Is playing on PC not an option? If you were to get a key, do your characters transfer over too or no?
Cross progression minus mtx works from what I've heard. Yeah PC was definitely an option, I picked ps5 for ease of use to play couch co-op with my son, didn't know we could just connect two controllers on PC and play there as well.

So, this is my question that hasn't been answered yet:

Is an item like that better than a blue item (magic item?) that requires level 15 and 20 INT?

Or are base defense stats all the same and it just about the modifiers?

I just can’t beat the first act final boss as my monk lol. I have a decent weapon and three yellow bits of gear. Checked and my spec and abilities are on point. I run out of flasks for his last 25% hp. Even ground a couple of extra levels but still couldn’t. More tries tomorrow!

I am noob here and play warrior. I don't know if this help but anyway.

Maybe spend a bit of point to spec Health regen for now and respect later. Also, some equipments with health regen also helps.

Also, it is harder than other ARPGs from the jump. It expects you to use that dodge and often.

But, the game is also literally tempting you to break its mechanics with custom skill builds. Like Wall of Flames + Enraged Spirits is kind of awesome. Slap on corrosive onto the spirits and have them explode at death. Spam away.

Also the +Movement speed is my sought after stat. It's clutch.

Im in exactly the same boat. Messed around with my build last night but made it worse lol. Just messed around for an hour again and think i figured it out and will try again later.

Yeah I tried Washington, east coast Canada and auto. The game pauses every seconds or so and I get disconnects
Have you correctly saved the server location change?

There was another user in this thread with the same problem. He eventually noticed that he changed the server several times, but never saved it correctly.

I doubt it's a PS5 problem. I'm on base PS5, too and network performance is good so far.

I picked the right server before I created a character and saved it. Never had a problem.

I'm definetly gonna get the EA on PC too since I want to try WASD movement.

Yep, now pauses every 2-3 seconds. I'm fucked for tonight. Hopefully they fix it soon
Its the severs i think. Im on PC and it was the same for me last night. Lots of other people getting the same by the looks of things. They hit a new CCU high so probably that. Just tried it now and it was miles better.

I saw similar posts on Reddit, but thanks to a very kind sound whom I thanked personally in private (don't know if wants to be named in this thread), I now can play on the two platforms (PC and PS5) so I'll go PC only for myself now.

Can't tell since I'm not there yet, but my brother has binge-played it every day for 12 hours this weekend and he says you need to buy gear from vendors and upgrade it to magic items with the upgrade items that get dropped. The vendor items change with every level so you want to check on them every time you level up.

Is there a vendor for body armor? Or just weapons?

Keep an eye out for the flasks that regenerate charges. They are hands down the best flask mod. Try to craft them if you can't find them.

higher level items will be higher tier rolls on the stats.

both. and a gamble vendor too. separate vendors each for weapons, armor, gamble.

Can't tell. I haven't used this approach yet since I got through everything just fine.

I'm super happy with the difficulty so far.

But I was one of those players who fell asleep during D4. No kidding. It was just braindead facerolling.

PoE2 gives me adrenaline kicks when I enter a boss fight. You need a strategy for character development and tactic for using it on different bosses. Ignore the boss mechanics? Get rekt.

This is exactly how gaming should be in my opinion.

The input delay is absolutely terrible on PS5. I should have went with PC, but I'll just wait for the full version to come out before I switch at this point.

Despite that, I am mostly enjoying it, just getting to grips with the combat. I probably should not have started with Monk though.
On login choose the nearest server to you. Fixed input delay for me.

Did this before I even created a character and it's still there for me. I play online shooters most days and never have any issues with my connection while playing those. You would think a slower ARPG like this shouldn't have any issue, especially when you are the only person in an area. I remember the first game having something similar but you could at least change the networking mode from lockstep or whatever it was called and the input delay would be gone. Can't find such a setting in this one.

Yea I tried that on day one as well but I was in couch co-op mode at the time. Exhausted the entire options menu trying to find something that would make a difference and the delay is still there. Will try the dead zone thing again while solo but I can't see it making a difference.

Cool, thnx. Wasn't really sure.

I need to pay more attention then. Thought there only were melee and ranged weapon vendors. Lol

Think I'm stuck due to being undergeared, so might have to check out all the vendors. And then grind a bit to upgrade my gear. By then I should be overleveled for that werewolf boss at Ogham Manor.

Spoilers below just so people who want to go in blind can.

More cold resist. I did it on a character that had about 16% cold resist and the ice attacks hit like a truck. I managed to find lots of the cold resist runes so I think the aim would be to find some socketed gear and put the cold resist runes into it to give you the resists you need.

Seems a lot like the poe1 end of act 1 fight where cold resist makes a huge difference. The difference is here you need to use runes to get it rather than sapphire rings.

This is my shopping strategy.

Every level, look at the vendor for what they have in stock.

Check for rares.

Check for magic weapons that have a high tier and high roll of +damage or +skills. Buy them and use crafting orbs to hopefully craft an upgrade.

Check for magic weapons with any decent modifiers but has sockets, and try to craft a magic weapon with +damage or +skills.

The problem is, gold doesn't drop either. You barely get any gold unless you sell magic or rare, which again, this gear rarely drops and you cripple your ability to craft by selling them instead of disenchanting them. I can't even afford to shop every level.

So here is my thoughts on the game so far. Mind you this is coming from someone who has played ALL the ARPGs, and I haven't read anyone else's take on the game or watched impressions/reviews.

Pros:
Game looks amazing
Animations are great
Enemy variety top notch
Campaign is a massive upgrade from PoE1 in story telling
Easier to understand and manage getting into compared to PoE1
EPIC boss fights
Wonderful soundtrack (give this person a raise!)

Negatives:
-Base move speed is abysmal. In D2 I LOVE when I get Stealth at level 17. All my movement issues disappear rest of game. I wish more games would understand players do not want to move slow in these games.
-Lack of movement abilities. So shit base walk even with +20% move speed boots, and now teleports or blinks or mounts, etc is terrible.
-Add to this that maps are about 2x the size they should be. If they want to keep this move speed then they need to cut the size of maps.
-Dying and enemies all respawn is a massive chore. Get rid of this. It makes checkpoint to where you died a slog and a half.
-It is obnoxiously hard to get resistances.
-Loot currently sucks. It feels like a turd and a half to even get yellows to drop, and 99% of the time I'm just getting shit I can't use. Solution is increase drop rate of exalted, alchemy, and regal orbs.
-Collision issues galore.
-Controller is a massive step up from PoE1, but still a 1/10th viable compared to D4 or hell even D2 on pad. Rare in front of me, right stick told to look at him, shoot arrow, my character whips a 180 to shoot at a bone prison 20 miles away behind me... Or just plain missing enemies point blank.
-To boot, can we get with 2024 and make it insta swap between keyboard/mouse and controller on the fly in game without exiting to main menu? Come the fuck on GGG. This shit was not excusable in PoE1, so why is it here in PoE2?!
-Sorceress feels like dog shit. The tree feels more like a Witch minion tree than Sorc buff tree. So spread out for anything useful. Lightning feels doo doo.
-Power spikes feel very hard to hit. Just when you feel you are doing enough damage, you die too easy, when you build up survivability you no longer kill at a decent pace. This is back from the loot issue, and trees issues.
-Gold respec is a joke. May as well take it out. It is not fesible to respec. What is GGG so afraid of? Just give us 3 free respecs up to level 30, and 2 up to level 50. After that no more respecs you should be locked in. I personally would just love infinite respecs up to level 35-50 so I can fine tune and experiment. I bricked my Sorc because of the gold cost to respec and just rerolled.
-The dodge roll is slow, has long cool downs, and feels like it isnt reliable at all.
-I love Diablo 2. This game is clearly inspired by Diablo 2 heavily... but it's borderline too much. Act1-3 is a copy pasta of D2. It felt initially like "nods" to then being borderline uninspired by just copying everything from D2. Hooded one is deckard cain, Act 1 is tristram, Act 2 is the desert, act 3 is the swamp/jungle... I expected more of the unique world of PoE1.
-Lastly, I am not a fan of classes like Monk where in order to get actual damage going I have to do "mini quests" in combat. 4 regular melee attacks, to then be able to summon bell, and you gotta do a palm strike on a guy with a blue glow above his head to build up 3 orbs around me, to then be able to do a electric ground pound that shoots out in multiple tree of damage. Bro ... let me spam moves with less thought.

Yes that is a LOT of negatives, but it's early access. As it stands the game is still better than most ARPGs after years of polishing. My only concern is all of the above isn't looked at.

Game is a 8/10, and if the above gets addressed in 6-12 months then we have a 10/10 on our hands.

I guess you just have to try and overlevel to push through it, as I'm melting every other boss in act 1

It's the ice stage of the fight that's getting me, I just can't avoid the attacks

I think I agree with most of that.

After a bit more play time last night my main gripes are the loot needs sorting and upgrade mats need to drop more, same with gold. Not a big issue and still having a blast.

The main worry, for me is. I'm not sure if running this campaign every season might turn into a chore, its big as is, with another 3 acts on top it might be a bit much. I suppose as people get more familiar with the game things will get smoother. But that's miles away yet, we'll see.

Also they REALLY need to fix whatever is causing the huge amount slowdown on the PS5 version, playing as the witch minion build the game is becoming unplayable with the amount of stuff that's going on on the screen, and turning all the graphics settings to ultra performance makes no different whatsoever

I'm in the exact same boat as you.

As a necromancer, I hoped that those arsonist minions would make a difference, but they barely do. Even got em at lvl 5.

I'm also going to grind and overlevel it. Seems like the best way for this boss. As a witch/necromancer at least.

Bit of background. I'm an old timey PoE player from way back (closed beta in 2013). Have been waiting on this launch since the Exilecon reveal (about 5 years).

Was a little worried about the mentions of "souls-like gameplay" from the game directors as I'm not a big fan of souls-like games (although I'll play proper hardcore you die you restart the entire game traditional rogue-likes).

Launch was a little rough, server issues meant I only got an hour or so on Friday night, but I'd organised a free Sat/Sun just in case it was as good as I hoped.

My time in game over the weekend is 20+ hours.

My son has a bit more than me, 28 hours (I've never seen him do his homework so quickly as he did on Friday night while steam was decrypting the pre-loaded files).

After all the waiting and the anxiety if this game would be for me, I'm totally blown away. Like BG3, PoE2 feels like a once in a lifetime game, a generation defining moment when someone mixes up two distinct genres in just the right proportion to make something new.

Minor gripes are that minions are too weak compared to melee, (no stun), respec costs a little too much, need a few more orb drops to be able to craft gear as you go. But the main balance seems to be almost bang-on point. Some bosses need a little tweak, some traps are broken in trials etc - all early access type bugs (and GGG get raise spectre in game asap please!)

Overall a triumph.

You cannot rush into bosses early - you should fully explore all the zones instead of poe-style blast straight to the exit. I did act 1 boss as a witch at lvl 16. I missed raging spirits which makes a minion build actually good! Any class that can freeze/build up stun has a much easier time on that act 1 boss. I tried it (and failed) many times, on my successful run I had to go through 4 fog phases. My son playing monk just froze the boss and killed it before a single fog phase - there are definitely easier classes/builds than others!!

I hate my muscle memory, had to switch potions to diablo style on controller, it was too awkward on the pad... As soon as I'll get home gonna message for the gaf guild... I see myself loosing many many hours on this new addiction....

Oh and if you get your ass handed to you try messing around the build, here build planning really goes a long way...

Thnx for the heads-up. I don't have raging spirits yet. Guess that will be my main objective for now.

Having the potions bound to left on the dpad is a little counter productive tbh, I switched it to L1 like in diablo 4, and it's made it much easier

Having to take your finger off the movement stick to heal just causes issues

Best advice I can give for PoE is to look up builds or gameplay from people on Twitch/YouTube. Mobalytics is a good website to use as well. For Witch I know the two best leveling methods is getting SRS (summon raging spirits, a spirit gem rewarded from a Act 1 quest) to use with Firewall, or Contagion/Essence Drain.
