Pachter was right about PS4 graphics

You've made this post like ten times today dude :b

I love these, but you have to remember that they're completely linear on extremely narrow paths and most of what you're seeing is a non-interactive background facade.

That's a very valid point, but... I sincerely doubt that isn't also true of the Killzone footage. Not to say that the Killzone footage doesn't look better, because it does.

I thought the visuals were a huge leap. That IQ, those shadows, I didn't notice any aliasing, and it was a low quality stream(even in hd).

lol, i'm more than impressed.

This was indeed amazing! Just to know, Killzone is still in a Alpha stage! It looks already more then amazing to me! I've never seen such scale and detail in any other game..even on the PC. There is so much happening in the background.

For once, I'd have to agree with the guy.

The visuals, while definitely pretty, did not feel like a substantial leap over PS3.

Am I the only one that feels like we're truly getting diminishing returns?

They do seem like a substantial leap to me. These are launch titles and they have a true HD resolution. Sorry, but some people really just don't have good enough sight to be able to judge aparently.

THIS is the gen where art direction and creativity will make the difference. This is the gen where graphics are on the point that anything can be achieved artisticly. Last gen was faar off.

I guess I'm not really sensitive to graphics like the rest of GAF. Because while there is no denying Killzone "4" looks better than anything on PS3 and X360. My take is that it doesn't compare to the gap that it was PS2/Xbox to PS3/360 even if you ignore the jump from SD to HD.

If the deep down footage was real time, and representative of what the game will look like, I'd say that's a bigger leap than PS2 ->early PS3 games.

Eh, I think it's hard to judge. If MGS Ground Zero is PS4, than I feel it is a pretty good representation of the evolution between platforms.
I think that's a pretty great leap. How GZ will look when it's out though, who knows. But right now we don't have much to go off of

So I thought everything looked great except trees and plantation, is this gonna be another gen where we see even more super detailed character models that will stand out even more in contrast next to shitty looking environment?

Some of the comments in this thread are priceless.

It's a huge step up, as expected.

They really are, some of the back breaking maneuvers being displayed to downplay the PS4 already are hilarious.

It looks like a graphical leap to me, the type of leap I was told to not expect, day one.

I wonder if GG fired their artists? Because the PS4 KZ looks so generic compared to that.

This is Helgan though. A grim place. Not a city like in the new trailer. It's of no use to make a prosperous City in great weather look like Helgan.

Having said that, i do hope They also have those really atmospheric moments like in Killzone 2. I hope they return to Helgan and i hope it's dark and gritty.

Deep Down looked amazing but I want evidence that wasn't pre-rendered.

Everything else was meh. Honestly, if somebody told me KZ3 was on PS3 I wouldn't have blinked an eye.

I know these are launch titles, but the leap here is nowhere near the leap we saw at launch of the first HD consoles.

lol, i'm more than impressed.

This looks awful, why do I keep seeing it posted? How does his gun remain pointed at the exact center of the screen even as the heli-thing he's tethered to is banking? The rope and the player character aren't dangling in a realistic manner either (it's basically just sitting there like the rope is a stiff pole). And on top of that, it's a linear, on rails scripted sequence, which makes it look like literally every other shooter released this generation.

KZ was not that impressive.
Looked like KZ3 with slightly better graphics and a vastly improved scope (ie. huge city scape), but that's about it. I re-watched the stream and turned it off mid-way because it was boring. If you want to innovate somewhere, start by making your game different than all its previous iterations.

Capcom's new game, if it was in-game, was what wow'ed me. Both the animation and graphics were incredible, and the way things interacted with each other (ie. guy slicing the dragon across the face) looked TOO scripted, making me think this was a bullshot trailer.

Drive club? You needed to put that much attention into your cars? Really...

As far as I'm concerned, Crysis 1 with a few mods looks and feels better than sex. We've hit close-to photo realism and honestly no one cares about graphics any more. Give us better physics, better animation, more interesting worlds to explore, and memorable stories, rather than spending too much time on HDfying textures or getting carbon fibres to run a certain direction.

Will likely get PS4 at or soon after launch, too many good exclusive studios and seems much more future proof than the x720 rumoured specs.

I mentioned this in the Deep Down thread but IMO the big leaps next gen compared to this would have to be in interaction between objects and fluid animations, like the once seen in the Deep Down tech trailer. If the developers can implement that amount of detail into the games I'm sure most people will be quite impressed. It's not about polygons and shades anymore, it's about interaction and animation.

Theres a leap...not some crazy huge one but I can see it. For me its more of "does the leap justify the cost to play next gen?". With what was shown, for me thats a no. BUT the potential and ideas outside of the visuals do get me excited. Sony brought some really great ideas and tech outside of the graphic area. But again, even though I like what the new areas offer I just dont know if they can cost justify it.

Might wanna check those eyes then.

I really think you all are overstating the jump from last gen to current gen launch. I can't really find better, namely full res pics because of the work filter but still.
So those PS4 games look like high-end PCs from 2 years ago?
Well Crysis 3 hasn't come out yet so...

Nintendo faithful damage controlling.

Onus is on Capcom to prove Deep Down is an actual game, but stuff shown last night is orders of magnitude beyond current gen. Scale, lighting, animation, effects. All have gone up big-time. When Naughty Dog and Santa Monica flex their butt muscles, eyes will melt.

Like everyone else has been saying. Launch Titles.

But even so, i was blown away by the technology that was on offer. The games look amazing.

Seriously man, go get your eyes checked. Those games looked freakin CG and they dont provide a substantial leap? Diminishing returns? This gens' graphics are ugly and arent nowhere near PS4's level of quality.

I'm not seeing what most of you see at all (or dont see, I guess...)

The KZ demo were he was being dragged about by the airship was pretty impressive IMO, massive draw distance and loads of objects, there was clearly a jump.

I think people were expecting the same visual impact that PS2 > PS3 was and thats not guna happen.

Yeah, I didn't see as big a difference as I expected. Definitely nothing better than what I've seen outta pc games.

I'm in a wait and see mode right now. Definitely won't buy at launch. Will wait for a price drop. After the Wii u debacle its not worth it to me to fork out at launch. I was disappointed when I bought the ps3 at launch too.

Yep, launch titles. I wasn't extremely impressed with anything for the 360 or PS3 at first, either (except maybe Fight Night Rd 3).

That "Deep Down" game looked pretty freakin' awesome, though.

Actually, pretty sure it's the other way around. General consensus seems to be that nothing that is known to be gameplay footage looks remarkably better.

Yea these graphics we are seeing are like a high tier PC, and that's basically what the PS4 is anyway so makes sense.
