Best advice I can give for PoE is to look up builds or gameplay from people on Twitch/YouTube. Mobalytics is a good website to use as well. For Witch I know the two best leveling methods is getting SRS (summon raging spirits, a spirit gem rewarded from a Act 1 quest) to use with Firewall, or Contagion/Essence Drain.
Contagion/Essence Drain are chaos damage right?

I'm actually not going with fire/chaos damage.

Man I love playing this on the PS5 but the CPU bottleneck on the endgame will be real, I'll be changing to the PC to play with 3D Cache, anyone knows if I buy a key on the PC I can access my PS characters?

This just seems a bit over the top for me though tbh, you should be able to get through the campaign without needing to look up build guides and restarting because you've specced into the wrong skills

I'm using contagion and essence drain for my witch and I'm still struggling to beat the second phase of the act 1 boss

I can give them a pass for the time being due to it being in early access, and I can probably just power through it if i over level, but this is going to put casual players off big time if they can't progress on their own without looking up guides

That’s correct, there might be other good builds but I’m playing a Sorceress right now so can’t say for sure.

Yep, the game is a bit overturned at the moment. Looking up guides is inevitable usually, as PoE is so incredibly deep when it comes to build variety and endgame. Needing it to just get past Act 1 is a bit much though.

This puts me off these games massively. I typically build my characters based on how much fun I'll have with certain skills rather than 'the meta' or min/max is. I'm really tempted to grab this, but am holding off for a bit until the honeymoon phase is over to see what people really think of the game.

You can always mess with nodes and see the effects, usually reading a guide is useful not for copying straight off it but for seeing the idea behind the node selection and the interactions. Sometimes playing with online tools help comprehension of nodes and help planning your build.

I don't really like blindly following someone else guide but usually help to get an idea.

I don't follow any guide, I take passive skills that complete the way I like to play, ie I found the energy shield was too slow to recharge on my monk: I took Mystic Stance and now it's fine for me (I reseted some nodes I found useless for a few gold).

By act 2 I already unlocked every monk skills (up to lvl 5) and I can't slot everything but I tested everyone of them in combat to see which I liked to use/which did best dps with my stuff then upgraded those with support gem/levels.

So here is my thoughts on the game so far. Mind you this is coming from someone who has played ALL the ARPGs, and I haven't read anyone else's take on the game or watched impressions/reviews.

Pros:
Game looks amazing
Animations are great
Enemy variety top notch
Campaign is a massive upgrade from PoE1 in story telling
Easier to understand and manage getting into compared to PoE1
EPIC boss fights
Wonderful soundtrack (give this person a raise!)

Negatives:
-Base move speed is abysmal. In D2 I LOVE when I get Stealth at level 17. All my movement issues disappear rest of game. I wish more games would understand players do not want to move slow in these games.
-Lack of movement abilities. So shit base walk even with +20% move speed boots, and now teleports or blinks or mounts, etc is terrible.
-Add to this that maps are about 2x the size they should be. If they want to keep this move speed then they need to cut the size of maps.
-Dying and enemies all respawn is a massive chore. Get rid of this. It makes checkpoint to where you died a slog and a half.
-It is obnoxiously hard to get resistances.
-Loot currently sucks. It feels like a turd and a half to even get yellows to drop, and 99% of the time I'm just getting shit I can't use. Solution is increase drop rate of exalted, alchemy, and regal orbs.
-Collision issues galore.
-Controller is a massive step up from PoE1, but still a 1/10th viable compared to D4 or hell even D2 on pad. Rare in front of me, right stick told to look at him, shoot arrow, my character whips a 180 to shoot at a bone prison 20 miles away behind me... Or just plain missing enemies point blank.
-To boot, can we get with 2024 and make it insta swap between keyboard/mouse and controller on the fly in game without exiting to main menu? Come the fuck on GGG. This shit was not excusable in PoE1, so why is it here in PoE2?!
-Sorceress feels like dog shit. The tree feels more like a Witch minion tree than Sorc buff tree. So spread out for anything useful. Lightning feels doo doo.
-Power spikes feel very hard to hit. Just when you feel you are doing enough damage, you die too easy, when you build up survivability you no longer kill at a decent pace. This is back from the loot issue, and trees issues.
-Gold respec is a joke. May as well take it out. It is not fesible to respec. What is GGG so afraid of? Just give us 3 free respecs up to level 30, and 2 up to level 50. After that no more respecs you should be locked in. I personally would just love infinite respecs up to level 35-50 so I can fine tune and experiment. I bricked my Sorc because of the gold cost to respec and just rerolled.
-The dodge roll is slow, has long cool downs, and feels like it isnt reliable at all.
-I love Diablo 2. This game is clearly inspired by Diablo 2 heavily... but it's borderline too much. Act1-3 is a copy pasta of D2. It felt initially like "nods" to then being borderline uninspired by just copying everything from D2. Hooded one is deckard cain, Act 1 is tristram, Act 2 is the desert, act 3 is the swamp/jungle... I expected more of the unique world of PoE1.
-Lastly, I am not a fan of classes like Monk where in order to get actual damage going I have to do "mini quests" in combat. 4 regular melee attacks, to then be able to summon bell, and you gotta do a palm strike on a guy with a blue glow above his head to build up 3 orbs around me, to then be able to do a electric ground pound that shoots out in multiple tree of damage. Bro ... let me spam moves with less thought.

Yes that is a LOT of negatives, but it's early access. As it stands the game is still better than most ARPGs after years of polishing. My only concern is all of the above isn't looked at.

Game is a 8/10, and if the above gets addressed in 6-12 months then we have a 10/10 on our hands.

Having spent some decent time on the game, I definitely agree with some of the takes shared here:

From act 2 onwards the zones feel too large with too many 'nothing corners', which can make them feel like a slog at times. Besides resizing, this could, in part, be remedied by adding more (dynamic) events as well as more meaningful treasure (instances), which I think D4 did quite well. In PoE 2 I actually found 1 (of 2 in total so far) cellar instance that literally was 'already looted'. What's even the point of that? You should be rewarded more for exploring every nook & cranny, not receive a kick in the nuts.

Not a fan of the dying and respawning mobs either. It feels bad not being able to kill the rare elite that killed you, which also takes away a chance at better quality loot right in front of your eyes.

As for loot: overall, I really like the more sober approach over piñata loot explosions, with sorting/filtering slog that comes with it, but the current state of drops in PoE 2 could definitely be turned up a notch or two.
Besides more orb drops, I do think they could improve the gear dropped by bosses and yellow treasure chests, which are quite rare. It's weird that yellow doesn't drop any yellow.

As for my experience playing a warrior (that actively blocks a lot):
Combat works for the most part, but I've also ran into issues with hit detection or hit boxes. Many times I should've clearly hit, when it just didn't register. This could also have to do with evasion, which isn't very clear to me (evasion would make sense of a mob or two evaded, but not a whole group). I'm close to taking the passive that makes hits un-evadable, so I'll see that makes a big difference.

Usually on bosses I'm hugging them, actively blocking and spamming attacks, with the occasional dodge roll. On the giant bosses I feel it's a bit silly and frustrating how I'm constantly being hindered by the big arms and bodies with collision, that also flail around, shoving me around like a rag doll and not allowing me to run/dodge roll where I want to. It makes me feel like I'm losing control a bit too much.

Man I love playing this on the PS5 but the CPU bottleneck on the endgame will be real, I'll be changing to the PC to play with 3D Cache, anyone knows if I buy a key on the PC I can access my PS characters?
Pretty sure I read it's going to have cross progression so should be able to. Not sure about in early access, but definitely at full release.

The problem is, gold doesn't drop either. You barely get any gold unless you sell magic or rare, which again, this gear rarely drops and you cripple your ability to craft by selling them instead of disenchanting them. I can't even afford to shop every level.

The majority of the gold you make in the early game is through selling stuff. Pick up and sell all the magic items that you don't need. You don't need to disenchant that many magic items.

Using rings and runes, it's not that bad to up your resists.

The NPC vendors update their wares every time you gain a level. They often have rares.

Guild stash: What am I doing wrong? ELI5 pls :D On console/pad I open it up and instead of being able to tab between them I seem to be in edit mode moving them around with the bumpers, so the only way to see them all seems to be shift them around and go back in (which is obviously going to annoy everyone else if I leave it in a mess when I'm done). I could deal with that when there was just 2 tabs but now there's 4 and maybe more that's going to get messy.

I know it's a Beta, but it seems like some of the controller/console player stuff is an afterthought right now, not much but a few things here and there don't work well/nicely. Another example is in the trial - I had to disable the attack set to X (that was also set to be the main contextual interact button) in order to be able to interact with the crystals and not fire stuff off at any random scrote enemy in a 50 mile radius, m/kb players just click them and it works.

I have no idea what Summon Raging Spirits is and don't recall seeing it. I got through act 1 on Witch without too much issue. Did take a few tries on a few of the bosses but I'm not finding the game particularly punishing. There's a checkpoint next to just about any difficult encounter. I've been revealing the entire maps before moving onto the next thing. I think the last area in act 1 was level 15 and I was level 17 when I cleared it. I was actually getting a bit confused, I don't think I ate my first death until the uhhh... tree fort area... where I ran into a bit of a wall and got overwhelmed.

At that point I did use contagion and essence drain... seemed pretty obvious they were meant to be combo'd from the descriptions. I do have some useless junk cluttering up my skills right now. It actually took embarrassingly long for me to equip anything beyond the first two skills they tutorialed and really only started messing with stuff once I wasn't doing enough damage to kill things.

I'm a little worried about respecing in the future. The prices didn't seem so bad but then it looks like they went up as I leveled. The leveling tree is massive and I really don't know enough about the game at the moment. I made my way to some chaos damage boosts to buff the aforementioned combo.

Act 1 boss... I died a number of times but eventually did enough damage to him to where he didn't add a fog cycle to his uhhh... airstrikes I guess? That killed me a few times on his last sliver of health. It seems like the adds that spawn during the fog phase didn't really leave corpses... or they expired very quickly. I couldn't use my Summon Zombies skill but doing some AoE and then spamming the Unearth attack got me some of those scorpion minions and turned the tide a little. And at the start and during phase changes I'd charge up Ember Fusillade for a little burst damage.

Once I cleared it I went and created a monk character and immediately got rekt in the first section by some laser crabs I didn't even remember as I crossed a bridge (they cross-fired me in an instant, pretty funny). I almost think that the first character they made it easier but that probably doesn't make sense. I just probably didn't need to do anything because the minions were good enough at least for that.

Anyway I got rekt as the monk on the first optional boss as well, though I don't think I fought that right away as I found the mudhole or whatever first on my Witch. Once I got a couple of levels and items it wasn't that terrible but I eventually knocked that out. I'll probably go back to my Witch in Act 2 next time I played, I just wanted to get an idea of how the game works with multiple characters. Shared gold, shared stash, etc... as I'm new to the genre. I kind of wish I hadn't indiscriminately nuked all the drops that didn't seem relevant to my Witch. There was some decent stuff that could be used to get my alts going a little smoother than my poor monk.

Did dig into the options and found where I could make the mouse cursor bigger and more colorful... aand lock it to the main screen. Should be good quality of life improvements for Act 2. I lost track of my cursor a lot in Act 1. Decently busy visuals and it just kinda blends right in.

The default ability mappings for the WASD control seem pretty insane... I also don't get why the ctrl modifier only works for the keys and not for mouse clicks. I think I'll map the extra skills pretty much all to the mouse, wheel up, wheel down, and the 2 side buttons... My contagion/essence drain wombo combo is currently on F and Q... pretty awkward walking around with WASD and having those be my two main attacks.

One thing I haven't really figured out is the second weapon set you can equip... I just kind of put a staff on there with a fire or lighting spell... but the problem is my skill minions all disappear when I switch... I get that the one from my Bone Wand would but seems a little weird that the others also go away. I'm not sure what the requirement is.. maybe having any wand equipped let's me keep them? So is that the thing... I can only equip wands and scepters basically? It's kind of confusing that the weapons don't seem to be class restricted but if using it disables half my skills then what's the point?

And to that end I have some slot 1 and slot 2 passive skill points stacked up... 4 of each. I don't quite understand them but I don't want to use them and then have to pay big gold to respec. Can normal skill points chain off of them? Like I said, the skill tree is scary.

I also don't really understand what 'standard' league is and how it relates to the season. Each season you redo the campaign? And the entire skill tree? Is 'standard' like a rock that's always there and thus the most important and thus the most scary to mess up my skill tree? Or is it more like the noob mode where it doesn't actually matter that I'm completely fucking my skills?

Thnx for the heads-up. I don't have raging spirits yet. Guess that will be my main objective for now.
Key thing, you can get the spirit gem from Freythorn but I think you need to reset the zone to get another chance at the boss - see "PoE2 resetting zone" for how to do that for your platform, I think on PC it's ctrl click waypoint and select new instance (and I *think* this does give you another spirit gem - but not 100% sure on that). I had to wait until deep in act 2 to get a second spirit gem, but when I got raging spirits my build started to come together. Dunno how people knew to get this right away as it isn't exposed as a suggested gem for the witch

I don't think difficulty is the problem, but lack of gear. I hope they wont decrease the difficulty, but slightly increase the loot/gold/orbs drops, so people can gear from loot drops, gamba or crafting.

Check what spirit do you have when you switch weapons. Maybe second weapon doesn't have enough spirit to keep your minions alive.

Till now, 2 bosses push my buttons. The count (i beat him in like 10 tries) and Balbala in Act 2 (that mf have flicker strike :D )

Hmm, yeah, looks like my spirit comes pretty much from my Scepter so that makes sense. For some reason I thought there was a base minion that you get without spirit and spirit just leveled him up and made him stronger.

That was another recent UI tweak, enabling the HP/Mana/Spirit text numbers. Did that right before I logged off. Before that I had no clue what my spirit usage even was... it doesn't seem to list it in the skills tab. So I just clicked plus next to things until I couldn't click plus anymore.

You can see your sprit usage in the skill tabs (G), for each skill that use it.

Scepters grant you spirit, which is the main resource of your minions, so if weapon switch to a staff or something else, you're going to lose them. Don't bother with the weapon swap system at the point where you're at. Concentrate on finding scepters with +spirit. Contagion + Essence Drain is a great combo for Witch in the early game. If you didn't use your spirit gem yet, try Raging Spirits. If you already used your spirit gem, I have an spare level 7 one you can have but you will need to be level 26 to use it. Raging Spirits + Firewall is fun.

Trial of ascension is weird, it makes me play completely differently as you lose honour even when hit in shield, first try I went to the boss with 50 honour left without losing health once... you have to do a no hit run.

Is it normal to get one shot from the act 2 first boss? Kinda had fun to this point.
I think Rathbreaker is a tad overtuned - I got rekt first time, then took a beat went and rejigged my gear a little at the caravan (best town/hub idea ever) and then did him second time - key was to avoid the pinning spears attack

Yes it works. On the Path of Exile website, buy a supporter pack, then you will get an Early Acess key. Your friend redeems the key. Then your friend can get a Steam Key.

Thank you, but when I log in my mail inbox on PoE's website it says this:

The Early Access key which is redeemed on the Path of Exile website is different than the Steam Key you get that you redeem on Steam. Redeeming the EA key on the PoE website also gives you a Steam Key.

It should say this

This key can be redeemed on the Path of Exile website.

Ok, I've already got PoE 2 and EA available on my Steam library. When I click on your link I get the same message: ''This key is available to claim, click the button below to access your key. Maybe that's the key that I can share?

There is an unclaimed key here. That's the key you give to your friend. Then your friend logs in to the PoE website and redeems that key there.

When it comes to the act 1 boss, is there an element he's weakest to? I already have a lot of lightning damage on my bow, but I'm not sure if I want more, or I should go with a fire rune, or perhaps even a frost rune. Any suggestions?

Ripped my cold mage chronomancer at lvl 25-30 on HC fuck, had a crazy staff with +3 to cold spells, 60 spell damage, 15 cast speed, extra damage as fire, etc

Just got to Act 2 with my next project, a lightning Archmage with Mind over Matter and energy shield, it's quite weak early and will continue to be until later on, so i expect to RIP before i can make it work but we'll see D:

Also got a ranger at like lvl 12 but i'm getting stomped and forced to logout since i can't clear these rituals from act 1 fast enough... getting gear from my other run with the mage to equip this one.

Great game, some stuff is still a bit barebones, but knowing GGG and how fast they work, i expect this game will evolve a lot in just some months, as PoE 1 did.

Most of the negatives that people are bringing up I don't really agree.

Loot sucks? It's fine. The industry 'standard' is that vendors suck and mats should be saved for endgame. Now you actually have to use those mats on gear you pick up to ensure you are not lagging behind because some OP yellow or unique is no longer just around the corner. Also by ensuring that loot is not OP they actually sort of fixed the vendors, keep an eye on them and spend your gold.

Respawning sucks? Nah, it's a gatekeeping mechanic that tells you whether you need more loot, gear or are using your class efficiently. Every time I enter a new area I tend to die on the mobs. This Is how I farm. Eventually by the end of the map I'm not dying anymore, because I have more levels, got better drops or just have learned the new enemy patterns.

Also as a side note, the magma barrier on warrior is really cool. After you raise your shield, for 0.5 seconds you spray magma back on a successful block. They actually made the shield a successful interactive element! GGG you madlads!

He does frost attacks in his second phase, so i'm guessing he's strong to frost

Level 15 warrior and I seem to be able to do fine on mobs/bosses okay for now. I had a little difficulty dieing using 2h but since switching to board it has been just fine. I did get 3 useful legendaries though.

I think everything about the gameplay is damn near perfect

However, I really wish they invested more into story, characters and world building. Not building up the count/countess more in Act1 was a missed opportunity. Having a few in-engine cinematics wouldn't hurt either. Immersion is important man! It makes you care about what you are doing.

Act 2 seems fun, the mine map got a little grindy. Again, context, lore, purpose, these are important even if the game is all about "endgame", I think it would build a strong foundation to have a very fleshed out world and not just some generic ass dark fantasy.

Small gripe overall but would prevent this from being a 9+ for me if it just devolves into random quest givers and monster grind.

I seriously love this game. It's amazing how I just thought I was done with these types of games after playing Diablo 4 when all I needed was to play one that was done correctly. Been playing it all weekend and am hooked.

@ everyone in the guild - I just realized that upgrading our 2-slot skill gems is a waste. For example, if I have a level 5 lightning arrow, instead of upgrading it with a level 6 uncut skill gem, I could unequip the current level 5 lightning arrow, make a new level 6 lightning arrow skill with the uncut gem, then donate the level 5 skill to the guild stash.

I think if we do this, then we could build up a nice skill gem reserve for people who want to test things out.

The only time you don't want to do this if if you upgraded your existing skills with more support slots.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, just carry on as normal. I don't want to confuse you lol.
