Yeah but Mercy it's not punishing. McCree (and most others) you use the audio to duck for cover or target them. Wonder if it's just the actual player's audio that changes or if everyone hears the change.
How does it exploit anyone?
Making loot crates allows them to give you a random change to unlock some of the best stuff in the game quick as opposed to a 400 dollar carambit knife for $400 dollars with a .000000001% chance to drop
I'm not going to spend a dime on this game and if some rich ass tween wants to buy 5k in loot crates and fund dlc for me so be it.
yeah it's like "Heroes never die!..... for a price" on her Imp skin. Genji and Reinhardt don't change at all on the legendary skins I have. Neither does Tracer, so I really doubt McRee does very much at all. I have fought people with the skin and I don't recall anything different than "It's High Noon". Blizzard took the audio for this game really seriously, so I just can't believe they would have this oversight.

The more I play Overwatch the more annoyed I get by not being able to just buy skins like in League of Legends or Heroes of the Storm.
If Blizzard allowed that I'd already have 3-4 skins purchased easily. Even if they were $10-$15 a pop. Whereas the current system almost guarantees I won't spend any extra cash. I have no desire to buy a loot box that'll most likely contain a bunch of junk I don't care about.

See this is so weird because they had a ton of backlash from people for this system in Heroes. League got away with it because of reasons I guess. If they charged that much for skins there would be a thread just like this one with different complaints. No winning in this situation honestly.

But in heroes there is no other way to get the skins, you can't get them with the in game money. I suppose that is why people don't like it? What people want here is the random drops AND the ability to buy the ones they want.

I cannot fathom someone spending $80 in a system they seem to despise so strongly. I really...really cannot understand this. You are basically telling them you are MORE than happy with it by giving them another $80 and then turn around and complain about it multiple times in a thread.
you prestige after lvl 100 and then loot boxes come faster like they did when you first started playing. xp per level caps at 22,000 iirc, which is around level 23 or 24.
Yes. You reach level 100 and go back to 1, indefinitely, so there's no cap.
XP needed to level up stops raising after level 22 (or something around that) too.
Once you have established a collection, loot box numbers are pretty stable
1 random legendary on average every 20 boxes
~2000 currency every 50 box bundle
Pity timer on legendary seems to be 30-40 boxes
My last bundle I got ~2050 credits with only one legendary credit drop (250 credits) and 2 legendary skins.
I haven't bought smaller bundles. But at three 50 box bundles myself and around a dozen from other friends the numbers above are pretty rock solid after like 50 boxes opened. So any skins I want to buy in the future I know will be $50 and I can afford two of them.
Ok, that's pretty sweet since there is no loss of weapons like in CoD...
What do you earn from prestiging?
From what I have read the cap is 100, and after level 23 its 22,000 for each level.

Yeah it's funny people asking for skins to be purchased individually. I think they are assuming skins will be like $1.50 each or something.
I can't even imagine the reaction if Blizzard charged upwards of $20 for these legendary skins. Also think about the reaction if that legendary skin was also in a loot box that someone got for free leveling up. lol

I just feel like being able to buy what you want for the characters you want makes a ton more sense than a slot machine. And even if you do win something it could be a skin that a) you don't like or b) is for a character you don't like (or both). The whole system is no bueno.
It's only cosmetic, so it doesn't discourage me from playing, but it's a bummer for sure.
Definitely not. Would easily pay $15-$20 for skins and be much happier with that than the current system.
But that's just me. No doubt some people would complain in that instance also.

Every game you can buy what you want does not offer the skins for free. That's the flip side to the coin. Random and get stuff for free. Or get nothing for free but purchase directly what you want. My guess is, despite this thread, the other one would be complained about even greater...

For what it's worth a dupe legendary here is worse than a legendary coin drop. Dupe leg skin turns into 200 credits but the leg coin drop is 250.
Wouldn't bother me in the slightest tbh.
But ideally they would either not have the current system in the game at all or just turn that dupe into currency for me to buy a different skin of my choice at equal value.
At least the dupe = currency is in the game currently. One saving grace of the system in that it seems like you can eventually start grabbing stuff you want as borghe mentioned.

I don't see that being the same thing. You are buying 50 boxes of chance, it's expected that you'll get many of the same items.
I'm talking about someone who has taken the plunge and decided to purchase a skin for $15-20, then turns around and wins that skin soon after in a loot box. I can't even imagine how disgruntled that gamer would be.
I actually got a legendary coin drop last night and it was for 500. I wonder if it's random?

Yes, there is a consumer friendly scenario. Blizzard can just price the skins for less than they are in HotS, because HotS is a free game. So if they sold 1000 Gold for $3 or even $5, people would spend that money to get their character's most desired skin. However, if they do a stupid pricing like it is in HotS, then they deserve to be called out for ridiculous prices. League has great skins and they are generally cheaper than HotS, you are looking at $7 per typical 975RP skin compared to $10 typical HotS skin. Also, Riot Points are cheaper in euros where $1=1 Euro on the Battle.net
People want an opportunity to buy items that they desire. Game developers have noticed that, therefore, they implemented an RNG gambling system to exploit it. Even MS stated that the reason the new Gears 4 has random items is because people only prefer to buy what they want, which is not going to maximize profits.

after level 100 your xp resets and you get a new border. there's a star per promotion on your border and then it'll turn silver, and then gold.

Dunno if they call it prestige or not but AFAIK that is the system they are using. You level to 100, reset, new badge, rinse, repeat until you level 1890 times.
If they've changed it from this I haven't seen any article or news on it.

Once again don't really despise the system, I just recognize it for what it is instead of being in a constant state of denial.
this thread is filled with people saying the system is not gambling, well by definition it is. Then it's well it's only cosmetic stuff so who cares, turns out those cosmetics change audio cue and in that effect the game play. Also people in denial that this is the only way MTs can work in this game, nope many other games have done it more consumer friendly.
Overwatch is a great game just has, as the giant beast cast put it, an evil MTs system.
I find it really harsh to call it evil on a developer that is famous for providing insane support for titles over 10+ years after release. More money from MTAs means more money to fund development with. How is that bad?

No microtransaction system is good for the consumer. It's just not. Anything that developers lock behind something you need to pay for (or can acquire quicker by spending money) is something they could just give you.
The only logic I can find that says it's good for the consumer is if the consumer is willing to agree that the game doing financially better is ultimately good for them in the long run, but that's a very far flung argument to make when you're trying to defend microtransactions.
But Blizzard's system of microtransactions here is far from egregious. It's not popping up and asking you to spend money, the game presents everything you could get and shows you how to get the things you want without asking you to buy loot boxes, etc. While I get that some people are upset that loot boxes are tantamount to gambling, again I will point out that they are far from egregious. Take a look at the mobile space with games like Monster Strike, Granblue, FGO. Their gacha systems make loot boxes look like free handouts.
If you want to say that microtransactions don't have any place in a full price game I will grant you there's an argument to make there, but if you're trying to say that Overwatch's microtransaction scheme is somehow worse than what is standard in the industry right now.. I'm afraid you're just a little out of touch.

But how does earning loot boxes work after hitting level 100? Does the game continue to "count" every level and provide a loot box w/o your actual level going up past 100?
