Official Sony E3 2005 press conference thread

Twice the performance of an SLI'd GF6800 doesn't sound particularly amazing to me and the actual performance of the hardware shouldn't be that much more than an Xbox 360. PS3's cell configuration was always way over-hyped and the version put in the PS3 was always going to be dissapointing to some because Sony set (as always) ridiculously lofty expectations and through out the hype and rhetoric to support these expectations. I think it's the feature set of the hardware and particularly the Blu-Ray support (long speculated and recently in doubt, now confirmed) that I think should unsettle Microsoft the most.

SPECULATION: There is an Apple Cinema display that is such a high resolution, two DVI inputs are required to drive the full resolution digitally. The resolution exceeds the maximum specifications of the DVI cables. It requires a specific dual DVI NVidia card and of course a specific driver.

Is it possible (since 1080p was mentioned for the PS3) that the dual HDMI ports are there to future proof the PS3 in case future displays could accept dual inputs (for 1080p+ external data sources)? Just a thought on the reason for the dual HDMI ports.
Are maybe dual screen games on one ps3, no more split screens.

So, is it cool to use a handheld as a controller now? Tell me GAF, I gots ta know!!

Anyways, I'm not really a techie, so can someone break this down for me. Is it better than the X360? Less? More?

Come on, someone break this stuff down for us.

Sounds like the PSX.

And I suspect it will come with a PSX price tag.

IF they expect to include all that and come anywhere near the 360 price...welll...forget making any profit for a good number of years.

*sees ps3 design*

ehhhh... *shrugs*

honestly, not that much nicer looking than 360, but nicer.

I'm still buying all of them of course :D

apparently sony likes the spider-man font a little too much.

I don't think its look that great either...the black looks nice. The 360 actually looks a bit better. Can't wait to see what the rev looks like.

oh and slot loading is a bad move imo.

So it look like the GPU will be roughly equivalent to x360 so the main difference will be that PS3 is nearly twice as powefull in raw Gflop performance as x360.

Nice.

Any idea of general availability and price?

The PSP will be a major bonus for PS3 owners. You can have remote access to your PS3 from your PSP, and you can even use a Wi-Fi connection within PS3 to use your PSP as a controller for a PS3 game.
:lol Connectivity.

1) Ugly!
2) Spider-man font makes me hate it more!
3) PUT THE SYSTEMS ON ITS GODdAMED SIDE YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES! My stuff don't swing that way.

Endymion, its not worth getting into a slanging match, for one thing the 360 APU is a completely differnet design from the Nvidia chip. It could be said that the 48 ALU's in the 360 gpu are 48 pipes, the Nvidia GPU will not have 48 pipes, so even the higher clock rate means nothing. Go to B3D and you will be suprised, there actual PS3 developers posting on there. And agian no the PS3 does not smoke the 360. It does look really nice though.
