 seeds and I can't find the last one. I've done every side quest and learned every skill but that one. I'm really enjoying the game but I'm gonna go crazy soon. I just want to be done at this point.

After playing Crisis Core, I'm finding it hard to get myself to play this again. Maybe I've begun to realize that Lost Odyssey's characters, as fresh as they may be in relation to what is considered "standard JRPG fare," don't grab me as FFVII's character's did/do. The world is less interesting. The plot...I'm halfway on disc 2 and there is almost no plot to speak of -- just a series of events strung together by brief moments of schizofrenic character development (the Kaim in the novellas shows little resemblance to the Kaim in the game).

Finished this last week. The ending made me
sadface when Sed sees Seth get pulled through the mirror :(

Cool game though. I got most stuff, except for the Treasure Trove achievement, and I haven't quite finished off the last boss of the backyard yet.
