Outer Worlds 2 - Story Trailer Released - Xbox Games Showcase 2025

Looks like the writing is just as annoying as the first game.
I'm hoping they have toned it down just a slight bit. That was the one fatal flaw of the first one. It was an overload of annoyance on top of a game with great mechanics.

Edit: Judge Dredd-esque companion is pretty cool.

capitalism is the best! I'm in. First one was fun and that's all that mattered to me. The character designs were meh but overall I had a good laugh playing it so I expect 2 to be as good.

Great trailer, but I was so disappointed in OW1 that they're going to have to show some amazing gameplay, mechanics and player agencies...and not double down on the irony to rope me back in.

More far left trash from Obsidian. Writing seems to possess the subtlety of a nuclear warhead.

Man, one of the best studios in the history of RPG's have thoroughly lost their way. It's legitimately tragic to see.

The Direct is pretty good. This is shaping up pretty well.

errrrrr what? Old Obsisian and current Obsidian are two very diffferent things.

This new team is basically no one except for Sawyer left from the old days.

I guess that's my point. They're Obsidian in name only, and it's just sad to see.

ah I see.. yeah it sucks. Can blame Microsoft for that.

They acquired the studio along with inXile around the same time and gutted staff from both to cost cut. CLockwork revolution from inXile looks a lot better than this though.

Loved the after show presentation of it

I really was not sure initially from previous trailers but this definitely did. A lot more systems than the first one, looks fun as hell.

I like the TOW 1 and i don't mind playing more of it, looks fun to me, i wonder if there is any tie in's to the 1st one or revisiting the same location here and there or is everything new.

This is the most interesting game coming from Microsoft, to me. I liked the first game a lot. Would buy the 2nd game but it's on GP so I'll definitely be trying it.

They just had to throw in that little dig at "capitalism" at the end.

The "socialists" that you pander to don't buy your fuckin game. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
What?
The flaws of rampant capitalism is a target for everyone. I mean the US President, not known for his lefty views, has been railing against it for months.

When did Microsoft 'gut' Obsidian? One studio they never laid anyone off from it's only grown.

OW1 was near completion before Microsoft purchased the company wasn't a game they directed, excited by this and a bigger budget. inXile has never had a miss either Clockwork with a big budget most anticipated game tbh

People need to realise that people don't stay with one company as employees for 25+ years.

Day one on Game Pass with this. I enjoyed my time with the first, loving this kind of style sci-fi and its weird like universe, it resonated with me very well. Everything shown with the extended side is right up my alley in every way. Can't wait.

I'm sure you and all of your comrades will play this game at launch.
I will join my comrades in the gamepass collective to play at launch through our communal games library where everyone has access to the same games regardless of wealth. Well we Party Collective members (PC) get more games for less money, but that is due to our service in dismantling the capitalist apparatus that was GFWL.
Gamepassers of the world unite!

I expect this to be a lot like Avowed. Visuals look a bit similar, so I think it'll be more impressive in person when you're playing. Specialty guns appear to be taking the place of magic.

yeah melee combat in avowed is something else actually. it feels like they were really proud of the melee gameplay mechanics they made for avowed and decided "well why not use it here too". i'm not too mad, shooting in outer worlds was not that great, so i'd probably prefer a melee style gameplay in this one too

it will probably have companions again like avowed and outer worlds 1 so it should be easy to find someone to tank shots :D

man i really enjoyed 1st game but hated how abruptly it ended. this game has a hefty price tag so it better deliver a better ending this time

I went with a stealth / ranged ranger character so this shouldn't be too far off for me honestly. The bow actually had a few subtle things that made it really fun to use for the duration of the game (and the guns as well). Not holding L gave you a mid range camera for up close, then you can hold L to turn your position on the bow and go for the longer range zoomed in. Handguns were great as well. I had the starmetal long gun also and was just 1 shotting almost everyone at the end.

If the combat is as decent as avowed i could just buy it when it's 20 euros and just skip all the dialogues.

i played wizard with a sword so i don't know how guns and bows play out but i will probably try them more when next big update hits and when i replay the game

Same, I had a sword made from Starmetal and used it during the rare instances I had a lizzard in my face.

Will this be free on Epic at some point like the first game?
I did not know the first one was on Epic store. If I have it in my library( I should) maybe I can mod it to use DLSS. The PC Gamepass version only has FSR 2 and thats no good.

I assume OW2 will have DLSS similar to Avowed. As well as Frame Gen.

Take my $80...

Probably after 5, 8 years.

I might have missed it, but did they confirm anywhere that save data from the first game will carry over, or not?

Really liked Avowed, don't plan to touch this and trailer didn't change my mind at all. Just could not get into the first game.
I think Avowed was a pretty major step up over Outer Worlds.

From what I am seeing here, seems like this will be a step up over Avowed, simply going by mechanics and systems they have shown.
