I don't understand the logic of people questioning 70 fucking bucks for an AAA video game "because of the economy". Or people used to paying 60 and now complaining about the 10 dollar increase? What the fuck do you do with 10 bucks these days? Buy bubble gum? It's fucking ridiculous. If paying 70 bucks for something you like hits your economy in a significant manner, how did you even afford a PS5 in the first place?

It's not like you're saving 2000 dollars on a car deal or something like that.
It's a matter of principle. If Sony wants to charge an extra $10 for a next gen surcharge then the charge has to be justified. Does the remake have next gen visuals? No. Does the remake have next gen gameplay? No. So the addition of 3D audio, haptics and a 60 fps mode is worth $10? Most if not all studios have done this for free. Most recently Capcom.

Then there are questions on the remake effort itself. Does the remake have new cutscenes? No. They are using the same motion capture data, same voice acting, and same editing. Does the game have new bosses? New enemies? New levels? So far we dont know. Im sure if they showed up with brand new boss fights and incredible new enemies and setpieces then people would be far more willing to pay for this remake. Right now, the remake part of it is very iffy. You are getting the same exact levels and story, but with newer graphics and newer combat mechanics. A decent effort for a last gen game on par with a $60 TLOU2 albeit half as long and without any new levels, boss and content. Not a ground up reboot like say Remake 2. Another $60 game. The fact that it is missing factions which came free with the $60 PS3 version makes the $10 surcharge feel even more odd.

No one had any problems spending $70 on Ratchet which was a 15 hour game with no mp. It looked and felt sufficiently next gen. TLOU remake doesnt. No one had any problem paying $70 for Demon Souls which itself was a remake similar to an asset flip, but again it looked next gen on Day one and shipped feature complete with online play not cut out. TLOU remake just has way too many sacrifices. Last gen visuals, cut online, recycled cutscenes, and all for an extra $10. I bet at $40, it wouldve been received very well.

Aren’t the majority of PS5 games $70? If so, that’s just standard pricing, so nothing out of the ordinary.

If this was on PC I’d pay $30 max.

video games to go DOWN in price?

Game developers are constantly making record sales RN. Every publisher on the market RN is richer than they were in the 90s. they've got no excuse

I chose yes for me since I never beat the first and never paid for it. The old fans and owners of the first game should only have to pay $40 the same way Diablo 2 Resurrected was $40. Sony more greedy than Blizzard, confirmed. It's nothing new.

Even when a game is released, I never pay full price for it. I'm always looking for good deals.
I already own the PS3 and PS4 Remastered Editions, and I intend to buy this when it comes out on PC.

I wouldn't say it warrants the full retail price for a game that doesn't add any new content.
If you already had the Remastered Edition, it should have been a $20 upgrade, and $40/50 for Retail.

I would spend $70 IF there were additions beyond implementing the tlou2 controls and ui clean up.

Imagine if they included Bella and Pedro's models for the remaster/remake and also had their voices for the dialogue. We all know that the show is going to take some liberties with the story so why not include those? Or have added levels like the left behind dlc.

They could have Anna torv do modeling for tess and have a "prequel" section where it shows them going house on people like they alluded to in their conversations. I feel ND has to add more than "updated visuals" to a game that's already been released twice

They should give an upgrade price for those who own a previous copy of the game, it would make more sense.

I agree with this, I think if you have purchased the remaster to give a big discount to the remake would make sense.

This kind of synergy, in the age of digital purchases of media, should be seen everywhere -- for instance, on amazon if you want the hard copy, and the kindle version, and the audiobook, why can't you get all three? If hard copy is 25, and kindle is 15, and audiobook is 15, if I could mix and match (choose 2 of those 3 for say 30 dollars, or all three for 40-45?) I feel like I would do that a lot more often.

It's a lot harder in gaming, but for instance if I could get Silksong for both Switch & PS5 for say 90 dollars instead of choosing ONE console for 60, or buying on BOTH for 120... I feel like I'd be pretty tempted to pay the 90. But probably wouldn't be too tempted to pay the 120. If that makes sense.

But the reality is they probably have a ton of data on this and these kinds of things don't make the positive financial impact I suspect they might. If they did, it would probably happen more often.

*Looks at Avengers*

NGL, they got me with this one too... and it even had a demo! But I haven't revisited this game since the first week of release.

However for me, even that is a case where I'm happy to have supported that game; I have friends at Crystal Dynamics. Me preordering that game contributed to some of them keeping their jobs. So me getting 1 clear burn in the market is a small price to pay in that context, I would have bought the game pretty much no matter what.

How can u justify this for 70 dollars ,
20 or 30 yes ,70 dollars for a remake of a ps4 remaster , released for ps3 is a fucking joke

They don't need excuses as long as it sells.

Not all games are created equal.
Exactly, which is why you get way more value and replayability for the MCC. Also, this game is priced the same as TLOU2 when it was released. The value for the purchase is simply not there considering the sequel costs the same amount, and it's missing the MP for the original version. $70 is a cash grab for a second remaster.

Two things: Firstly, you do correctly point out that Factions will not be in this game but fail to factor in that Left Behind will be.

Also you say TLOU Part 1 does not look or feel sufficiently next-gen and I just have absolutely no idea how you or anyone else outside of ND could possibly know that.

We'll see if the market will accept it or not, if people pay $70 it's because they thought it was worth $70 to them, it's their money.

It's one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, a massive commercial success, remade with state of the art technology that to this day very few games can match and assuming they updated the gameplay with some advancement from TLoU Part II it should benefit a lot from that too.

Worse case scenario just wait for the price to drop or for it to hit PS+ Extra, problem solved.

It is absolutely laughable that this is $70.

I am a big Sony fan and will definitely not buy it at that price. The Ratchet & Clank Remake wasn’t full price and that had much more changes from the original.

Gaf will pay and preorder this just like they do with any game, doesnt matter its bad or knack or whatever, gaf always buys the dumbest shit. People were trying to figure out excuses why they bought the gta trilogy remaster lmao. Fucking idiots. This thread means nothing. That being said, TLOU remaster might but with a huge M be a good purchase for those that have not played it especially if they do it justice and from what I've seen, they kinda did?. As for me, the owner of the ps4 version, PC when its super cheap.

I think people that are willing to pay $70 for this are crazy. It's the 3rd iteration in 3 generations and there is already a version that plays on the PS5 that also includes the multiplayer. Like GTA5 and Skyrim this reek of milking the hell out of an IP. Additionally, even though the character models may look somewhat more realistic I HATE the way they have made them look either uglier (Tess & Ellie) or weak (Joel). That said does selling this game for $70 hurt me in anyway? Nope, so if people are willing to buy it why not.

When I first got my PS4 last gen Sony sent me a coupon/discount code to get TLoU for $10. Was it worth it? Oh, Hell yeah. I didn't love the game nearly as much as the hardcore Sony fanboys, but it was a decent game and well worth $10.
They shrank his shoulders, made him look soft.

How can I justify paying $70 premium on a game that’s already had all of its development return (outside of graphics update) returned to them from the fiest two releases?

Answer, I can’t and I won’t buy it for anything less than $30, probably $20 because they were greedy fuckers.

Not for me.....I bought the original game, and the remaster......I wouldn't consider the game at full price, one day in a sale maybe......it's not like the game holds any surprises.

Back when we were expecting TLOU remake to be packaged with a touched up version of TLOUII AND the new Factions, I said it would still be a tough sell at AUD$125.00. No game is worth AUD$125.00 at launch, let alone the unnecessary third release of a cinematic-heavy PS3 game that's missing a third of its content.

Sony are milking their players for everything their worth.

Over 70% have said no, Sony, time to wake up. We've all played this game at least twice, better graphics and controls is nice but it's worth $30 max.

This is GAF. We've played TLOU already. Many of us still have a copy and could play it again if we wanted to. We're not the sole market for this release.

If you'd never played the game before, would the latest version of the game be worth the asking price? Yeah, it would.

I don't know how or why but the subtitle "In this economy?" made me laugh out loud.

It's worth it for many people. For the ones that it isn't they will wait for the price to go down to buy them.

Maybe we should be asking if Switch games from 2017 are still worth 50 dollars...
Probably becuase it's been used as a punchline so many times by people with not much income to justify themselves with a hint of irony. Except in this case, the current economy actually does suck.

A game is worth what people will pay for it. Why does GAF keep having this conversation around pricing? Is it because it generates discussion because it's 100% subjective?

Edit: I'm just asking for it with my Demon's Souls avatar, aren't I?

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I'd only pay full price for a remaster/remake if the original game is too arcaic by my standards or if the remake/remaster is adding a lot of new shit aside from graphics.

I haven't been following this remake developments, but if all it does is giving the game some newer graphics then no, it's not worthy 70$ imo, nor 20$ nor nothing. Bad remake, fuck that.

If they are improving the combat and stealth mechanics, and if the enemy AI get's improved, then maybe? In my case probably not for 70$, but maybe 20$ or so.
That's more subjective tho. Even if I don't buy it I'd still consider it a good remake.
