Do everyone hate that game??? I loved it!!! Best arcade FPS/TPS on this gen-console. Actually, I think its the only real arcade shooter. Well, that game was one of my favorite but gived up because of:
1- No keyboard=yark!
2- My 56k connection did give me a lot of problem
3- No keyboard

When you get comfortable with the game play, this game was hardcore, espacially in the "Coin Mode" online and I loved the basic Story Mode too. Anyway, this game is one of those that make me remember till the end of the time The Sega Dreamcast....

PS: Some similars games like Outtrigger does exist on the XBOX/PS2??? online is a necessity

I can say it's the last FPS I played. I bought it at the summer's end really cheap and I enjoyed the multiplayer a lot.
The music was pretty cool as well.
Count me in !

Kind of loved it because i was so good at it but it lost its fun once all my friends refused to play against me on it.

Loved it and loved how it offered both third and first person views. I cleared everything in the 1P mode and replayed it over and over again, then took it online and played as much as could. I wish there was still a way to play the game online; it was a lot of fun. This is the only Japanese-developed FPS game I can think of, too.

It wasn't the first arcade game of its type though; Midway put out a game called "War" that was a FPS using a trackball in the late 90s before Outtrigger was released.

One of the first console games I played online. It was also one of the few online dreamcast games I played. This game scared my console online gaming experience. It was not the game itself, the whole game was very fun. It was the realization that I could never play it online after the servers went down. :(

A lot of people hate on this game, but I think its multiplayer was a lot of fun. Sometimes it's nice to stop worrying about the technical nature of a game and simply run around killing everything. And the single player mode was a surprisingly exciting experience. Though not the best FPS on the console -- Quake III clearly holds that title in my eyes -- Outtrigger was still a lot of fun. I just picked up a few extra Dreamcast controllers, so I think I need to give this game a few multiplayer runs before hopping onto Street Fighter III tomorrow.

Great game. I only play it w/ the twin sticks though... I have two pairs.

^^

I thought everyone knew that... Honestly, I don't see how anyone could enjoy the game fully w/ out them...

second most intense duel game after geomatrix.

nice character detail

bigest problem, too many downgrade of texture for dreamcast port, almost as bad as PS2 in some place.

great frantic action at 60fps.

Missed a real solo mode to be really worthwhile.

I don't remember playing QIII a lot on DC. Unreal Tournamant was a better game for me, even greater than my PC version(need to understand that my PC was shit, 20fps.ugh...)

breakdown beats outtrigger my friends. granted there arent more Jap-PS's to choose from...
how its better than Outtrigger??(dont talk me about the visual, nor about the story(breakdown got a REAL story)

Terrible fps, worthless level design, ridiculously gimmick 'single player experience'. There was some interesting weapons and the graphics were great for a dreamcast game.

I give it a D-

Always one rotten apple in the bunch

Outtrigger >>>> Heavy Metal: Geomatrix

Geomatrix was dull. Like Capcom's equally bad DC title Spawn, HM: G offered no-frills mission of killing the enemy, and little else. For a Japanese-developed FPS, Outtrigger was much better.

That said, I'm a big DC UT fan.

Eh, this game was mediorce at best, much like the entirety of the DC's library. But it made a good quick demo, for a system lacking in quality titles. Unreal Tourny was much better.

UT < 30fps

Outrigger = 60fps.

That alone made Outrigger the better game IMO. Frame rate means a lot in an FPS. I found UT damn near unplayable.

I couldn't stand Quake III and UT on the DC. Quake III ran smoother from what I remember, but UT had a lot more levels available. Outtrigger, Spawn, and Heavy Metal offered much smoother gaming experiences.

I loved Spawn. Just like UT and Quake III, it was all about the MULTIPLAYER. The game was made for its 4P play, and my friends and I played the shit out of it. There was definitely some bad character imbalance going on, but we all worked around it.

Heavy Metal was less "FPS" and more of a Virtual On style game though. I enjoyed it, but wished that the characters had more they could do or some unique special moves. The biggest disappointment about Heavy Metal was the lack of 4P split screen play though. This really should have been a 4P game; you had up to four characters in a match anyway.

I for one liked Outtrigger. Everyone tries to compare it to UT or even Q3A, but OT is an arcade FPS. It's not meant to be like UT/Q3A. In a way it's a little shallow, but it's also very fast paced and something different from the standard FPS fare. It is what it is I guess.

One thing though, I do agree with those that didn't like OT on DC because it's control scheme was ackward, at best. The default setup was a joke, but there were a few that were okay. Playing with a mouse though gets past that problem though. I had a lot of fun. At least for a little while (the game came out right at the end of DC's life, I really don't remember too many people ever playing online).

Geomatrix didn't hold my interest all that long, but I do remember enjoying Outtrigger.

This is the only Japanese-developed FPS game I can think of, too.

Robotica, Saturn. It was horrid. And there was Maken X, too, I guess.

The only way I'd consider Outtrigger more of an 'arcade' FPS than Quake 3 would be how simple it is. It's not as fast as Q3, that's for sure, and it's a hell of a lot easier to get into.

Didn't know Robotica was Japanese. I just remember seeing "Acclaim" on the box and staying far away from it. :) Wasn't there a Robotica sequel made too?

Forgot about Maken X...that was pretty fun for what it was. There was also Maken Shao for the PS2, which was just Maken X played from a third person viewpoint and wth a few extras.

Acclaim had brought it over. I think the original had Daedalus in the name or something. No clue who developed it.

Well that is exactly why I'd consider OT an arcade FPS while I probablly woudn't Q3A. In general what makes an arcade game an arcade game is how simple it is and easy to get into. And at least on DC, Q3A wasn't as fast paced (maybe not in speed, but in terms of kills) since OT had more players and smaller maps.

Ahhhh the memories! It only seems like yesterday when I was loggin on to Japanese Outtrigger servers in the wee hours of the morning {to satisfy my bouts with insomnia}. Great fun!

AFO kicked ass as well!

AFO... now there was an overated game. Slow. Pointless. You name it. Worse of all it took away from Outtrigger and Ooga Booga which were both 100x more fun to play online that that voice chat room of a "game".
