Pachter was right about PS4 graphics

ibjxCz37mFXzrX.gif

I need to see some hands-on stuff first. Today felt like fluff play this. Now.

If this was a Zelda remake and that was Link fighting the dragon in the first dungeon that would be amazing. I know this is a little off topic but this is why Nintendo fails. If we had a Zelda game that looked like this.....can you imagine?

Wait, now Playstation fans know that launch games don't look very impressive and needs time to really show off the system?

I can't even follow what people are talking about in this thread anymore.

Anybody who saw yesterday's presentation that thinks the graphical capabilities of the PS4 are lack needs to get their vision checked. We know what modern PCs, the PS3, and the 360 can put out so, why would anybody think that Patcher was right or that that PS4 isn't a beast of a system? We don't even know what the plastic around the parts is going to be shaped like yet!

The amount of doomsdaying for a system that hasn't been released yet and is technically above the vast majority of expectations is absolutely unbelievable.

Let's see when they'll watch the game running on a big hdtv in their local store then.

let's see indeed

let's also see what difference they see between ps3 and ps4, or even XBox 3 and PS4 and how do they decide to spend their money

Looks like its time to go see your optometrist.

no need. I have 20/20 vision

and there will be plenty of like me who will not be impressed by the "visual leap" shown on the PS4, particularly those who have played PC games

there will also be those like you. who through a number of factors (low standards, brand loyalty etc) are wowed by things like the new killzone game

how many of them decide to bite on this console remains to be seen

Killzone 4 was perfectly impressive.

However, despite frequent claims that diminishing returns aren't real, and every new generation will look 1000 times better than the last... diminishing returns are real.

The 7th generation of game consoles invoked modern PC style technology. Combined with maturation of development tools and graphical techniques, the result is pretty obvious: 3D games reached sufficient quality so that 3D graphics look "good enough".

You can add better textures, more physics, larger scale, more lens flare and more dirt on the camera. But generally speaking, nothing is going to "wow" people like the 360 and PS3 generation did - going from still-crude 3D visual technology to sufficiently advanced textures and shader effects, good normal mapping, good lighting, and so on.

From here on out the game is not about graphics. Graphics will steadily evolve and improve. But Sony focused a great deal on everything PS4 offers besides graphics, because that's what matters next. Connectivity, services, and new ways of playing games - something like the instant system suspend and resume will have a bigger impact on the way people play games than better graphics. Not to mention gameplay broadcasting, in-line video recording, etc, etc.

You don't have to want Zelda to be something it isn't. That's why other games exist, like Dark Souls, this one, and whatever else that is a different style of fantasy.

Sorry, I've just never understood the desire to have all games be remade in the image of the latest cool trend. Right now it's super gritty dark western fantasy where the main character desperately struggles to survive in grim dungeons. That's cool, but not every game has to remake itself in that image.

I honestly think Sony has hit this one out of the park. With the limited information I have now regarding the PS4 Sony has again managed to wet my appetite for a gaming console. Downloading while playing, watching others play, pausing anywhere I want to, no load times, ability to capture game play videos easily, and the graphics were leaps above where the PS3 is currently.

Pachter and 'right' shouldn't be used together in any sentences, ever.

PC Gaming has nothing even close to stuff like Capcom's Deep Down footage.

We haven't seen that game in real gameplay yet.

Sure, that was supposedly in engine footage, but with all of these next gen games I want to see what the game is going to look like with a guy handling a controller with normal camera controls, not what is basically a cutscene with the camera swooping around.

Yep, just using in-game assets in very dark environment with only 3 characters and such. . . I'm not holding my breath games will end up like that when playing "normally".

I somewhat agree with OP. The graphics were technically amazing, but there was nothing there that the current generation of consoles couldn't give the general gist of. The same can not be said of the leap from previous generation to current generation of hardware, and even less so with regards to the leap from PSX-era to PS2-era. However, I don't think we can ever expect a graphical leap between adjacent generations of that magnitude again. Diminishing returns, and all that.

Looks leagues better than anything on the PS3.

I'm not disappointed in the slightest. And what we saw were just launch titles running via streams. 2-3 years from now will blow our minds.

Again, this.......

While PS3 graphics are great, just look at all the details in the Killzone video... Holy crap, everything is in motion.... Huge leap in graphical fidelity....

I agree. We are getting to the point where most 3D games will look visually 'good'. There is only so much that can be done.

Pretty much nailed my thoughts as well. Natrual evolution.

What a completely disrespectful way to shrug off everybody who was impressed. We truly are at the beginning of the next gen of consoles.

Nailed it. Makes my previous post perfectly superfluous.

Nop nop and nop.
I'm so sick of hearing that... Do you remember the reactions after the first 360 games were showed ? Nobody was wowed. It was all about box guy and the pdz guy. I'm pretty certain the wow factor will be there at launch and probably in full force like never one year later with other first party offering.

For once, I'd have to agree with the guy.

The visuals, while definitely pretty, did not feel like a substantial leap over PS3.

Am I the only one that feels like we're truly getting diminishing returns?

I am sorry... But I disagree with both him and you.

From what I saw of Killzone it looked substantially better then PS3 and ALOT better then even the CGI of Killzone 2 that was shown many E3's ago.

I have a high end pc and other then MAYBE Crysis 3 I havent seen a game with the kind of fidelity that Killzone was using on the PS4.

All of the assets on the PS4 is a major improvement over pc ports and PS3 games i.e textures, polygons on characters... dat explosions and fire :o .

If you feel its not much difference between PS3 and PS4 then maybe its time to retire from gaming?

Did you just equate the joy of playing games to how visually impressive they are?

I thought Killzone looked great as well as Deep Down.

until we see the final games though im going to treat it as us being at about this point

compared to even the final game, with the potential for the amazing jump that 2 was just about 3 year after that.

What I find amusing is that barely anyone is throwing around gifs with actual 'proper' gameplay, forget the on rails crap, and pans of a city scape where the back ground is blatantly rendered, when you actually look at the proper in game footage it's really not that impressive to me but then I've been playing mainly PC games over these last two years, that being said though I do remember being blown away with the 360 launch titles.

Eh, it came out wrong. I meant to say if one feels there isn't much difference between the PS3 and PS4 then I guess dont buy the PS4?

I dont see how one could say there isnt a difference though. I just doesn't compute. I could get someone saying console ports on the PC isnt a huge difference but the assets in the PS4 games like Killzone are a huge jump up in all accounts.

Imagine how good KZ will look from 10ft away on a 47inch plasma running at 60fps and HD resolution (720/1080..doesnt matter in comfy couch gaming as much as we gaffers like to claim).

These games are not meant to be watched from 12in away on a monitor.

What? You can't tell the difference? You must be blind.
Are you saying that the KZ demo where we see the ship flying over the city is not a big leap? IMO is step as big as PS2->PS3.

So by "rendered" you mean pre-rendered i guess.

But no sorry.

At some point this bullshit is almost bannable trolling honestly. I've been reading lies and craps all the day..
And "on rail" isn't gameplay now ? This is the new rule ?

Retail game is not going to look half as good as that.

Quote me when the game comes out.

This, all the day i swear.. Just trolling.. It's almost a new meme already. Every ps4 game ever will be cgi bullshit now.

I've played everything including Crysis 3 on a pretty capable PC and my jaw was on the floor.

Compare Perfect Dark Zero to Uncharted 3, and then apply the same logic to the Killzone demo. Guerilla are very talented with coding to the metal, but I doubt they've managed to get everything out of the system. Consider the crunched launch development schedule and the uncertainty of what visuals they can achieve, alongside the state of flux the target hardware is in until it gets finalized.

Killzone is 30fps.

Also you know it's the dawn of a new generation, when ever other begins with "just imagine guise!"

Blah blah speculation.

I'm glad you can predict what games a year from now on a new console you've never seen will look like though.

Surprised you haven't started your own hype train a year in advance already.

We will never have a leap like we did all the way up to the 360 era. Also, I'm kind of worried about how much of this was Killzone 2-style bullshots. While a lot of it was clearly in-engine, that means nothing compared to a playable game with functional AI, unscripted animations, and so on. What resolution will the final games run at? What kind of performance are we expecting?

In the same sentence you say the leap is not enough and what they showed is too beautiful to be real. Nice.

That's not particularly good to be honest.

I can see further down the testing chart than you, with my glasses on.

I can see all of it pretty clearly

Damn, my vision must be better than i thought. no wonder i don't need glasses

At some point this bullshit is almost bannable trolling honestly. I've been reading lies and craps all the day..
And "on rail" isn't gameplay now ? This is the new rule ?

well not really, it's not exactly demanding or action packed. you're essentially watching the world go by

now the gameplay itself, the bit where the guy was shooting, that was the main event. that's the bit that did not impress at all

I've played everything including Crysis 3 on a pretty capable PC and my jaw was on the floor.

really? the capcom game looked pretty fantastic (although it didn't look like gameplay footage)

but the other stuff looked wank. the killzone gameplay did not impress me at all

That said, we're talking about an early Watchdogs and Killzone here. Remember the jump the 2nd game made from its initial reveal.

I suspect the final release of KZ will look much better than even C3.

Killzone 4 honestly looked great to me.

It looked even that much better when I got to see it in HD after the stream was over.

Honestly, I'm just lovin' some of the responses. It's hilarious.

holy shit, hilarious :lol

I can, and it wouldn't be a Zelda game.

I would hate to have a Zelda game that looked like that. For Zelda, give me a highly-stylized cartoon-ish look any day over this.

I'm not saying it looks bad, I just don't think it would fit Zelda at all.
