Official Sony E3 2005 press conference thread

i dont think Dual Shock will work on the PS3... no ports for it (?)

also that Nvidia GPU sounds like a PC part :/
 
I'm all for getting rid of the DS controller but damn this new one is extremely ugly. When are you gonna learn to put the analog where the digital is sony??? I cannot stand the way the analog sticks are on ps2.

Hahahahahahahahaha. Microsoft just got a big lesson in industrial and system design from the master. Love it or hate it, the PS3 has the sort of look that gets people talking. I personally love it, although the Spider-man font is a bit naff. It's good to see Sony finally playing to consumers by including SD and CF slots, as well as Memory Stick. Gigabit ethernet was predictable, considering Kutaragi's comments yesterday about connection speeds rising (remember, these are supposed to be around for 10 years, this is intelligent futureproofing) and it means that Cell will be able to cluster efficiently.

Sony, I salute you. You've taken my wildest expectations and exceeded them. Tomorrow is do or die for Nintendo, and will either be the day they turned it all around or the final nail in the coffin. Exciting times.
 
I've never used the term before on GAF, but it's never been more appropriate.

:lol good...Sony's doing its own damage control. I doubt it was just a mockup though. Are there any specs on if its just a normal controler or does nintendo have to hold off on letting us see what they have to offer?
 
I hade a huge PS3 boner, and now I'm flacid again. WTF, I wanted proper change, not a monstrasity....MS's camp is looking mighty tempting right now, I'm a controller whore and If I can't use a DS2 on it. FUCK IT I'm not even getting the thing.
 
Some things I noticed from the press release

1-Full HD (up to 1080p) x 2 channels (via the dual HDMI outs, I would think)

2-Sound Dolby 5.1ch, DTS, LPCM, etc. (Cell-base processing) (in game DD and DTS surround?)

3-Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g (wi-fi built in!!!)

4-AV Output Screen size 480i, 480p, 720p,1080i, 1080p (sounds like the X360 resize filter thingy)

5-SACD SACD Hybrid (CD layer), SACD HD (it plays Super Audio CDs and WTF is SACD "HD" ...Blu-ray based, perhaps??)

Xbox 360 also has an UMA set-up so let-s wait a bit before trumpeting potential problems for one console or the other: I want to hear more about the GPU first ;).

Well,even if it is comfortable they still have the left analog stick in the wrong place,move it to where the d-pad is fuckers!

You haven't even held the thing yet. It looks like the basic DS design has been maintained. Quit your whining this is like your 4th post bitching about the controller! :lol
 
Fuck me. I was just getting really excited about a Playstation console for the first time, and then they come out with this controller bullshit. Damn you Sony!
 
General feeling:

PlayStation 3 console > Xbox 360 console

Xbox 360 controller > PlayStation 3 controller (fugly piece of donkey shit)

Considering Nintendo's financial position, they're in no danger of dying. They are, however, in danger of failing to halt their decade-long decline into irrelevance (in the console arena, anyway).
 
I suspect that if the backlash continues, Sony may retool the DS3.

Console design is fine, in a PC-Engine Duo sort of way. Doesn't impress me as much as the Duo did back then though.

The controller though is the most stupid looking design since the Amiga CD32's pad.

:lol The only thing we've heard about Revo is that it's gonna be wierd. It's gonna be the adams family, under your TV.

Edit: There might be a reason why they didn't release the console (plural) and controller pic (singular, one color only) together. Hopefully they saw a huge wave of hate on the internet and are now reconsidering the white/silver/black DS2, with slight modifications. :)

That's cool. But the controller, WTF MOTHERFUCKERS? It's a major OMGWTFBBQ moment, x10000000000000000000000. Wall Guy? Fuck wall Guy, PS3 controller is the new punching bag. We must make fun of it until Sony grows a brain and re-designs it.

And what really friens my bacon is that that they didn't even make it better, just worse! The analogue is the wrong place, no triggers. WTF WTF WTF!!!!!
